The Rest, Only Noise

Chapter 498: Negotiation between loyal people

The Warriors general manager who called Louie and offered the offer was not the Jack McMahon he was familiar with.

McMahon resigned on December 31, 1987, the last day of last year.

It's rare, in any era, that a general manager's caliber rarely leaves during a season.

But McMahon had a reason to leave, and his body couldn't hold it.

The disease-riddled McMahon could no longer bear the workload of professional basketball, so he, who should have held on until the end of the season, left his job in the middle of the season.

For him personally, it's a pity.

He has been a scout for the 76ers for so many years, and his sense of smell as a professional has been praised by many. Such a person should have been sitting in the general manager position.

At least that's what Louis sees it. Throughout the history of the NBA, there are many powerful general managers. There is only one goblin like Auerbach. Most general managers are shortsighted idiots.

McMahon's successor is Don Nelson, who was sacked from the Bucks for "family reasons."

In fact, Nelson found a new job in Golden State after the Bucks were dismissed.

Before McMahon left, Nelson was the Warriors' vice president of basketball operations, and now he is both vice president and general manager of the team.

The Warriors' president of basketball operations is vacant.

That is to say, the vice president exercises the real power of the president in the name of the deputy position. Nelson himself is the vice president, and he has the power of life and death for the Warriors.

It took years in Milwaukee to build a historically rare defensive team, but it couldn't succeed in an era dominated by the Celtics. As a result, Nelson decided that defense was the way to go and that offense was the future of basketball.

He wants to build a team that can beat the Celtics on offense.

When he heard that the Knicks were touting Dale Ellis, he didn't hesitate to call.

Nelson had heard of Louie's negotiating style from some people, so he knew it would be impossible to get Louie to give them Ellis by personal connection, but he didn't bother to argue, so the offer was extremely appealing.

"Lu, I won't go around in circles with you." Nelson is Jerry West's type of bomber, "Dale Ellis is not having a good time in New York, you have several in your lineup with He's a similar player who has a lot of trouble off the court, so getting him right should be your priority."

Isn't that called going around in circles? Louie thought that Nelson, who became the management, would take away the resolute style of the Bucks period, but he didn't expect that he would happily quote the price after he was wrangling.

"Lu, I think your lineup is already saturated. Even if I let you choose whatever you want, you probably won't be able to see many of the Warriors. So, I made two offers." Nelson said directly, "Larry Smith (LarrySmithC/PF) plus a 1994 first-round pick, which is the No. 1 trade option. Or Reggie Williams and a 1992 first-rounder and a 1994 first-rounder swap. This It's the No. 2 deal."

Nelson laughed: "I don't think any other team would offer a more sincere offer than us."

Indeed, it was an offer that Louis would have a hard time rejecting.

Nelson aimed at two points, the Knicks are not short of everything, at least, they lack a bench in the center position.

For the championship team, Song Tao's ability as a substitute for Ewing is still almost, and Brad Rohos is purely joking.

So Larry Smith in the first offer was alluring.

This person is like another Oakley, a short but stout insider, nicknamed "the villain", and an extroverted personality with an unimaginable paranoid about rebounding. Probably because there is a requirement on the number of rebounds in his contract. Otherwise, there is no way to explain why someone else robs him of rebounding, and his teammates have to be beaten.

He's a common thug inside the league today.

The difference between him and Oakley is that in addition to rebounding and fighting, protecting the team's stars, there is no other ability. As the Warriors' patience with Joe Barry Carroll ran out, management decided to move forward, and Smith's historic mission was over.

If Smith can come to New York, it would be a very good addition. The man stood out in his rookie season, averaging 12.1 rebounds. It's not easy for a rookie to do this. Before him, only Abdul-Jabbar had such impressive results in the 1969-1970 season. As a result, Smith was named to the 1981 NBA All-Rookie Team.

In addition, in the 1985-86 season, he was the league's offensive rebounding leader.

Louie's way of building this Knicks is based on the Bad Boys Corps. If he can get Smith, it will be a perfect complement. This person can still average 6 points and 9 rebounds per game. The contribution is not bad.

Not to mention a distant 1994 first-round pick in addition to him.

Before Nelson called the Blue Palace, he must have seriously understood the needs of Louis and the Knicks, otherwise it would not have been so fast and accurate.

Another quotation is more conventional and direct.

Reggie Jackson was McMahon's No. 2 pick last year. He was supposed to trade with the Knicks and send the No. 2 pick. However, Louie is not interested in the No. 2 pick.

McMahon failed to plan, and threatened Louie to use this lottery to win the player that Louie was targeting. This made Louis worried for a while before the Warriors made a choice. After all, he could not believe others. But McMahon's vision was obvious to all, and even he admired it.

Sadly, McMahon got half of it right.

The person in Louie's heart was indeed called Reggie, but his surname was not Williams.

After the season started, McMahon knew he had picked the wrong guy. Williams is a good player and talented, but he is definitely not worth the second pick. He has been injured many times this season, even if the Warriors intend to let him level up.

Nelson even concluded that this person was not of great use, and put him in the transaction.

With a scratched lottery ticket and a future draft pick for the league's best shooter, Louie won't lose either of these two trades.

"Nellie, I didn't expect you to look like a different person after you became the general manager. This deal is so well done." Louie said admiringly, "I now know why we are friends, because you and I are The same kind of people, we are all loyal people."

Louie's words were good, but Nelson felt uncomfortable listening to them.

You say that Louis is eccentric, his tone is quite sincere.

You say that Louis is sincere, but where can there be honest people who say that about themselves?

Those guys who are full of "good, come to uncle, uncle is a good man", which one is not a beast?

A good person needs to be verified by the opposite sex. When he/she sends you a good person card, you don’t have to be humble. In her/his eyes, you are really a good person, but not perfect enough to let you People are moved. Because you are a good person, he/she has to be a bad person, and yes, a good person deserves to be held at gunpoint.

Now Louie felt like he was being held at gunpoint.

Nelson gently pointed the gun at him and threatened: "Are you going to make a deal with me, Coach Lu!?

"Nellie, I dare not say anything else, but I can assure you of one thing."

Whether or not their deal with the Warriors works out, it's clear from this deal that Nelson really wants to deal with him. He is not the kind of person who comes with the intention of taking advantage of the fire. Such a person must have the fetters of "buying and selling can't be benevolent and righteous" with him.

Even if the transaction is not successful this time, we can still contact you next time.

So, Louie gave a rare commitment: "I haven't made up my mind yet, but if I were to trade Dale Ellis, Golden State is the only object I would consider."

"Okay, I'll wait for your good news."

Nelson hung up the phone, but there was a moment of melancholy.

He could feel that the deal was not going to happen.

Louie doesn't seem to have made up his mind about trading Ellis.

blue palace

Sitting in his office, Louie was mulling over which of the deals Nelson offered would be better for them.

What seems more likeable is the No. 2 option, Reggie Williams + first-round pick + first-round pick swap. He is optimistic about the future of Williams. This person can play two guard positions and a small forward. He has comprehensive skills and good health. Although he has a little glass, he will not have so much pressure in the Knicks.

However, the competitive environment is something that Louis must consider.

Come to the Knicks, Williams will not be able to start, and even the difficulty of squeezing into the rotation is hell.

The objects he wants to compete with are Rodman, Cooper, Stevens, Miller~www.readwn.com~ A very talented player, if he can't get the training he deserves in the short term, then nothing more than those results.

water drop;

Concentrating on cultivation will break out in the future;

Become a destabilizing factor in the locker room.

When the flank is already saturated, it is absolutely irrational to introduce another flank.

So, Larry Smith, want him?

Send out Ellis and straighten Miller, even if he is just a rookie and still adapting to the NBA's three-point line... In this way, the Knicks' lineup can be said to have no shortcomings.

For some reason, Louie is not happy at all, he has already got the best offer.

He walked out of the office and asked Zhao Yuanzheng to inform Ellis to come to the office to meet him.

Louie decides to send Ellis, and this decision hurts him because he knows Ellis is a rare good player.
