Chapter 12: Serendipity

Li Taiyi was highly respected and accomplished in the imperial medical center. Originally, he was only responsible for serving the emperor, but because the emperor doted on his younger brother, he assigned Li Taiyi to exclusively serve him.

“Taiyi, how is she?” Rong zhen was so anxious about a woman for the first time in his life that he felt restless and uneasy, like ants were eating away at his heart.

“I have already administered the needle. The girl’s condition has slightly improved, but the poison has already entered her bloodstream. To clear the poison out, it will take some time.” Li Taiyi replied.

“What kind of poison was on the needle?”

Rongzhen should have been the one lying in the bed right now, but due to a twist of fate, it was Gu Yunru!

Rongzhen was filled with regret and furrowed his brows.

Li Taiyi humbly replied, “This poison is most likely from the venom of the scorpion, the leader of the five poisons. The girl is experiencing symptoms of fever and chills, and when the rooster crows at sunset, we must use other poisons to attack the poison. I just don’t know if the girl’s body can withstand it.”

Gu Yunru could faintly hear their conversation and couldn’t help feeling miserable. She had just arrived and didn’t expect to… heavens, was she going to die again?

Then, she saw a blurry light engulfing her, and her body felt an unprecedented tearing pain, as if something was biting her flesh…

It was dawn at the Gu residence.

“What’s going on with Yunru? She didn’t come back all night, and nobody sent word.” Madam Gu and Master Gu sat in the main hall, waiting for news from the prince and Gu Yunru, but nothing had been heard from either of them.

“Ahem, Master, isn’t it suspicious that an unmarried man and woman were alone all night?” Madam Gu fanned the flames, but fortunately the two already had a marriage engagement. If not, it would be quite scandalous.

“Don’t talk nonsense. Yunru is an honest child and wouldn’t do anything improper. Moreover, Yunru and Prince Zhao already have a marriage engagement. This marriage will have to happen, whether they like it or not.”

“Master is right. Master is always reasonable.”

Madame Gu laughed complacently, but quickly restrained her smile.

“Master,Madam something’s wrong with eldest Miss!” A servant rushed in, trembling with fear. Madame Gu’s eyebrows twitched. Could something have really happened? Or perhaps Prince Zhao is displeased with Gu Yunru and had her chopped in half in a fit of anger.

“What happened exactly? Why are you so panicked?” Madame Gu pretended to be calm, but her heart was already racing.

“Last night, Miss was attacked by an assassin and poisoned. She is now being treated at Prince Zhao’s mansion.”

“An assassin?” Master Gu raised his thick eyebrows, looking quite worried.

“Yes, sir. But the assassin is still at large. Prince Zhao’s people came to pass on the message, asking you and Madam not to worry.”

Master Gu waved his sleeve, and the servant quickly withdrew.

At the Qiu Shui Pavilion, Gu Junyao, the second daughter of the Gu family, was leisurely swinging on a swing, feeling the wind blowing in her face. She caught a glimpse of a shadowy figure behind her and sighed slowly, “Come out. I saw you a long time ago.”

Gu Junyue grinned and stuck out her tongue, standing in front of her, “Sister, I have good news to tell you.”

“What good news? Did Gu Yunru not return all night and was tortured to death by that demonic prince?” Gu Junyao dreamt of such good news. Gu Yunru had teased them sisters, and she had to pay the price.

“No, no. But she’s not far from death. The servant said she was poisoned by a scorpion and is in critical condition.”

“Really? No wonder she didn’t return all night. I thought that madman had taken her and ravaged her.”

“Sister, you can’t say that. If that little slut is tortured to death by that madman, won’t you be next?”

Don’t be fooled by Gu Junyue’s usual disorganized behavior, she actually sees through this matter clearly – Gu Yunru must not die!

“Yes, why didn’t I think of that? If she dies, won’t I be the next victim? She can’t die, she absolutely cannot die!”

Gu Junyao silently prayed to the Buddha, her hands clasped together in a devout manner, holding Gu Junyue’s hand and saying, “Shall we go to the palace and see how she’s doing now?”

Gu Junyue was initially eager to join in the excitement, but at the thought of the gloomy face of the Demon King, she trembled all over.

“But what if the crazy king has an attack? We won’t be able to defend ourselves.”

“What’s there to be afraid of? Even Gu Yunru hasn’t died, he won’t harm us.”

“That makes sense.”

Gu Junyao thought to herself that she could also visit her beloved sister under the pretext of curiosity, which would be a face-saving gesture.

The scene shifts to the Zhao Palace.

Gu Yunru’s face was as pale as wax, and she lay on the bed in extreme agony. She had already endured these four hours of torment, but her condition had not improved.

“What the hell is going on? Physician! Didn’t you say that using poison to fight poison could save her life?”

Rong Zhen’s eyes flashed with killing intent, staring straight at Physician Li, who trembled slightly. He had never seen such a strange phenomenon before, with the patient’s body showing signs of rejection.

“Your Highness, please calm down. Miss Gu’s pulse and heartbeat have returned to normal, but the poison is still unable to be expelled…”

“What? Are you telling me that you are helpless?”

The cold lines on Rongzhen’s face became even more chilling, and his simple words gave Li Taiyi an unprecedented sense of crisis.

Frightened, Li Taiyi could only kneel down with a thump and kowtow to him, saying, “My lord, this poisonous blood can only be transferred to another body.”

“That’s easy, just grab someone.”

With that, he looked at the maid standing at the door.

“No, the body used must have the same constitution as this young lady, or it will be rejected.”

“Then how can we tell if it’s rejected?”

“Check if the blood merges.”

“Never mind, I’ll do it myself.”

Upon hearing this, Li Taiyi trembled as he stood up and took a small white porcelain bowl and some water.

To Li Taiyi’s surprise, the blood of the young lady and the lord could indeed merge together.

“My lord, the blood has merged, but this concerns your own life and safety. You cannot take risks.”

“The person lying here should have been this king. Sacrificing a little for her is nothing. Hurry up and change the blood, don’t waste time.”

“…”.

Li Taiyi tried various methods to transfer the toxic blood from Gu Yunru’s body into Rong Zhen’s body. After about the time it takes to burn a stick of incense, Rong Zhen’s face turned blue and his lips became purple, showing clear symptoms of poisoning.

“Your Highness, you absolutely cannot continue with this. Your body cannot endure it anymore,” Li Taiyi said, trying to stop Rong Zhen. It’s not often to see someone like him who is so self-sacrificing.

“I’m not dead yet, are you cursing me?” Rong Zhen replied.

“No, I dare not,” Li Taiyi answered.

He bent down and continued to drain the toxic blood from Gu Yunru’s body. When the incense burned out, Rong Zhen collapsed straight onto the bed.
