The Magician Kunon Sees Everything

Chapter 30: It melts like sugar

At the end of spring, Kunon celebrated his tenth birthday.

My days became so busy that my family celebrated it and reminded me that it was my birthday for the first time.

It had been about three months since he became Zeonly’s apprentice.

The days melted away as quickly as sugar dropped in a cup of tea.

“I’m not so much an apprentice anymore, but more like an assistant.”

“Yeah, that’s right. I didn’t think you’d get this far.”

“Or someone who works as a copyist.”

“Yeah, I guess so. Maybe he’ll charge you for your part-time job next time.”

After taking a break, Kunon drank a cup of tea made by the maid.

I woke up in the morning and did paperwork all day.

I did so until the evening, and from evening to night, I exercised and practiced magic.

Then I went to bed as if I had collapsed.

That’s how I’ve been living these days.

Zeonly is really rough with people, and documents are delivered to him every few days.

Because of this, Kunon, who still lives away from home, is now unable to return to the main building for different reasons.

Zeonly is sending him more and more notes and thoughts about magic reports……, telling him to “clean it up and put it together”.

That’s the reason why Kunon’s room is full of such documents.

To the casual observer, many of the documents are leather bags filled with gold coins.

In fact, to be honest, the things left behind by the royal court magicians, even memos, should be kept out of the public eye.

In other words, they are confidential documents.

As long as the room is full of such things, they should be kept out of sight as much as possible.

That’s why Kunon couldn’t move away from the room anymore.

Basically, the only one who comes and goes here is the personal maid. I’m going to see my family when they call.

“But still, there are a lot of graphics, aren’t there?”

I can read simple characters, but I can’t understand documents with a lot of technical terms.

However, the documents sent by Zeonly contain many pictures.

Some of the pictures made sense, while others made no sense at all.

In addition, many of the letters look as if they have been scrawled, and it is not uncommon for them to be so broken that they cannot be understood.

To be honest, Kunon sometimes has a harder time understanding overly broken and illegible letters than writing clear memorized letters.

“It’s funny, isn’t it, a magician engineer?”

A magician engineer.

This is the role that Zeonly plays as a royal court magician.

He also does the usual earthen magic work, such as making molds and repairing buildings,… but his main activity is to make magic tools for the magician.

A magic tool is a tool that can be moved by the flow of magic power.

It’s not something that can be seen very often, and it’s not widespread because it can only be used by sorcerers. It’s only famous by name.

Zeonly’s goal is to create a magic tool that can be used by ordinary people.

In other words, he mainly uses earth magic to create forms.

And it’s somewhat similar to what Kunon does with his “water ball a ori”.

Zeonly said, “That’s probably why Rondimond brought you and me together.”

Kunon thinks so too.

The more he learned about the role of the magician and the more he looked at Zeonly’s notes, the more he agreed with him.

“I don’t know what’s going on, but if Master Kunon is satisfied, then I am satisfied too.”

“Really? Will you support me?”

“Yes! I’ll support you in your life, so you can work hard and achieve your dreams! I know your talent better than anyone!”

“You’re like a lover supporting an unsuccessful theater actor.”

“Will you dump me if I do?"

“Of course not! I’m devoted to Iko. Let’s get married in the future.”

“Wow, that’s a mouthful. You’re lying.”

They laughed together.

Then they went back to work.

Milica’s visits, which used to be once every two weeks, are now once a week.

She visits once a week now, bringing Zeonly, who ostensibly accompanies her as an escort.

She does her best not to let anyone know that Zeonly has taken Kunon as his apprentice.

Kunon doesn’t know much about it, but there is some sort of problem with the succession of the throne.

“Hello, my little apprentice. Have you finished your paperwork?”

Zeonly, who had been in a good mood for the past three months, came in.

“I’m about halfway there.”

“What? Oh, come on, get a grip.”

I’m not sure if I’ll be able to finish the additional paperwork that’s coming in later.

The words were quite unreasonable, but I was used to such unreasonableness by now.

“Did you see my message?”

“……you should stop writing things like ‘I love you, master’ or ‘I respect you’ on the edge of your paperwork. I’m so embarrassed when I show it to Rondimond and the other magicians.”

“Getting along with your apprentice? That’s nice. Let’s show them.”

“Some people are harassing me. They wanted to make you their apprentice.”

“Milica, Her Highness. Come in.”

“Hello, Mr. Kunon.”

“Hey……. you’ve got some nerve ignoring your mentor.”

The usual three people have been coming.

Milica, Zeonly, and the knight Dario, who is both a guard and a watcher.

For the past three months, these three people have been coming to me.

And I’m sure these three will continue to come once a week in the future.

Without much greeting, Zeonly and Kunon began their experiments.

There are so many things they want to try, and this time, when they can only meet once a week, is incredibly precious.

– Paperwork is a way of education that is unique to Zeonly.

Make them understand and chew on the meaning and intent, and write it down.

This will help them remember well.

Since we only meet once a week, we can’t take time for classroom learning.

That’s why I give Kunon the knowledge in this way.

Well, I guess it’s also a hassle to write it out.

“What do you think of this?”

“I think there’s too much pressure. I think we need to strengthen the container or reduce the amount of magic we put into it to make it work.”

“But it won’t work properly without this much magical pressure.”

As proof of this, I can properly follow Zeonly’s story without saying much.

Three months ago, an amateur who didn’t even know what a magician was, was able to talk to an expert now.

This is the result of education.

As for the amount of work, it’s so unreasonable that I want to be paid part-time.

“Okay, let’s give it a try. You take care of the internal mechanism.”

“Yes, sir.”

Zeonly uses earth magic to create the mainframe of the container and then uses Kunon’s “water ball a ori” to improvise and assemble the internal mechanisms.

Zeonly can make the “hard parts” but not the “flexible parts”.

That was Kunon’s role.

Milica faced Dario, away from Kunon and the others who were absorbed in their experiments and prototypes without looking aside.

“I’m looking forward to working with you!”

“Yes, it’s my pleasure.”

They both took their wooden swords and held them up.

– Three months ago, Milica started to do the best she could.

Her goal was to graduate at the top of her class from the high nobility school she had just entered.

In order to achieve this goal, she began to study even harder.

She also began to study martial arts, including swordsmanship.

She wanted to be able to protect Kunon in case of an emergency.
