The Secret Of Vanetta

Chapter 20:Ruby - Emmy

In the afternoon, when Ruby was cleaning up some work in the kitchen, suddenly a co-worker's voice called Ruby.

Ruby immediately turned around and walked over to him.

As they were close to each other, Ruby's co-worker asked in a low voice, "Did you convey Grandma's message earlier to the customer named Roselyn?"

His voice was half-whispered as if he didn't want anyone to hear him.

Hearing that, Ruby nodded.

"Yeah, I already said that."

"That's great!" Ruby's co-workers were relieved.

Ruby was silent for a moment as if remembering something, she immediately whispered to her partner while showing a surprised expression.

"Hey, do you know what's in the little package that grandma left us earlier?"

Her co-worker was a little confused, he immediately asked impatiently, "What's in it?"

Ruby looked left and right, making sure it was safe for her to talk about this at this point.

"That package...." Ruby whispered less and less, "It contains money!"

"Hahhhh?" Ruby's co-workers were surprised to hear that. "What? Money? Are you serious? You're not kidding Ruby! Where's the money in that package? And again, the old lady looks shabby and dirty, how could she give money to a guest named Roselyn!"

Ruby glared at the man who was her co-worker, feeling that she was making it up to tell him the truth.

"Never mind if you don't believe me!" Ruby turned around, ready to leave. "Why would I lie!"

Paying no mind to her co-workers anymore, Ruby went to the back to get ready.

"Hey... Ruby, wait!" Her co-workers followed behind her.

"Never mind, I want to get ready first. My work is done. I want to go home." Ruby said nonchalantly.

"Wait a minute! Is what you said true?" Ruby's co-workers were still curious.

"Yeah, right! Never mind, I'm almost late."

"Late for what? Where are you going?"

"Tonight, I have to go to the nightclub on de Falces Street. I can't be late."

"Huh? Ruby, are you crazy?" Her co-workers were surprised to hear Ruby's words.

"Do you know where it is?

De Falces street is a quiet area, even now it is rarely used anymore. Why go to a nightclub that far? Are there no good nightclubs here?" His words were full of ridicule.

Her co-workers thought Ruby was ridiculous. Had to go to a far and lonely nightclub. Whereas here there are many other nightclubs that are better and busier.

"That's not it. Last night, I hit a granny. So, to account for my carelessness last night, That Grandma asked me to come to the Luz del Alba club tonight." Ruby explained.

"Why ask you to go to a nightclub? Why not a clinic or somewhere else, Which makes more sense." Her coworker still didn't understand.

"Never mind. I have to go. Please tell Juan, I'm going home first, okay?"

She rode her scooter to the club. In her heart, she still thought of her mother, Emmy. But she also felt disappointed and felt helpless with all the wounds her mother had for her father's behavior.

*** ***

Inside the house, Ruby was sitting on the sofa hugging her legs with her hands, she buried her head between her fully wrapped arms. Her eyes were closed, she felt there was a lot of burdens she had to carry alone

Why did it feel so heavy? Her heart ached and her body felt tired. There was not even a place for her to ask for help.

But she had to stay strong! Can't be weak! Can't give up!

'Nothing comes after darkness but light, nothing comes after sorrow but happiness.' Ruby tries to motivate herself.

To pick up that happiness, she must keep the spirit!

Slowly, Ruby raised her head again, she looked at the yard through the window beside her. She reached out with one hand, grabbed the edge of the cloth, and pushed back the curtain that was blocking her view.

Ruby looked up at the dark night sky, only a faint light could be seen from behind the moonlight which was obscured by the clouds in the sky. The same is true of her current state. It was so dark and cold, there was not the slightest light, not the moon to shine within her.

Tonight, the house was quiet and lonely. There was only sound from the television that Emmy was watching. No conversation was heard from the two because Emmy and Ruby were equally strong, silent to each other without making a sound.

Since the incident, the other day when Emmy attempted suicide, the two of them were never seen talking and even joking as usual. Now there is a distance between the two of them. Even though Emmy always acts normal to Ruby, it's just that ... Ruby never responds. She was always indifferent to Emmy, making Emmy helpless.

Suddenly Emmy opened her mouth, trying to break the silence, "Ruby! Don't be hostile to me like this. You've been keeping your mouth shut, as if you don't want to talk to Mama."

Seeing no response from Ruby, Emmy again said, "Ruby! I'm sorry!"

Emmy didn't want to continue like this. There must be some distance between her and Ruby, she doesn't want to! Better yet, she gave in.

Ruby heard the words from Emmy. She turned her head to look at the woman who was sitting opposite her.

Ruby watched Emmy from head to toe. Currently, her condition has started to improve. Emmy was able to carry out her usual activities.

However, Emmy still felt pain in her wrist. But the doctor said 'no problem', Emmy was fine. It made Ruby feel relieved.

Still no response from Ruby, Emmy immediately got up, she sat beside Ruby. Gently, she stroked her daughter's hair.

"Mama, promise me not to do it again, honey!" Her voice was so soft and low. Sounding loving, looking at Ruby.

It's not that Ruby doesn't want to be spoiled for Emmy anymore. It's just that right now she wants to be alone first, to calm her heart.

She is not an ungodly child who ignores her mother, hates her mother, and continues to ignore her. She just still feels disappointed in Emmy for her stupid actions that night.

"Ruby!"

Ruby still didn't respond. She even looked at the clock on the wall.
