Chapter 49: Huanhuan, You’re Itching for a Smack!

Her bestie was more reliable than her boyfriend. Yan Yiren knew this was true and had mixed feelings about it.

With her hand covering her mouth, Ling Yunhuan chuckled. She laughed so much she fell on top of Yan Yiren. “Now you realize how good I am to you, don’t you? You have to treat me well in the future too, got it?”

Yan Yiren pinched her chin, tilting it left and right. “Let me devote myself to you, ok?”

“Don’t! Don’t! Don’t!” Ling Yunhuan jerked away. She got up and waved her hand repeatedly. “I’m scared that Ji Hanjiang will kill me! How dare I touch his woman!”

“Huanhuan, you’re itching for a smack!” Yan Yiren put the bowl of porridge down, chuckling as she went to tickle Ling Yunhuan.

The two engaged in joyful banter and ultimately both ended up lying on the hospital bed. Seeing how late it was, Yan Yiren jabbed Ling Yunhuan with her elbow. “It’s almost time for work. Aren’t you going?”

Ling Yunhuan covered her eyes with one hand and begrudgingly grumbled, “How’s that something a person does? Aside from the heavy workload, I have to accompany my boss to entertain the clients all day long. If you put it nicely, we’re civil servants. But to put it bluntly, I’m just my boss’s bar girl.”

Yan Yiren turned sideways and looked at her. “Didn’t Hanjiang help you establish some connections? Hasn’t your situation got any better?”

“So what if he established some connections? I don’t come from a prestigious background. Furthermore, my boss tells me one thing but says something else behind my back. How can I feel comfortable like that?” Ling Yunhuan felt a sudden surge of emotions as she lowered the hand over her eyes. “In the end,” she lamented, “someone like me who doesn’t come from a prestigious background will be crushed beneath others no matter where I go. I have wanted to quit for a long time. I don’t have to write a resignation letter. It’ll be better if they just fire me directly.”

“Have you considered coming to work for my company?” Yan Yiren suggested. “I can put in a word for you with the President. There shouldn’t be a problem.”

She and Ling Yunhuan had the same profession, so a position in an advertising firm would be appropriate for her. It wouldn’t be too tough for her.

They had a public relations department, so they wouldn’t be required to entertain clients.

If only Ling Yunhuan hadn’t insisted on trying to become a civil servant, she probably wouldn’t have had to tire herself out so much.

Not only was her salary low, but it was almost impossible for her to be promoted.

Although it was a job that was recession-resistant, the future was uncertain. How much time does a young woman have to focus on her career?

Ling Yunhuan pursed her lips a little before breaking into a chuckle. “Don’t worry about me. I’ll give my job a little more thought. I fancy a job that’s a little challenging, so working for an advertising firm isn’t ideal for me.”

After an hour, the two nurses that Ji Hanjiang had hired arrived. Ling Yunhuan waved her hand to indicate they should leave. “We don’t need you guys here. I can take care of Yiren.”

“But Young Master Ji has already paid us, we…” The nurses looked like they were in a difficult position.

“It’s alright. You can keep the money. You don’t need to perform the tasks you were asked to.”

The two nurses still looked unsure. They turned round to seek help from Yan Yiren. “Miss Yan, what do you think?”

Yan Yiren was still very frail. After having breakfast, she could feel her eyelids getting heavy. “Just listen to Huanhuan. You can go.”

She watched the nurses leave before closing the door behind them. Ling Yunhuan adjusted the temperature on the air-conditioning and tucked her into bed. “Go to sleep now. I’ll be right beside you.”

In the evening, Ji Hanjiang came to visit Yan Yiren as soon as he finished work.

He pushed open the door and saw Yan Yiren and Ling Yunhuan chatting away happily. It made a stark contrast to her attitude towards him in the morning.

Bitterness bubbled within Ji Hanjiang. He let go of the door handle and made his way in. “Yiren, are you feeling better?”
