“Zhaodi, come here to mother.” Yin Yin beckoned to her.

The little girl came over and defended herself anxiously, “Mom, I didn’t steal any money. I’m not a thief.” Grievance was obvious in her voice. She was looking at Yin Yin with expectation written in her eyes. It didn’t matter if the others didn’t believe in her, but she still hoped that her mother could believe in her.

Yin Yin pulled her and hugged her. She stroked her slightly yellowed and dry hair because of malnutrition with gentle movements, “Zhaodi, you are mom’s daughter. Mom believes in you, you’re not a thief.”

“Really?” The little girl’s eyes burst into light.

“Really.”

Yin Yin looked at her from the side and asked in a gentle tone, “Can Zhaodi tell Mom how you got that money?”

When the word money was mentioned, the little girl’s mood dropped visibly. Her eyelashes hung down.

“Can’t say it? If Zhaodi really doesn’t want to say it, mom won’t force you.” Everyone has a little secret kept hidden in their hearts. Children were no exceptions. In the case of Zhaodi, Yin Yin didn’t want to force her to reveal the truth.

“I picked up bottles in exchange for them,” Jiang Zhaodi said with a low voice. She lifted up her head, revealing her slightly wet almond eyes, and expectation filled her tone. “I want to save money, I want to go to middle school. Mom, I want to study.”

Both Yin Yin and Teacher Lin were taken aback for a moment. The thought that the money was obtained from picking bottles never crossed their minds.

Yin Yin resisted the choking in her throat and asked gently, “When did it start?”

Jiang Zhaodi anxiously clenched the corner of her washed white skirt using her tiny hands and whispered, “Since last semester, I, I have been going after school everyday. Go there and pick up bottles for half an hour, and sometimes I get up early to pick them up.”

“Mom, I know that our family is not well off, but I really like to study, and I can save my own tuition fees. I have already saved one hundred twenty-eight yuan and six cents.” The little girl’s eyes were slightly flushed. Even when she was bullied by Lin Rourou and ridiculed by the rest of the class, she didn’t cry, but now when the word study is mentioned, crystal drops of tears rolled on her face. Seeing that, Yin Yin’s heart was pulled hard.

Jiang Zhaodi has been making mental preparations lately, thinking of ways to tell her mother that she wants to continue studying. However, she hasn’t made up her mind yet, for fear that she would be rejected. So she wants to save more. Perhaps if she can save a lot of money, there is a possibility that her mother might agree with her to continue studying.

Teacher Lin on the side also agreed, “Zhaodi’s mother, Zhaodi’s grades are very good. With a score that is first in the class when it comes to every test, and going to the No. 1 Middle School located in City A is not at all a problem. As her teacher, I also hope she can keep studying.”

“You silly child.” Yin Yin wiped the tears on her face with gentle movements using her fingertips, “Mom knows that our family’s Zhaodi is very smart, so I planned to let you continue to study. Our family is poor, but if you like to study, then study. I’ve already talked with your father, let him come back to start a small business to earn more money. You don’t have to pick up bottles, just study hard.”

“Really?”

The little girl’s eyes were slightly wet, but they were brighter than ever.

“Really.”

The little girl finally relaxed, and she threw herself into Yin Yin’s arms happily: “Mom, I love you so much.”

Yin Yin wrapped her arms around the little girl, with a faint smile on her lips. She couldn’t hide the gentle love in her eyes.

Teacher Lin also heaved a sigh of relief. Seeing parents support their children in studying is the happiest thing for teachers like her.

After discussing the child’s school matter, Yin Yin remembered another matter, and her face turned solemn.
