After they got out of the car, Ji Hanjiang threw the car keys to the valet. He held Yan Yiren’s hand, pulling it to his lips as he gave it a light peck. “Yiren, I didn’t scare you just now, did I?” he asked.

Yan Yiren shook her head.

One good thing about Ji Hanjiang is that although he was easily angered, he was also easily appeased. In their relationship, he never acted like the young master he was.

“Silly girl. All I wanted was to be able to call you mine sooner, don’t you know?” After cajoling her for a while, he led her into the club.

After being seated at the restaurant, they ordered their meal. Ji Hanjiang then asked about her plans for the future.

The future?

As she thought about these two words, Yan Yiren began feeling lost……

Her mother was an only child. After her grandparents passed on, she had drifted away from her relatives on the maternal side and soon lost contact with them entirely.

As for her relatives on the paternal side, other than her ailing grandma, she would rather die than keep in touch with them.

What are my plans for the future?

I have no clue. I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.

After sharing her thoughts, Ji Hanjiang asked out of curiosity, “You never planned on when you would get married to me?”

Yan Yiren had learned to be smart this time around by not answering the question directly. She threw the question back at him. “Shouldn’t you be asking yourself that question?”

If her boyfriend hadn’t proposed, how was she supposed to get married?

Ji Hanjiang paused. With one hand clenched loosely into a fist and another pinching the bridge of his nose, he chuckled. “Can I take that as a hint that you’re ready for me to propose?”

Yan Yiren smiled without saying a word. Just then, the dishes they ordered were served and the subject was dropped for now. Phew!

Yan Yiren’s beauty was undeniable. Just by dressing in well-fitted office-wear that was not even branded, she brought out the seductiveness of uniforms.

One by one, the men sitting near them had shifted their gaze to take a glimpse, causing Ji Hanjiang’s anger to rise. Leaning his head onto his palm, he twirled a knife. “Maybe I should use this knife to gouge out the eyeballs of those men,” he said.

“Aren’t you afraid you’ll scare me?” Yan Yiren tipped her wine glass, and the red wine trickled into her mouth smoothly.

The sight of her neck, as slender as a swan’s, made Ji Hanjiang feel hot all over.

“Yiren, you’ve surely been sent by the heavens to torture me,” he said. Being unable to taste what’s right in front of you has got to be the worst torture!

Yan Yiren blushed, her lips glistening. Captivated, Ji Hanjiang stared at her with sharp intent. All of a sudden, his gaze shifted to someone behind her.

The two of them caught a whiff of musky perfume as a woman leaned over Yan Yiren’s shoulder. It was Ling Yunhuan. Her head was right next to Yan Yiren’s. Slightly drunk, she said woozily, “Yiren, Hanjiang, what a coincidence to see you here.”

Yan Yiren looked at her bestie, standing up to help her sit down. Her brows unconsciously drew into a knot, “Huanhuan, why did you drink so much?”

“I’m accompanying my boss to entertain our clients,” she said slurring her words. “I don’t have a choice…” Ling Yunhuan proceeded to take a seat next to her before slumping over the table, not at all concerned about how that would look.

It seemed that she was quite intoxicated.

Ling Yunhuan worked in the executive sector where the pay was so meager it was practically nonexistent. To earn some extra money, she was expected to entertain her clients with her boss frequently.

To put it simply, entertaining her clients meant having to drink with them.

And without a prestigious background to worry about or protect, she usually ended up getting wasted.

Yan Yiren patted her back, feeling sorry for her best friend. She looked over at Ji Hanjiang and said, “Hanjiang, why don’t you go over and help Huanhuan establish some connections?”

“I’ll try.”

Ji Hanjiang urged, “Quick, eat up. You have the appetite of a kitten. Eat more.”

Ling Yunhuan, who had her head to the table, slowly began coming around. The fatigue on her face was obvious even with the refined makeup she had piled on. “Hanjiang, let me thank you in advance.”

“You should be thankful to Yiren instead.”

“Yiren, you truly are my sister!” Ling Yunhuan turned as she brought Yan Yiren into an embrace, pressing a sloppy kiss onto her cheek.

 …

After dinner, Ji Hanjiang and Yan Yiren first drove Ling Yunhuan home, before returning to Yan Yiren’s single apartment.

As he left Yan Yiren’s apartment, Ji Hanjiang’s phone rang.

A woman’s voice asked flirtatiously, “Hanjiang, are you coming over tonight?”
