Chapter 279: The Thing Reminds One of Its Owner

Translator: Storm in a Teacup

“I didn’t expect you to remember me.”

“Aren’t you Si Yuhan’s brother? Why are you here?” asked Ke Nuo.

The smile was still on Si Chenye’s face, but his eyes were cold. “You will find it out soon. Now here’s another question. Do you want to see your brother? I’ll take you there.’

Ke Nuo looked at Si Chenye warily. “What did you do?”

Si Chenye said, “You’ll have to ask your beloved husband.”

Ke Nuo looked at Yu Xin, hoping to get an answer from him, but Yu Xin didn’t say a word or even look at her.

Si Chenye smiled. “Looks like your husband has nothing to say to you. Well, in that case, I’ll tell you.”

Yu Xin frowned and said. “What are you doing?”

And just as he said that, Si Chenye reached out to grab a painting on the table and handed it to Ke Nuo.

Yu Xin reached out to grab it, but it had already been opened. Ke Nuo looked at the portrait and was a little puzzled. “My brother?”

She looked up at Yu Xin. He remembered that his brother hated Yu Xin and was very resistant to him, and that’s why her brother was so opposed to her marrying Yu Xin.

Therefore, she subconsciously thought that Yu Xin should also hate her brother.

“Why?” Why did you  put my brother’s portrait beside youself?

“Because… the portrait reminds me of its owner.”

Ke Nuo was all stunned. She had never expected such an answer.

What did he mean by saying “the portrait reminds me of its owner?” Looking at his brother’s portrait to ease the feeling of lovesickness?

Ke Nuo’s hand started to tremble. It shouldn’t be what she thought. “Yu Xin, tell me that this isn’t true.”

Yu Xin looked at Si Chenye and frowned. “What are you doing? It has nothing to do with our plan.”

Si Chenye raised an eyebrow and said. “I can’t help it. I really can’t bear to let such a beautiful princess be kept in the dark all the time.”

Yu Xin didn’t look at Ke Nuo and ordered coldly , “Take the Empress away. No one is allowed to step outside the Jiaofang palace without my order.”

Ke Nuo had never seen such a cold Yu Xin before. He had always been gentle to her. How could he become so cruel to her now?

Ke Nuo didn’t make a scene. Now that Yu Xin refused to give her an answer, she believed someone would.

She turned around and wobbled a little.

“Wait,” Yu Xin suddenly called out to her.

Ke Nuo turned around with hopeful eyes.

“Give the portrait back to me.”

Ke Nuo couldn’t help but took two steps back. Everything was clear now. It was obvious that he liked her brother, not her.

Ke Nuo only felt like her throat was blocked by a ball of cotton and it was stuck in midair, making her very uncomfortable.

“Since… you like my brother, then why did you marry me?”

God knew how much efforts it took Ke Nuo to ask this question.

“It’s none of your business. Take her away,” Yu Xin took the portrait out off her hand and turned away coldly.

Ke Nuo bit her lower lip and tried very hard to hold back her tears.

She knew very well that crying were of no use. There used to be a brothers who loved her, and her husband, but now she had no one to rely on.

It turned out that what she insisted on was fake. They were puting on a show. The sincerity and love she used to believe in was just a lie.

The man that she thought loved her deeply, was in love with someone else from beginning to end, not her.

She had done so many stupid things for him. But to others or in his eyes, it was always a farce.

Ke Nuo felt so painful, and her heart ached, like she was about to die.
