The One after my Heart

Chapter 9:Revelation (2)

What magic, what witches. As if this was some Harry-potter world. Yeah, right, gimme my wand and flying broom, and I'll get myself out of here! ', thought Kyra to herself sarcastically. Like hell would she believe these two crazy cellmates of hers here.

'They're definitely crazy,' Kyra swore to herself. As if she really would believe in this spirit and other nonsense. No! She had to get out of here before they did something crazier to her. She must've passed out momentarily due to her injury from last night. She probably had a brain- concussion or something. Yes, that was it. Kyra nodded to herself as she went through these thoughts.

Bree was silent on her end all this time, going back to her old self, but she'd never taken her eyes off Kyra as Nisa kept chattering away. She had noticed the defying and unaccepting expressions on Kyra's face even though the latter tried to hide it.

"She doesn't believe you", said Bree as she shook her head at Nisa.

"What?", Nisa was stunned.

"She doesn't even know that she's a witch. I'm sure she thinks we're just crazy. She seems to the type who accepts things with her own eyes.", said Bree gruffly.

"You don't believe what I said?" complained Nisa with a mournful look at Kyra.

Kyra was red-faced and embarrassed, but she immediately responded. "Of course I believe you!" That's right, Kyra lied to the teenager with a straight face!

'I don't want to pass out again by mistake and then wake up to find one of my eyes pricked out by these mental patients! Why-...why did I have to mention the darn pin? And now that stupid woman in the corner just had to point out I don't believe this delusional teenager. Oh dear lord, save me!', Kyra thought to herself as she secretly glared at Bree from the corner of her eyes.

"No, Bree's right. You don't believe me after all. Well I don't blame you, a person in your present situation wouldn't believe such things either. Plus you seem like a person who accepts the truth with your own eyes ", decided Nisa as she looked up and down at Kyra. After a while, she fell silent and looked away and started trying to look around the cell once again, seemingly searching for something.

'She's so young, but she's quite intelligent for her age, thought Kyra to herself. 'Thankfully she didn't lunge at my neck in anger or something. Perhaps it's some kind of rehabilitation centre then? If so, it doesn't explain why this seems like some old dungeon from a horror movie or how I ended up here. They don't seem like drug addicts. Besides, it would not explain why Little Maya is here. Or maybe Bree's just playing along to keep the two girls calm? So it's a case of kidnappers or traffickers, maybe?'

Kyra felt dumbstruck at her present circumstances. But she swore that if she somehow made it out of here, she would make sure the three guys from the night at the bar who caused all of this would suffer like hell. Maybe they were out there, and were the same one's who roughed up Bree as well? She felt so confused.

"Kyra, there ..look there!" shouted Nisa in a low voice urgently as though she had a eureka moment. She pointed with her both arms that were bound. "Do you see that insect on the wall on your right that's crawling towards your leg?"

Kyra was brought out of her thoughts at her neighbour's insistence. 'Now what is she up to?', she wondered with a small wry smile and looked towards a black insect that landed on the wall before it flew heading towards the fallen breadcrumbs between them. It was one of those harmless black insect that were a little bigger than a fingernail. Unless really provoked they were quite harmless.

"Just keep watching. Although these chains restrict magic, this shouldn't seem too difficult to achieve," Nisa reminded Kyra gently as she focussed on the insect completely. She lightly shuffled little Maya on her lap so she could be more comfortable and then with her bound hands pointed to the empty space on the floor between her and Kyra with her eyes closed.

Kyra winced inwardly hoping this deranged teen girl would not smack the poor thing to death.

Oddly enough, to Kyra's surprise, the insect walked straight towards the spot that was exactly under Nisa's palms. 'Well, talk about coincidence', wondered Kyra. 'Should I should pretend to be surprised and say I'm convinced?'

But then right after, to Kyra's disbelief at the next moment, Nisa murmured softly, "Clockwise".

And the insect started walking in circles in a clockwise direction. Looking at Kyra's surprised expression, she gave a small smile and once again softly said, "Now walk counter-clockwise". The black and immediately stopped and started walking in circles but in the opposite way this time.

Kyra had even leaned towards the insect by now, trying to get an even closer look wondering if she were hallucinating or if Nisa had something in her hand.

If it were just this, Kyra would've deluded herself with some logical explanation, but it didn't end here. Nisa even made the insect perform certain tricks like a trained pet where it rolled over, somersaulted in the air and in the end even stood up just on its two legs shakily and pick up a morsel of bread as though it were offering it to her.

Since it was right in between Nisa and Kyra, Kyra could see everything clearly with a dumbfounded expression on her face. It felt like she was watching one of those pet shows where the trainer or owner just had to say the action and the pet would oblige.

"See, I told you. We're witches who've been captured, and everything I said is true.", said Nisa victoriously as she looked at her stunned neighbour with a smug look on her face.

"These damn shackles." She cursed as she complained. It seemed like she had over-exerted herself because her face had turned even paler by now and had beads of sweat rolling down her face now.

"Well done", congratulated Bree on her left with an approving look and then pointed towards Kyra with her chin with a grin. "She looks like she'll probably be spooked for a while though."

Nisa nodded and fell silent after this as she left her new audience to process her thoughts.

'Am I hallucinating? Is my concussion that serious? No, it doesn't make any sense!' Kyra wondered. But no matter what the reason she thought of or came up with, it just seemed to discredit her judgements. How else would have she understood and could speak with them now? She just couldn't get that disbelieving look off her face.

It took a long while, after which Kyra mustered up the courage to ask the same questions once more. Only this time her voice was lower and she seriously took in everything as Nisa patiently replied to her questions with the same answers along with a little more information this time.

Kyra wore a blank face as she took in everything with a serious look trying to digest everything as she contemplated on everything that Nisa was telling her now.

"Yes, witches exist. In fact, all of us are. Which is why we've been kidnapped by stragglers here."

"Who're stragglers? They're more like bandits who traffick young gifted witches for people who practise dark magic usually done through sacrifices."

"Yes, this is the domain of Spratia, which is one of the domains in Ethra. I'm pretty sure that's what you've gotten confused calling it as Asia. Countries? No, we don't have countries silly; we have domains. Five huge domains that encompass our whole world, in fact. It's just your muddled memories I'm sure. Soon as we get out, I'll find a way to cure you, don't worry."

"What spell or trick did I use on the insect? Hmm ...well, I guess you can call it a trick perhaps...but it's more like communicating with it. You see, I'm someone what you call a spirit witch, and so is my little sister; hence my powers are mostly in being able to communicate with all living things around me. Which is why it drove me crazy when I couldn't interact with you. Nothing drives a spirit witch who is unable to communicate with another living being"

"Maya is said to be the gifted one amongst the two of us, though. I'm sure she'll be a lot stronger and talented than I am when she grows up."

"Yes-yes she's alright. She's just exhausted from the blood magic spell earlier. Don't worry she'll be fine soon as she wakes up", said Nisa as she kept on answering Kyra's questions one by one.

After a while, both of them fell silent. Kyra had way too many questions, but right now, she was too muddle-headed to think anymore.

If anything, she was one hundred percent sure that it was definitely one of the two theories that she concluded from everything going on so far --

One, she was seriously injured from the New Year's eve night as she could remember and was perhaps right now lying in a hospital bed in some sort of coma, definitely dreaming of all of this bizarre stuff happening around her.

Two, completely illogical and absurd, but somehow she woke up in a place that wasn't even on Earth.

And somehow, with the passing every second and moment, as time moved on, her second theory seemed to make more sense.

And now, somehow Kyra Walker had a lost look on her face as she wondered, 'Can it be really true and possible that I'm a witch? It makes no sense! What the hell is going on?!'
