The Way of The Dao

Chapter 522 (Vol 3) – Would His Biological Father Be Feeling The Same As This Man?

A painful cry filled with sadness and grief spread throughout the place, Feng Wuyu embraced the last legacy of his late son.

Ling Tian had quickly deployed an isolation barrier to prevent Feng Wuyu's cries from being heard.

"My Yu'er..."

A hoarse voice came out after a long time, when the moon had finally risen and created a melancholy and sad atmosphere. Feng Wuyu murmured in a hoarse voice, evidently in pain and full of sadness as he held the small old book to his chest.

Ling Tian could not help but feel a little more sadness, realizing that Feng Wuyu's complexion had grown older, as if losing years of vitality as he lost all traces of hope. His eyes were empty without any emotion, unwilling to take his gaze from the small book with him.

He had not read the contents of book, but even a fool could understand that the owner had written his last words in it, thus confirming his probable death.

"Thank you..."

Once again, Feng Wuyu's hoarse voice was heard as he looked at Ling Tian and thanked him for bringing him this possession. Although that hope had been extinguished, Ling Tian had brought him the only thing he had left of his son.

Ling Tian stood and personally poured him a cup of tea from the teapot. His hand rested on the trembling shoulder of Feng Wuyu, who still could not calm down.

"I'm sorry." Ling Tian whispered with a sad expression. The expression Feng Wuyu showed reminded him a lot of his sworn brother's expression when he had lost his wife, Jiu Ming, thinking she had died.

"..." Feng Wuyu nodded slightly, then after a long while, picked up the tea cup and sipped slowly.

"By any chance... did you find his remains?"

After a long time, Feng Wuyu spoke again in a trembling voice, somehow looking with a slight expectation at Ling Tian.

"Yes." Ling Tian nodded as he saw Feng Wuyu's gaze light up slightly only to fade again, then he added, "As I mentioned to you, I found his belongings in that Celestial Tiger's cave. The part of some bones were buried in the ground, so I didn't have time to do anything when the guards of the place arrived."

Ling Tian also handed him the bag where the small book was. Feng Wuyu took it with trembling hands and looked at the things inside.

"My Yu'er... you should have let dad die in your place... you should have lived..." Feng Wuyu muttered again in pain as he pulled out a small plant all wilted and ugly, with no vitality at all. Even its leaves and petals turned to dust at this moment when Feng Wuyu's fingers brushed against them.

"Yang Heart Plant?" Ling Tian raised his eyebrows slightly when he recognized the spiritual herb that had dried up.

Although this spiritual plant could be easily obtained in the Immortal Realm, in the Cultivation Worlds, it was of great importance. Its grade was equivalent to the Golden Core, and which could be refined with other spiritual herbs to cure most of men's illnesses or even improve one's cultivation aptitude.

There was also a Yin Heart Plant, which was specifically for women.

Feng Wuyu looked at the withered plant for a long time before looking at the other things; some valuables that had rusted or become old due to the passage of time.

"The Celestial Tiger has been killed, so you can go find his remains without any inconvenience." Ling Tian said softly, briefly stopping Feng Wuyu's breathing.

"S-Seriously?" Feng Wuyu looked with great expectation at Ling Tian. He wanted to go find his son's remains right now!

"I promise." Ling Tian nodded and immediately said, "If you go at this time, you won't have much trouble. The guards are aware and I think they would tell the City Lord."

"Thank you very much!" Feng Wuyu stood up and bowed to Ling Tian clenching his fists together, showing great gratitude for being the one who had brought him news of his missing son. Feng Wuyu did not care that Ling Tian was a young man, he still felt appreciation and gratitude to the savior who had found his son's remains.

"I never had bad intentions in using your son's identity and giving you high hopes, it just happened that I was mistaken for him. I hope you can forgive me." Ling Tian stood up and took Feng Wuyu's hands, preventing him from doing the whole grateful behavior. A gentle smile formed on his face at the sight of this old man who had been through a lot in his life.

"Ever since I saw you, I have been aware that you were not a mere youth, let alone a crippled person. Even Feng Rao's aura wasn't able to move you." Feng Wuyu finally smiled slightly, looking at Ling Tian and telling him that he had been aware that Ling Tian didn't even frown when he and Feng Rao clashed through their auras!

This meant that this young man in front of him was currently much stronger than them!

Ling Tian smiled calmly as well and said, "I didn't plan to harm your family from the beginning, I just wanted a place to rest together with my disciples. Then we would leave."

"Don't worry, you are free to stay here, I won't say anything. Besides, it doesn't matter if you make a fuss here... from this moment on, this family no longer has any meaning to me." Feng Wuyu let out a deep sigh, raising his gaze to the sky as he thought of countless things. His only family was his late son, so now he was definitely alone.

"Although I am not your son, I am certain that he would not be sorry in having given his life for you to live. Just as you love your son, I am sure he also loved you very much and would wish for you to continue to live." Ling Tian tried to encourage this man who had nothing left in life. He would not hesitate to give his life for his wives, let alone his parents, those people who gave him everything unconditionally.

Moreover, Ling Tian could catch a hint of hidden murderous intent in Feng Wuyu's eyes, as if he had thought of doing something when he read a part of the little old book.

Feng Wuyu flashed a small smile again and looked at Ling Tian, "You really do look a bit like him..." That gaze turned soft and affectionate for a moment as he remembered his son.

Ling Tian simply smiled softly and stretched out his arms.

Feng Wuyu smiled gratefully and hugged Ling Tian, immersing himself in the feeling and remembering his son.

Feng Wuyu stepped back a few steps and again showed a grateful smile to Ling Tian, for allowing him to remember his beloved son for a few moments.

Then, Feng Wuyu retreated from the personal courtyard in the direction towards the place where Ling Tian had come at first to look for his son's remains. Ling Tian watched Feng Wuyu's lonely, melancholy back until he disappeared, sighing to himself.

Would his biological father be feeling the same as this man?

Ling Tian couldn't help but wonder if it would be the same for his biological father thanks to those vague memories he had now, being almost certain that he shouldn't have been abandoned...

"At some point I'll get to the truth..."

Ling Tian took a deep breath before sitting back down and pouring himself another cup of tea, calming down and returning to his usual temperament. Now that he had recovered some of his lost memories, Ling Tian believed that in time he would be able to recover more memories and perhaps he would be able to discover his true origin.

Suddenly, two figures descended in the middle of the night, being illuminated by the moonlight and standing a few meters close to Ling Tian.

"I hope the little brother will excuse me for my earlier audacity..."

A serious voice, but completely filled with respect, firmness and even a bit of fear, came from the mouth of an old man as he bowed and clenched his fists together in front of Ling Tian.
