The Way of The Dao

Chapter 439 (Vol 2) – Soul Memories (4)

In a huge valley where the mountains were destroyed and the rivers were dry, the sky was split in half and space was a mess, blood and flesh stretched out in all directions. This place looked like a battlefield of Gods...

In the center of what was one of the greatest and most horrific battles, the body of a dying woman lay weakly as the life force in her lessened. Beautiful, crystal blue feathers were strewn about, but they were just as shattered and in a horrible state.

Quickly, the man suddenly appeared, which created a horrible turbulence in the space around him and destroyed part of the place.

The man was not much better either. His body had several holes in it and layers of his blood had dried all over his body. His breathing was uncontrolled and his consciousness was shaken. What looked like a strange golden colored scale stained with blood fell from his body. But it seemed that the stamina in him was incredible and he could recover in a long time.

When the man looked at the state of his wife, a fury, anger, despair, hatred, helplessness, sadness and more came over him. He quickly embraced her with care and gentleness as he tried to transmit his own strength and energy to her through their unique spiritual connection they shared.

"My King, I... I think I'm going to heaven..." The woman murmured faintly as she tried to reach up and touch her beloved man's face.

He poured all his energy and power into her, wanting to stop that loss of life even to the point of sharing his own vitality with her although her wounds worsened. His complexion became uglier and desperate to the point of using all the secret and powerful techniques he knew so that his beloved woman would not die. His own condition worsened, but he didn't care.

"Please hold on..." He whispered, keeping his voice from shaking while despair overwhelmed him.

"My King... if there is a next life, I hope to be your wife again and be able to give you a child..." The woman spoke weakly, feeling her strength weakening as her consciousness faded. Her hand finally caressed her husband's cheek, which, was already wet with tears coming from his eyes.

"My King, don't cry..." She had only seen her man cry once before, but now he was crying for her again. Her heart hurt and was filled with sadness as she felt her beloved man's despair.

"My Queen, what are you saying? Please don't give up..." His voice finally trembled, tears streaming down his face as pain and despair tore him apart inside. Helplessness and sadness shook his body.

Several figures began to appear on the scene. But when they saw the state of the two, they were shocked and sadness and grief also hit them all.

"My king..." The woman whispered, her sight finally becoming blurry but still able to feel the last traces of her husband's warmth reaching her. She gathered all her strength and said, "My husband... go ahead and don't worry about me. You still have to make my sisters happy too, I already accepted them and longed to make you happier together with them... they love you and will make you happy in my place... even those little girls we took care of since they were small have already grown up and have chosen you as their only companion for life..."

"What nonsense are you talking?!" The man couldn't help shedding more tears as he felt his wife's vitality getting weaker and weaker. He embraced her with more love and desperation, "You are and will always be my great love and I wouldn't replace you with anyone. I promised you that I would always love you with all my heart and would do anything to make you happy. Just... please, stay with me..." Although he was aware of the feelings of all those women who were very important to the point that he considered them as his family, he still wanted to be faithful to his only wife.

When she faintly heard his words, she could not help but smile full of happiness, love and gratitude to this great man who was her husband. She felt that her husband deserved more happiness and love, so she wanted to make him happy too.

"Please be happy and never forget me..." The last vestiges of her consciousness began to fade. Her small hand tried to cling to her husband's cheek as she said her last words, "My King, My Husband, My Great and Mighty Dragon..."

The women on the spot were shedding large amounts of tears as they saw the sad scene before their eyes. The cries and sadness struck everyone.

The man hugged his beloved woman's body tighter, with despair and heartbreaking pain tearing him apart completely. His arms held his beloved wife's body unwilling to let her go.

The others were no better either. They all felt so desperate, helpless, sad and in pain.

The stars in the firmament seemed to fall like shooting stars, bringing a sadness throughout the whole realm, as if expressing the lamentation and sorrow at what was happening.

At once, the man raised his head to the sky, his eyes empty as he opened his mouth to scream and try to get out all the intense hurt inside him.

But even though no sound came out of his mouth, a horrible atmosphere could be felt, as if the most powerful and savage beast had finally awakened and seemed to be able to destroy the heavens with its own strength.

"What good is it to me to be the strongest?"

"What good is it to me to have a heaven-shaking strength?"

"What good is it to me to have killed all those gods if in the end I couldn't protect you?"

"If I can't be with you, then it's not worth living anymore..."

The man murmured as he lovingly and gently embraced his wife's body, his energy beginning to shake in a strange way as a figure faintly began to manifest above him in the sky. The wrenching pain in his heart and soul overwhelmed him.

"King!"

"Lord!"

"Master!"

"Brother!"

The others sensed something was not right as they began to feel the man's energy and saw the shadow of what looked like a Dragon in the sky above him. They all called out in concern.

The man turned to look at everyone before waving his hand at them and making them disappear into the horizon sending them gently flying away.

"I'm sorry... you will always be my brothers and family in this life and the next..." The man smiled and looked at those brothers with whom he had lived all kinds of moments and forged an unbreakable brotherhood. At once, he looked at the women with tears in their eyes and doing all they could to resist his force and said to them with a loving smile, "Forgive me... if we meet again... if... if there is a next life and, fate still brings us together again, I promise that I will make you happy no matter what..." Although he knew he was being selfish, he really couldn't go on.

The last traces of his energy carried everyone away a great amount of distance, mysteriously sending them to another domain...

The man took a deep breath before looking at the calm face of his beloved wife who seemed to be sleeping peacefully as he kissed her tenderly on her forehead. His longing that seemed to take shape and spread in space like a feeling was to live for all eternity with his beloved wife, having children and forming a beautiful family.

If she is not in his life, then he could not be happy. Nothing would be worthwhile without her...

"My Queen, My Wife, My Beloved and Beautiful Ice Phoenix..." His last words came from his heart, hugging her tightly and conveying his deep and infinite love when a golden light illuminated the place.

The figure of a huge and powerful Golden Dragon soared into the sky and roared fiercely, creating cracks in all realms and planes before disappearing.

A beautiful crystalline blue light soon began to illuminate the space as well and soon combined with the golden light that covered the entire sky.

A silhouette in the form of an Ice Phoenix cried out and flew along with the Golden Dragon, piercing through the sea of clouds and dispersing into particles, finally forming two small glowing lights and disappearing beyond the heavens...
