10. An Excellent Name

Translator: Shirley-Zou

At school, Huo Xiu had a happy time and an unforgettable memory.

These memories were sweet, but also bitter.

Even if it was the sweet taste of the watermelon, it also added a hint of bitterness to her memory.

She was easy to be happy, for which one reason was that she could sit in the classroom and listen to the teacher, and the other was that she had a good friend, Wen Ziyang.

The little boy was carefree and he laughed and joked every day as if he had nothing to worry about.

It also affected Huo Xiu, who smiled more and more frequently.

There was no one to pick up Huo Xiu, so she had to go to school by herself.

She could walk with Wen Ziyang for a short time on the way. She had a companion.

What made her happy was that she didn’t have to wear countrified clothes anymore, which changed into the school uniform. Although it was still a little old and not as beautiful as Huo Xue’s, she still cherished it. She cleaned and ironed it every day, so it was always with the fragrance of washing powder.

But whenever Huo Xue passed by her side, she would still feel self-abased.

Huo Xue’s uniform of the noble school was very beautiful, which added to her nobleness. When others passed by her, she would keep her chin up with the pride of a princess.

Huo Xiu had managed to hide her envy deep down long ago. She wore her favorite school uniform, which was large and loose but added a unique flavor to her, and her small face became more and more lovely.

But she seldom met Huo Lang. However, she had figured out the time when he would get in and out of the villa. Sometimes, she would hide at the entrance of the staircase and secretly cast glances at him.

Sometimes she would be disappointed if she couldn’t see him. She would seek opportunities to go out again and again, hoping to see that familiar figure.

When she occasionally met him, she would show a happy smile even if facing his cold face. Then she would be happy all day long.

The happy days slowly went away, and the summer vacation was coming.

She didn’t see Huo Lang, and Huo Xue disappeared as well.

When she secretly listened to the conversation between the servants, she found out that Uncle had taken Huo Xue to travel abroad.

She had never been abroad. She didn’t know which country they had gone to or whether it was far away. She didn’t know if she could see Uncle during this summer vacation. Huo Xiu was getting more and more disappointed while expecting.

But she could always think of ways to make herself happy, and her life was very fulfilling.

Wen Ziyang would come to play with her. Although he couldn’t enter the magnificent villa, he might be accompanying her outside to catch cicada, pick wild flowers, and fish in the pond.

Sometimes, she would also go to Wen Ziyang’s house to play. They planted a lot of watermelons, and sometimes she would accompany Wen Ziyang to pick watermelons.

Counting the days, she realised that the next term would soon begin.

But she still didn’t see Uncle!

One day, Huo Xiu came back from Wen Ziyang’s house and held the big watermelon that Granny Wen had given to her. When she came to the door, she felt her heart skip a beat.

In her sight, Uncle’s familiar car appeared.

Uncle came back!

Huo Xiu was excited and walked fast.

The car door was opened and his slender legs took the lead. The familiar figure made Huo Xiu want to cry. She also ran to him with the heavy watermelon in her arms. She whispered with joy and expectation, “Uncle!”

Huo Xue followed behind Huo Lang and got out of the car. Her white dress made her skin more delicate and fairer. She looked at the watermelon in Huo Xiu’s arms curiously and asked with a tender tone, “Xiu, where did you bring this watermelon back from?”

“It was given by my friend!” Huo Xiu tried to answer with a steady tone.

“You are lying!” Huo Xue said loudly, “Who would be friends with you? Did you steal it from someone else’s house? Huo Xiu, you have brought shame on Uncle!”

Even she was very young, her words were aggressive, which made Huo Xiu a little panic. She hurriedly explained, “No, I didn’t steal it. It was indeed from a friend. I picked watermelons for him and he gave it to me!”

Huo Xiu explained several times in a panic but ignored the weight of the watermelon. The watermelon slid onto the ground, falling into pieces and breaking into several pieces.

The red melon pulp and the sweet juice were sprinkled all over the ground.

“Ah, my watermelon!” Huo Xiu was deeply distressed.

This melon was carefully selected by Granny Wen, and it was especially sweet.

The good watermelon was broken before she could eat, which was like her heart that had been shattered into pieces.

Huo Lang lowered his head slightly and obviously believed what Huo Xue had said. His cold voice could not even dispel the chill, “Don’t steal from others. The Huo Family can’t afford to lose face!”

“Uncle, I didn’t, I didn’t steal anything…” Huo Xiu raised her face, with disappointment and sadness in her stubborn eyes.

She really didn’t steal it!

“He, you finally learned to resist! Huo Xiu, is this your true face? ”

As he expected, how could that woman’s child be so innocent and timid?

She had been pretending all the time!

He wanted to get rid of

the disguise and smash it into pieces.

When Huo Lang and Huo Xue left, Huo Xiu raised her hand to wipe away the tears on her face and picked up a small piece of clean watermelon. She put it into her mouth. It was sweet with the fragrance of the watermelon.

The corner of her lips were involuntarily curled up again.

Between hatred and tolerance…she chose the latter!

Huo Xiu, you would be as excellent as your name!
