[Looking around, he saw a ferry. So he walked up and planned to cross the river by boat. ]

[Unexpectedly, the boatman saw that his clothes were sloppy, his feet were bare, and he looked strange, so he refused to ferry him across the river. ]

[The boatman and several business travelers crossing the river looked at the bald monk in front of them strangely, and laughed and commented on him. ]

[Ask him: You are a slovenly monk. You have a high nose, deep eyes, and a shaggy beard. You have such a strange face. You must not be from China. I wonder which foreign tribe you come from?]

[Bodhidharma replied: "The poor monk comes from the country of Tianzhu.]

[The boatman said: "Come from South Tianzhu? It is said that you Tianzhu people wipe your buttocks with your hands after going to the hut. You are so unhygienic. No, no, I can't let you come on my boat. Otherwise, you will disturb other distinguished guests"... . "]

[Ordinary businessmen also laughed and echoed: "That's right, we don't take the same boat with people who wipe their butts with their hands."]

[Dharma saw this and didn't say much. ]

[Just one person sat down on the ferry. ]

[Watches the ferry boat leave. ]

[But I saw the boat sailing to the other side amidst the laughter. ]

[However, not long after we reached the center of the river, the laughter suddenly stopped, and the people on the boat became panicked and started shouting. 〕

[It turned out to be the boatman's little daughter, who accidentally fell into the river because she was having fun on the deck. ]

[The water in the river was so strong that it rushed out all the way. ]

[The boatman rocking the boat, looking at his daughter who was swept away, screamed and jumped anxiously, but there was nothing he could do. ]

[Fortunately, on the ferry, I heard Bodhidharma calling for help. ]

[When I opened my eyes, I saw that the little girl was about to drown. ]

[Immediately broke off a reed at my feet and threw it into the river. ]

[Then he jumped up and stepped on the reeds on the river. ]

[Speeds away towards the little girl who fell into the water. ]

[Comes to the little girl and lifts her out of the water. ]

[Then he continued to step on the reeds, flew a few times, and lightly jumped to the other side. ]

[However, looking at the shore, Bodhidharma gently put down the little girl, turned around and left silently, without even leaving a name. ]

[Dharma goes all the way north. ]

[But after the monks saw the ceremony, they saw that Bodhidharma came barefoot and was so shabby that he didn't even bring any followers or scriptures, so they began to look down upon him. ]

[There was a monk named Shanmeng who looked down upon his humble appearance and thought that he was not an enlightened monk at all, so he wanted to have a Zen fight with him. ]

[Monk Shanmeng said: The lotus that grows in the mud can only be clean from the wonderful lotus, but not the turbidity from the mud. ]

[But Bodhidharma shook his head and said: Don’t change and let the circumstances change. Don’t change according to the circumstances! If mud can produce wonderful lotuses, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not good soil. ]

[Shan Meng chuckled and said: According to what the master said, there is no final conclusion in everything? Doesn’t it mean that bad things also have merit?]

[Dharma said: Nothing is good or bad, everything varies from person to person. Although sludge is foul and smelly, the wonderful lotus cannot grow without it. ]

[Shanmeng was dissatisfied and said: Since the master is an enlightened person, I want to ask you, master, where will this person go after he dies?]

[Dharma shook his head and said: I don’t know. ]

[Shan Meng sneered: So there are things in this world that you don’t know, Master?]

[Bodhidharma nodded: I’m not dead yet, so of course I don’t know what happens after death. ]

[When the monks heard this, they were quite enlightened by Zen principles. ]

[One day, all the monks were sitting in a pure room meditating, and it was stipulated that they were not allowed to speak for three days. ]

[But that night, Bodhidharma picked up the porcelain tile and rubbed it on the table. ]

[The monks were puzzled and asked him why?]

[Dharma said that this piece of porcelain tile should be ground into a mirror. ]

[Shanmeng laughed at him again and said: How can a porcelain tile be ground into a mirror?]

[Dharma said: Since a tile cannot be ground into a mirror, how can one become a Buddha by sitting in meditation?]

[The monks were shocked and quickly asked: How can one become a Buddha?]

[Dharma said: Buddha has no form, and practicing meditation is not sitting or lying down. You only know how to meditate but don’t know why you meditate, so you will never be able to see the Great Dao. ]

[The monks asked: How can I see the Great Dao?]

[Dharma Road: Practice from the fundamentals. ]

(Wang Hao) [The monks asked again: What is the root?]

[Dharma Road: The heart is the foundation!]

[At this time, Shanmeng and the monks were finally convinced by Bodhidharma's Dharma. ]

[One day, Liang Martial Emperor summoned Bodhidharma to discuss Buddhism with him. male]

[Liang Martial Emperor said: Since I came to the throne, I have repaired Buddhist temples, built Buddhist statues, copied Buddhist scriptures, and supported countless monks. May I ask, master, what merits do I have?]

[Bodhidharma shook his head and said: Your Majesty has no merit. ]

[Liang Martial Emperor said unhappily: I have done so many things for Buddhist Gate, why don’t I have any merit? Then what should I do to have merit?]

[Dharma said: Sympathy for the sufferings of the people, doing good deeds for the people of the world, saving all sentient beings, so that those who till the fields have their own fields, and those who live in their homes have their own houses, this is the merit. ]
