The Legendary Junkmaster

Chapter 58: Nest (3)

Jason listened in disbelief to his Gramps's story. After all, it was just too unbelievable! That sort of discovery was potentially life-changing for a scavenger!

"An untapped old world structure? Are you sure?" Jason's tone was excited as he asked that question.

"Positive, the door shows no signs of ever having being opened. I've checked up on it regularly in case someone else happened to discover it." Harry nodded his head with a solemn expression as his tail swished through the air behind him, betraying his own excitement.

"That's incredible! But why did you wait until now to mention it?" Jason's eyebrows twitched with suspicion. He knew his Gramps too well.

"About that," Harry sighed heavily as he looked Jason in the eyes. "I didn't have a way to open the door before, so there was no point… However, with this tool of yours, it might just be possible!"

Jason finally understood the whole picture. In fact, he even guessed that Harry probably would have never have told him about it if he was not capable of opening the door. Harry was that kind of person that would rather let that treasure remain buried if he could not lay his hands on it himself!

'Damn geezer! You would have taken this secret to your grave!' Surprisingly, Jason did not feel angry about this fact at all. It was just his Gramps's nature. He was too used to it by now for it to have much of an impact on him. There was just one thing that troubled him.

'I can't take the Arbalest or Viper with me. I wouldn't put it past Gramps to turn me in for that bounty!' This fact left Jason feeling frustrated. It meant that he would have to make do with the Riot while providing harry with a Primal.

'The good thing is that this place might turn out to be the perfect spot to set up my hidden workshop!' Jason's eyes practically glistened as he thought about that. He could only pray that there were no hidden dangers within the structure.

There was no telling what the humans from the old world might have left behind! "When should we set out?"

"Right away!" Harry replied eagerly, causing Jason to frown. "Every second it sits there unclaimed represents a risk! What would we do if someone comes across it and busts it open while we discuss the damn thing?"

Jason had to admit that Harry had a point. They had to claim its hidden treasures as soon as possible! It was a miracle that nobody else had found it so far as it was. So why tempt fate?

"Right, you go home and grab anything we need. I'll sort out anything from the store that might be useful!" Jason failed to hold back his own excitement as he blurted those words out.

Harry grinned like a madman when he heard that response! 'I always knew he was just like me at heart! The boy clearly admires me so much!' Harry rushed off to complete his end of the preparations as Jason gathered up some of their stock to take with them. 'Hm, maybe I should bring some compressed gas with us? It might come in handy.'

Jason hesitated for a moment before storing the container that held the remainder of the gas in the bag along with everything else. Jason paused as he was about to leave the workshop, and his eyes darted to a box in the corner.

'It should be fine… Right?' Jason bit his lip nervously. 'It's only Gramps and me anyway. That alone can't reveal anything.'

Jason moved to the box and pulled out the prototype handheld torch he had created before installing them in his outfit. 'This will definitely be helpful down there!'

Less than half an hour later and the pair met up at the town gates. Harry had already registered their departure and paid the necessary fees. It was clear he did not want to get held up any longer! He acted like a kid as he practically skipped down the broken road on the other side of the rusty car walls.

Jason chuckled helplessly at that sight. It was a rare thing to see Harry in such high spirits! But that just proved how big of a deal this expedition was!

"Jason… If this place really holds stuff leftover from the old world, then it could be priceless for us!" Syssie whispered in excitement as she floated along beside him.

'Of course, it would be priceless! We're bound to find things that nobody has seen in a long time!' Jason chuckled. He was surprised to discover that Syssie was just as excited as they were!

"No! You idiot! Think about it! If everything is untouched, there's a good chance we can find better components for my implant!" Syssie practically squealed as she said that.

However, Jason froze in place for a moment before walking on in a daze. 'Shit! You're right! I never thought about that!'

Jason's mind began to race as he considered that he might be able to buy himself more time by exploring this place! The fact that his Power would kill him over time if he did not get it under control had always been a constant source of fear for him.

The problem was that neither of them had the first idea of what they needed to upgrade Syssie to buy them more time. However, the vault just might hold the answers they needed! Since Syssie had been created with leftover technology from the old world, the most significant gain they could get from this was information!

Jason suddenly had three reasons to be excited to explore this hidden place. He could only hope that it did not turn out to be a dud, and his Gramps had misjudged it. 'As long as I get enough information to plan out my skills, that will be a huge win! I can't wait to see for myself how an intact structure should look!'
