Chapter 58 – Childhood Friends, Again

When the final exams are over, Urushibara-san goes to the karate dojo after school, just as she said she would.

4.5 hours a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays because of the student council on Mondays and Thursdays.

As a result, on days when there were student council meetings she would go home with me, but on other days when there was karate, Urushibara-san would hurry home alone.

Also, the daily homemade lunches were prepared only on Monday and Thursday, the day of the student council meeting, so they were prepared on Tuesdays and Fridays as before, and I prepared my own lunches on other days. Incidentally, we continue to spend our lunch time together in the student council room. Recently, other members of the student council sometimes come and have lunch with us.

Urushibara-san was busy, but was still involved in the activities of the student council and seemed to be working harder and more motivated than before.

But the time I spend with her has decreased compared to before, and I still feel the distance…

We don’t walk around holding hands anymore, We don’t hug anymore.

I honestly feel lonely, but I try to think that this was the original distance.

I’m sure that both Urushibara-san and I must have been in a state of excitement for the past few months because we had suddenly become good friends.

In any case, Urushibara-san doesn’t seem to dislike me and continues to treat me as a friend, so I try to keep this distance from her.

After school, I no longer have time to spend with Urushibara-san, so I spend more time walking Dozle, like before.

It was getting colder in December, but Dozle was always in good spirits, always running around and frolicking in the primary school playground.

I practiced the karate pattern that Urushibara-san taught me on my own.

I’m still a bit skeptical, but I’m hoping that one day Urushibara-san will see my improved pattern…

◇◆◇

Just before the winter break, when I came home from school, Kasumi spoke to me for the first time in a long time.

I was about to enter the gate of my house when suddenly, from behind me, I heard “Ichiro! Please wait!”

I turned around and saw Kasumi standing there in her school uniform.

She looked kind of sad.

“Woof! GRRRR!!!”

Dozle started to make a fuss, probably because he heard Kasumi’s voice…

“Dozle! Stay down!”

“GRRRR!!!”

My words didn’t stop Dozle from threatening Kasumi.

“Can you wait a minute? I’ll quiet Dozle down.”

“O-Okay.”

I went over to Dozle, gave him a cuddle, and I ruffled his neck and ears. He got into a good mood and started to lick my face.

“Your mouth stinks!”

When I looked at Kasumi, she was peering at me anxiously from the gate.

“Come on in, Kasumi, you’re safe now.”

“Y-Yeah.”

When Kasumi came into the garden…

“Woof!”

“Hiii!”

“Stop! Don’t scare her!”
