The Legendary Junkmaster

Chapter 75: Testing Loyalty (5)

The trio decided to share a room since each of the rooms was spacious enough for each of them to have their own space. It was quite a thrilling experience for them when they felt the gigantic structure raising into the air. Unfortunately, there were no windows for them to enjoy the view from that height.

Adam and Dani excitedly discussed what they would experience as part of their training. During the flight, there had been a few information sessions explaining things to the new entrants. Such as focused training to raise their control over their abilities as well as general fitness. How to survive in specific environments and how to coordinate as a team.

Their basic training alone would take a year, while their second year would focus on specialities unique to specific regiments in the Guardians. Of course, they would only receive more information on that once they made it halfway through basic training.

"I can't believe we're really here." Dani chuckled as she sprawled across one of the couches.

"I know. I was worried I'd be stuck as a butcher for my entire life." Adam sighed as he accepted that he had actually made it out of that fate.

"Well, I don't know what to say, to be honest. You two know what to expect, but there's nobody here that can give me any information on what to expect." Jason half groaned. "I just hope I'm not stuck hammering down nails or something for an entire year."

Adam and Dani chuckled together at Jason's worries. Neither of them believed that would happen to Jason. If that was all it would be, then Rust would have been better off leaving him in Highrise. Both of them were actually excited to see what Jason could do once he actually received some training.

Jason, on the other hand, was not worried about the training itself. After all, his Power would allow him to unlock the necessary knowledge and skills to create many things. So there was no need for him to spend years studying the theories and research. He just wanted to know which direction he had to take with his skills to save his own life!

"We'll be arriving in Bridgend soon. Please prepare your luggage and make your way to lecture theatre." A woman's voice suddenly sounded from behind the room's door.

Jason shared an excited look with the others. Although, he was actually worried that he would soon be found out. After all, he had chosen to gamble on Rust, faking the information that she fed them. Not that he had any other choice anyway. Jason had explored some of the structure, but he did not find anything that could be used to survive the fall to the ground even if he did escape.

The trio grabbed their bags and quickly vacated the room. They knew precisely where the lecture theatre was due to the information sessions that they had attended. Once everyone had gathered and taken a seat, a captain in the Guardians entered the room.

"Good, everyone seems to be here. I'm proud to introduce you to your new home! Bridgend!" As the Captain said that, the wall behind him began to slide open.

The wind rushed into the room as everyone present got their first sight of what it was like to fly through the air. However, the view of the capital took their breath away!

A wide river was below them that spanned a width of several times the footprint of Highrise. A giant rusted bridge spanned the entirety of it. Wherever sections had fallen away, the people living there had plugged the gaps with whatever they could find.

Jason spotted earthen pillars that had been raised from the river to provide it with extra support. Steel beams that obviously were not part of the original design linked everything together to provide a sturdy foundation.

Buildings of all sizes spread from end to end of the old world structure, and platforms had been tacked on to extend the width of the bridge for more living space whenever it was needed. However, Jason was entirely focused on something else.

It was currently that time of day where the world was just starting to turn dark. However, Jason could unmistakably pick out a ton of glowing lights all throughout the city. 'It's just like my torch but brighter! They're using electricity!'

Jason's gasp had been especially loud, and all eyes fell on him. However, the Captain smiled when he saw Jason's reaction.

"It seems that Lady Rust was right about you! You can already appreciate the beauty of Highrise, right?" The Captain chuckled while everyone else appeared confused.

"Yes, sir, but we didn't have anything like this in Highrise. I didn't expect to see an entire city that uses this." Jason answered while tiptoeing around, saying anything that would reveal too much.

"It's fine, Mr Wright. Electricity is no secret in Bridgend. Everyone here will soon learn about it. I suggest you all take your seats. We're about to receive a visitor!"

Those who had jumped up onto their feet in surprise embarrassedly sat back down. In the distance, a metal box rose up from the city and flew towards them. Jason frowned when he saw it coming their way. 'Don't tell me that Rust was actually telling the truth!'

Even Syssie was frowning heavily as they watched it catch up to them and dock against the now open wall. The door on the new structure opened up, and a young man stepped into the lecture hall. He seemed to be irritated to be there as he glanced around at those present.

"Let's get this over with. Form a line, quickly now!" The man did not even introduce himself as he urged everyone to hurry up.

Jason's palms became sweaty as he tried to find a place near the back of the line, but Dani grabbed him and pulled him towards the man faster than a line could be formed.

"Give me your hands!" The man was blunt as he reached out for Jason.

Having no other choice, Jason gulped as he placed his hands in the man's grip. As soon as he did so, he felt a strange haziness wash over his mind! He had the vague sense of being asked questions, except his subconsciousness, was answering for him. As the haziness withdrew, Jason's eyes met the man's steely gaze.

"I know what you're hiding!"
