The Mafia's Queen: Entangled With A Psycho.

Chapter 59 - Fifty Eight: Warmth

" You want us to lie to your cousin? He will go berserk and kill everyone in the mafia. We will all lose our heads." Alfonso said, a slight shiver running down his spine as he imagined what his crazy boss would do when he found out.

" How long do you think we can hide what happened tonight from Leo?" Damien asked, looking deep in thought. His hand gently stroking his clean shaved chin and his eyes as calculative as ever.

" At most twenty four hours." Alfonso answered, despite knowing Leo would probably find out a lot sooner. Nothing stays hidden from the mafia king. Nothing. Especially not when it involves the woman he is affectionate with.

" Shit! Then we have to make do with that. Leo wouldn't kill me so easily, I'm family. If he could then he would have done it a long time ago." Damien said, raising his eyes to the sky in relief. This was one of the reasons he was glad to be a Kane, it always saved him from getting executed by Leo. " What my grandfather dearest doesn't realize is that if war eventually breaks out, there would be a power surge. People would try to take power away from the Kanes and God forbid that ever happens, but Leo might end up losing his title if he isn't careful enough." Damien opened the door to his car and stepped in, leaving Alfonso there looking like a frightened confused puppy.

Once Damien got into his car, he immediately started it and accelerated on the road.

Still driving, Damien's lips curved into a vicious smile that made him look even scarier than the devil.

He had been waiting for Lazzerro to make a mistake that would cause him his life for so long and now that it had finally happened, he would use it to his own advantage.

Being a Kane, Damien wasn't just as cunning as Leo but also a green snake in lush grass. An opportunist just like his father and grandfather. The trait was in their bloodline.

The Kanes were a bunch of conniving backstabbers, and Damien, being very good at it, easily surpassed the rest of his family in their own heritage.

To Damien, Lazzerro's supposed payback, his mistake, was just a gateway. A starting point for him in his righteous crusade, his conquest, one that even Leo wouldn't stop him from accomplishing.

Once Becca reach her apartment building, she raced up to her penthouse so fast, it looked like she was being chased by something. She got to her door, opened it and quickly slammed it shut behind her, before leaning on it to catch her breath.

Becca's body slid down the door and sat on the floor, hugging her knees to her chest. Her face wet from the tears that fell on it, slowly feeling herself breaking down to pieces.

She was beyond scared right now, petrified even. She couldn't believe she was just at the verge of being shot dead but still managed to make it out alive.

Becca trembled when she remembered the cold tip of the gun on her.

It had been terrifying, a near death experience was the last she ever expected to happen to her.

Recalling the angry look the gunman had on his face, Becca was sure she was as good as dead, well until that mysterious man showed up from nowhere and saved her.

She knew he was the one who killed the two assassins but the question here was why?

Why did he look so much like Leo? Were they related? Brothers?

Many questions flooded Becca's mind as she remained on the floor trying to soothe her fast beating heart.

'Who the heck could he be? Why was he there when I was attacked?' Becca asked herself, hoping that the answers would present themselves to her but the only thing she got was a realization.

Becca realized she knew absolutely nothing about the man named Leo Kane. The man who had done nothing but break through her walls and invade her mind with thoughts of him for the past few months. Other than his name, she knew nothing about him. Absolutely nothing and it kinda hurt.

Leo was the only man Becca had ever had feelings for, the only man who had made her feel things she never thought she could feel. Her first love and yet she knew nothing about him.

It sucked, hurt even.

But she still couldn't blame him though, she was the one who pushed him away.

Perhaps they would had gotten to know each other better if she wasn't so bent on pushing him away, if she would have given him a chance and let him in.

After sobbing on the floor for awhile, Becca got back up on her feet and wiped her tears.

She was grateful to the man who saved her from the clutches of death, but knew the chances of him saving her again were slim.

For whatever fucked up reason that concerns Leo, people were after her head and she knew that if the matter was as serious as it looked, then this wouldn't be the last assassination attempt she would be getting. She had to be more careful from now on.

Becca contemplated telling Regina and Johnny about what happened but quickly went against it, pushing the thought away to the farthest part of her brain.

Telling her family about it would be chaotic, they would definitely freak out.

Johnny would recruit a heinous amount of bodyguards just to follow her around and Regina would track down whoever was targeting her and set the fucker on fire. While her father, Nathaniel, though was a peaceful and quiet man, was still as violent as his wife.

If Nathaniel was to find out about the attempt on his daughter's life, he would kill the culprit's family members one by one, and make it look like it was all an accident. And Becca, knowing fully well what her family was capable of, chose to stay quiet about it. Aside from being completely petrified, Becca didn't fancy the idea of being followed by bodyguards and didn't want someone's family to suffer for something that wasn't even their fault.

Becca dragged her feet to her bedroom and sank her body into the softness of her mattress, not even bothering to take a shower first. She had been too shaken by her near encounter with death and still visibly trembling to even remember what a shower was.

The next day, Becca, who was still feeling petrified, decided to go to work to supervise a photoshoot at her company. Choosing to ignore her fears of leaving the apartment, Becca got dressed and went over to Atlas.

Just as usual, Navaya came to Becca's office for a quick gist session and came back again to take her out for lunch.

Becca also thought about telling Navaya what happened but later decided against it. She knew how much of a drama queen Navaya could be, and didn't want to scare the shit out of her. So Becca realized it was best to keep it to herself, at least for now.

And as though it had become a habit, Johnny stopped by at Atlas again in the name of hanging out with his sister when in reality he was just there to be with Navaya, to torture her with his sexiness.

Talk about a handsome devil.

Becca had noticed how frequent Johnny visits to Atlas was becoming but still chose to ignore it, telling herself it wasn't her business and that he was a grown man who could do whatever he wanted with his time.

She also noticed the tension between Johnny and Navaya wasn't that bad anymore. Navaya wasn't all quiet anymore like she was during his previous visits and was getting more used to having him around, feeling more comfortable even.

And the strangest thing about Johnny's frequent visits was the secret dagger glares Navaya usually sent to him, looking like she wanted to bite him. While Johnny, on the other hand, just sit there looking completely unfazed by her glares, smiling like he was the happiest man in the world.

Once it was 6:00pm sharp, Becca started getting ready to leave the office, not caring whether she finished all the work she had to do for the day or not.

Yeah, work was important and all but Becca wanted to live. She loved her life and didn't want what to relive the experience she had the other day.

Becca thought about things and decided on going home earlier than she usually did before, realizing that one of the reason she was targeted was because she also got off work late. So Becca chose to rectify that for the most obvious reason, she liked her skull free of bullet holes.

Becca then sauntered to where her car was parked in the parking lot and drove it out of her company's premises, heading straight to the highway. She made sure to avoid taking different routes this time and stuck to the one she was used to, despite it being known for its frequent traffic jams.

But on the bright side, no one could possibly point a gun at her when she was surrounded by many people, right? Surely not.

After surviving the hassle of trying to move her car in a sea of vehicles, Becca, yet again, followed a crowded street that she was very familiar with and before she knew it, she was already approaching her apartment building.

Becca's blue Lamborghini rolled smoothly into it's usually parking space and without wasting an extra second in the parking lot since it was kinda lonely, Becca hastily walked into the building. Feeling thankful that she was able to get through the day without being attacked again.

She took the elevator to the top floor and once the doors opened, she quickly jumped out of it, heading straight to her penthouse.

Looking both sides as though about to cross a road, Becca's eyes cautiously monitored her surroundings to make sure no one was trialing behind her or possibly hiding somewhere, getting ready to give her a surprise attack.

Taking very careful steps, Becca reach her door and slid her key into the keyhole, opened it and stepped in before quickly turning back to lock it thoroughly. Unaware that she wasn't the only one in the apartment.

Just as soon as she finished locking the door, heaving a sigh of relief that she was finally safe now, a masculine voice rang in the room.

" Hey"

Becca gasped on hearing the familiar voice, her heart beating so fast, she was afraid it would pop.

'Oh God, could it be him? No, it couldn't be, why would he be here? But the voice though, it had to be him.' Becca's head began to spin, her leg slightly shaky as she stood by the door, her back still facing the man in the living room with her.

She inhaled a lung full of air to calm her nerves down and relax her throbbing pulse.

Even without looking, Becca still sensed the aura of the man in the room. It was familiar, dark. Sexy. The sexiest of them all.

Despite still having some doubts, Becca was almost completely sure she knew the man in the room with her. That he was who she thought he was.

She then heard footsteps approaching her. His footsteps.

" Come here, Becca. Don't be shy." The man's voice sounded again, clearly all Becca's remaining doubts in an instant.

'It was him. He was really here, with me. He really came back to me.' Becca said in her mind, a smile stretching her lips as she spun on her heels to look at him.

" Leo?" Becca breathed, turning around to see Leo in his full glory standing just three feet away from her.

His lips curved into a welcoming smile as he spread his arms apart, beckoning her to come closer to him. Becca, who was still shocked by Leo's sudden appearance, quickly snapped out of her trance and ran into in his opened arms.. Being enveloped in his embrace and feeling the warmth she had craved so much, the warmth she had missed for weeks.
