17. Encounter

After another few days, Hadoon heard that the promise with Viscount Mayril had been fulfilled, and just as he was preparing to leave, the duke called.

“My father? Do you know what he called you for?”

“You just ordered me to call. It would be better to ask them directly.”

“You must be in the office at this time. Can I go there?”

“He told me not to tell you the location, but to direct you.”

I felt strangely uncomfortable. The father he knew would never leave the office at this time. Froden looked at the butler who was ahead and followed him.

It was the entrance to the mansion, but the direction was slightly different. He was on his way down to the basement, not in the direction to the office located on the upper floor.

“This way.”

I was lost in thought for a while and looked around blankly when I heard the butler’s voice in my ears. At some point, the butler, holding a magical lamp, was waiting for him in an upright posture typical of ducal butlers in front of the entrance that looked like a secret passage.

“This is the first place you see.”

“For generations, this is a space known only to the head of the household, the butler who assists him, and his successors.”

“…Take the lead.”

I felt like I was falling into an unknown maze even more at the words of the butler. Did our family have so many secrets? I stood at the entrance and talked to the butler, but he did not move a single step from the entrance.

“This is where I can guide you. This front is only for the excellent dukes, so I can’t enter.”

I handed over the prepared magical lamp to Froden. Unexpectedly, he was handed a magic lamp, and strangely, he looked at the space in the darkness where he could not see an inch ahead. He let out a sound from his wool stick as his saliva flowed naturally due to the tension.

“Come in. Aren’t you pretty busy too?”

The Duke’s voice came from the inner space. Judging from the clearly audible sound, it seemed that the inside was dark due to a magical device, but it did not seem to be a space that could be entered very deeply. When his father’s voice is so welcome. Froden sighed in relief and took a step forward.

-Hoo-wook

I heard a snort from somewhere, and at the same time, a strong wind swept through my body. When I opened my eyes in surprise, the whole area was engulfed in darkness. With the magical light he was holding, he was able to secure only the field of vision that could see the ground right in front of him. Even the door to the aisle closed before I knew it, and I couldn’t step back.

“Father. The eldest son you have been looking for has arrived. Where are you?”

“It is inside. Come in slowly.”

As if the light was consumed by the darkness, the visible distance did not change even when the brightness was adjusted. The fear in the dark, where there was nothing to secure sight, was hard to describe in words. If this magic lamp, which emits a small light, disappears, it seems like it will be sucked into the darkness and eaten.

The sudden fear of the dark ate Froden’s thoughts and took away his breath bit by bit. I didn’t do anything, I just stood there, but my breathing quickened. Cold sweat ran through his body and he felt chills.

Gradually, the strength in his knees was released, and he was in a half-sitting position. Despite the fact that there was nothing there and it was impossible to check for anything passing by, he looked around in amazement. He even turned around and swung his arms in all directions because his ears were getting chills.

I think I’ll be consumed by fear at this rate. I have to do something… But what should I do. Why did i come here what the hell are you doing here was there anything i had to do ah, i don’t know Someone else will take care of the outside work.

“…Tina.”

-Kkadeuk

The smell of blood lingered in my mouth along with the sharp pain. I was awakened by the excruciating pain. The body that had been suppressed by fear stretched out and the darkness that was blocking the vision withdrew to one side. It was only then that all the distracting factors disappeared, and then something began to come into view. It was a narrow single road surrounded by walls and walls.

“Why did you create a space like this?”

It was his fiancée, no one or nothing, who lifted him up from his receding consciousness. She is a proud fiancée who shines brighter than anyone else, with the ability and determination to always be confident and observe her own opinions.

She managed to catch her consciousness, thinking that if she sat there like this, she would never see such a young lady again. The timing was close, as the surrounding darkness was covering half of his body.

Shaking her head and coming back to her senses, Froden took out her simple hemostat and applied first aid to the wound inside her mouth. When her blood stopped and the pain subsided a little, she spat out the blood that had pooled in her mouth.

“She overcame it with her love. She acts like the protagonist of a romance novel.”

There was a lot of ridicule in his voice. Cynical about her love. She herself, by her dukeish nature, would not like to see herself like this. A nobleman who is more tolerant of her marriage than anyone else is unnecessarily picky at times like this.

“Love is an indispensable emotion for human life. When everyone is in love, they become the protagonists of romance novels.”

“How can a lump of blood not yet 20 years old smirk.”

“I learned everything from watching my father.”

“You have to know how to lose at least one word. Keep coming inside along the way.”

At the end of her speech, the Duke’s tone changed to grumbling, and Froden finally relaxed his stiff face. Even when she first talked to her, only her voice was the same, and her way of speaking and atmosphere seemed like a different person. By the time she told me to come in, she had returned to her usual tone, but she was a little odd. This situation.

She looked around just in case, but couldn’t find anything. She was just the environment where she simply cut out the wall and made a single path. I wondered if the phenomenon earlier was magic, so I looked for the magic circle, but there was nothing that looked unusual.

I couldn’t get anything in the end, and I just walked for 20 minutes along the single road leading inside. Due to the structure of the mansion, this part that I was walking on was no longer the mansion, but the outside. Why did you make such a long aisle?

“Stand at the door.”

I was walking in a daze and stopped in shock at the voice of the duke. Suddenly, the single road disappeared, and a huge iron gate whose size was difficult to guess at a glance appeared in front of my eyes. I looked back just in case, but as expected, the single road I had walked so far was nowhere to be seen.

“Froden Excellent. Answer Even if you witness absurd things, can you accept them as truth?”

I don’t know what you’re talking about, but the most absurd story in this world is probably the alien knowledge in your head.

“If it is difficult to accept the truth, I will erase your memory and make the current situation nothing.”

“Please show me at least once. Isn’t there a saying that you have to be down to make money.”

The humorous words relieved the tension a little. Whenever she heard her father’s words, she broke into a cold sweat and even fainted.

“Good. Come in.”

The door slowly opened with a heavy sound. The door opened, and light burst from the inside, in contrast to before. As my eyes adjusted to the light that was blocking my vision, I struggled to open my eyes and looked inside the door.

“Ha. There is really nothing to be surprised about in life now.”

I let out a sigh.

A luxurious teacup was set on the table. It contained hot tea that steamed up due to the heat. As I took a sip of the teacup, the refreshing scent burst into my mouth and exhaled through my nose. It is a good tea that you can enjoy with your mouth and finish with a fragrance.

“Does tea suit your taste? I specially prepared a tea that Young master likes after asking for it. I hope you are satisfied.”

A woman sitting across from her is addressing her with her fan covering half of her face. She knew it would be disrespectful to cover her face in front of a higher aristocracy, except at a masquerade ball.

“Why is her face covered?”

“Once upon a time, I was doused with hot water in an accident, leaving ugly burn marks on my face. I’m embarrassed to show it to others, so I’m covering it up, so please forgive me.”

“A lot of burn scars can be healed with potions if you spend money… It seems like a lot of time has passed.”

“At the time of the accident, I couldn’t even get money to buy potions. I am thinking of selling them all.”

It was so suspicious that he was covering his face. If half of the face was covered with burns, the lips would be crooked and the words would come out slurred. For such a thing, he was speaking without leaking a single pronunciation.

“It doesn’t seem like a good place to talk about a woman’s face. So, I’m thinking of changing the subject, but is that okay?”

“There were many examples. Then let’s get to the point.”

“Oh no. I was so distracted that I forgot to give you a present. Please wait a moment. I will prepare it and bring it to you soon.”

After that, I was at a loss for words when I saw her rushing out of the parlor before anyone could stop her. By the way, there were no burn marks anywhere on the face that could be seen through the gap of the fan, and an off-white color that boasted smooth skin was settled.

“Lying, even leaving the seat to prepare presents that don’t exist. There is no corner where everyone is not suspicious.”

It was the moment when doubt turned to certainty.
