Episode 10 – Job change, handover process and supervisors

About a week had passed since my discussion with Arisa and Sera. Ai nee was very pleased with my decision.

The annual salary, working hours, overtime pay, title, etc., were all very much better than my current company, and negotiations went easily.

I told my boss about my new job. He became very abusive and slandered me.

But I wasn’t that stressed. Because I was already leaving this company.

Now I am working with other employees on the handover.

“Ummm, this program is a little complicated and …… well, I think it would be more reliable if I actually tinkered with it. I think I’m about 10% through with this one.”
“……There is no way I, a new employee, can do this.”
“Takahashi-san, did you really have this much work on your hands, it took five of us to do this …….”

The new employee looked as if he was in the depths of despair, while the other staff members scrunched up their faces.

“Good luck with that. I’m someone who’s going to be leaving this company soon.”

I feel a little sorry for the two of them, but, well, if you’re going to hold a grudge, hold it against the company.

In the end, the two of them got fed up with the enormous amount of work they had to take over and complained to their boss that more people were needed. However, the boss scolded them, saying that it was impossible for them not to be able to do the work that I could do on my own, and he didn’t give them more people.

The day when I would be able to use up all my paid vacation days was approaching.

But the handover is not even half over yet, and the new employee and the other employees look like dead zombies.

Everyone else in the department seemed to sense what kind of atmosphere I was in, and no one would make eye contact with me. My problematic boss threw a tantrum at me at first and even threatened me to stay, but I had no reason to be here anymore, so I went through with it and he didn’t say anything.

Usually, this middle-aged boss has a tendency to say things like, “There are plenty of people who can replace you,” or “You should be thankful for the fact that you work for me.”

But today, he is much quieter.

I was about to teach them a few things when suddenly my boss came up to me and said

“Takahashi-kun, I need to talk to you.”
“?”

I thought he was going to fry me and get gun-shy as usual, but he said in a trembling tone of voice. So we came to the roof of the company.

“You’re going to use your paid vacation next week, right?”
“Yes.”
“…… I’m sorry to hear about your promotion to chief. I’m a generous guy, and there’s still a chance. What do you think? I’ve spoken to my superiors. If you stay, your chances for advancement will increase. It’s not a bad deal.”
“……”
“Even if you change jobs, it will all be the same. If that’s the case, it’s better to stay with one company for a long time. Well, you are still half a man, but if you work under me for a few years, you will be a full-fledged man. If that is the case, it is not impossible for you to become a general manager in the future. It all depends on my guidance and your motivation.”

That’s a great top down.

But I rather appreciate it.

Now I know for sure.

This guy is no good.

Well, I’ve known it for a long time.

“That ……Chief Yamashita.”
“What? You’re ready to change your mind instead of making stupid choices?”

“I’m going to be the new manager at my new job.”
“Eh?”
“I’m going to be the new manager”
“W-What?!”
“Do your best. Chief Yamashita. I’ll be rooting for you.”

I said that and stepped off the roof with light steps.

The handover is still not even 50% complete. I have prepared all the materials, but even though I have a rough idea of the flow, there are so many details that I am not sure if all of them are understandable.

Well, I am sure my boss, who is excellent, will be able to handle it.

I’m leaving this company after taking the proper steps, so I’m good to go. My boss had been ignoring me for a long time, thinking that the handover would be over in no time, that the two of us would be enough to take over the job.

But perhaps reality has set in.

Well, worst-case scenario, they should just read the materials I’ve prepared and do my best.

There are plenty of replacements for me in this company.

So I have to do my best to be useful to the three Kirie sisters at “Reganda” where I will work as a department head (although I am the only one in the department).

Because they need me.

I feel that if I am with them, this pain in my heart will ease a little. But I must not be lenient. They have deep wounds in their hearts. I have to be kind to them. But I don’t think it’s the same to be cautious.

Is it okay to be the same as before?

It’s easier for me.

I used to be with the three Kirie sisters after their mother passed away. My father was busy with his work, and I used to fill the hole in my heart with the three Kirie sisters.

Ai nee wrapped me in her arms like a mother, Arisa was always there for me, and Sera teased and spoiled me in a devilish manner. I was desperate to please all three of them.

Now I’m at work and all I can think about is the three Kirie sisters.

“Haa…… don’t want to work.”

I muttered to myself and moved to where the two dead fish eyes were.
