Chapter 35 – Student Council in Turmoil

Urushibara-san alternated between looking at him and me, moving her head back and forth several times.

“Did you forget the face of your cute junior? It’s Kudo, Kouji Kudo.” (T/N: I don’t know why he calls himself cute here…)

“Ah… Yes, Kudo-kun. It’s been a while. I’m glad to see you’re well.”

“Um, do Moriyama-kun and Kudo-kun know each other?”

“Yes. We were in the same middle school, and the same track and field club. Senpai left in the middle of my second year.”

It’s true that he was one junior on the track and field team when I quit in the middle of my second year, but as a senior and junior, we must have known each other for about six months and we never got close enough for me to call him a cute junior…

“I see…”

Urushibara-san put her face close to my ear and whispered.

“Are you okay? If it’s too hard for you, we can just cancel you being a helper.”

“No, I’m fine. I was just a bit surprised.”

“Even so, I was surprised! I didn’t expect that it was Moriyama-senpai who was scouted by Urushibara-senpai.”

“Yes, when the idea of a helper came up, I couldn’t think of anyone better suited than Moriyama-kun. By the way, what did Kudo-kun just say about the chuuni syndrome?”

“Well, Moriyama-senpai used to be a popular guy with leadership qualities, and he was even considered to be the next head of the track and field club, but one day, he suddenly quit the club, so we all went to persuade him to come back. After that, he became quiet as if he had changed and stayed by himself all the time, so there were rumors that it was because he had developed a chuuni syndrome.”

Were there such rumors?

I never knew.

It’s something I don’t like to acknowledge, a youthful mistake.

After hearing Kudo-kun’s story, Urushibara-san stared at me silently.

I couldn’t tell whether the expression on her face was angry or sad, but I knew it wasn’t a happy expression.

“……”

“Um, Kudo-kun.”

“Yes, what is it?”

“Please don’t ever insult Moriyama-kun like that again. If you make another insulting remark about Moriyama-kun, I will not forgive you.”

“Eh?”

“Um, Urushibara-san, please take it easy. This is something that happens every day for us loners, so you don’t have to make a big deal about it…”

“No, I would never overlook it. I made you come here because of my own selfishness, but I definitely don’t want Moriyama-kun to feel uncomfortable.”

“Yes… I’m sorry, you’ve been so thoughtful…”

Urushibara-san is as angry as she was when Kasumi got involved.

“Um, I’m sorry you had to come here and go through that. I’m Nakayama, the student council president. As I’m sure you’ve heard, the student council is very busy right now and we could use all the help we can get. So maybe we’ve all been a bit on edge. On behalf of everyone, I apologize. I’m sorry. But we really need your help, Moriyama-kun. The student council needs people like you.”

“Yes, I don’t know if I can be of any help, but I’ll do my best.”

“Moriyama-senpai, I’m sorry for suddenly saying something rude…”

“Yes, it’s okay. I don’t really mind. Besides that, I don’t know anything about the student council, so please teach me.”

“Yes! I look forward to working with you!”

After that, they introduced themselves one by one and immediately started their work.

I followed Urushibara-san, who acted as treasurer, and learned a lot of things while assisting her in her duties.

After she got angry with Kudo-kun earlier, Urushibara-san behaved as usual when she started her work and seemed to be talking to me as usual, but her eyes were not smiling at all and I was worried that she might get angry again at any moment.

After we had been working like this for about an hour, the vice-president, Sakita-senpai, asked Urushibara-san and me to take a break.
