94 – Finals

First year semi-final second leg.

As expected, the winner of the duel between Lakar and Ellie was Ellie.

Even though Lacard fought hard, Ellie boasted a unique presence among first-year students.

Befitting the setting of a future great wizard, Ellie subdued Lakar with powerful magic.

“It was definitely a skill worthy of a chief of the Ministry of Magic.”

While eating in the club room after the game. Lakar recalled the game and readily admitted his defeat.

“Right, did I lose for nothing? He is a real genius!”

Aria, who was sympathizing with Lakar’s words while blowing her nose, turned her gaze to me.

“You can still beat Ross, right?”

“Huh?”

I stopped eating the risotto at Arya’s burdensome gaze as she looked at me with eyes full of trust.

Not just Aria, everyone in the club room looked at me and looked at me with anticipation.

“The odds are similar, so I can bet on the general manager, right?”

Feeling pressured by Kane’s words, Aria snatched her answer before she could shake her hand.

“Of course not! Betting on Ellie is a betrayal! I will check everything!!!”

“Okay, then I’ll bet all my pocket money next month!”

“Hmm, then I should call the general manager.”

“I’ll bet Ross….”

As Lakar and Luna got caught up in the current, I had no choice but to put down the spoon I was holding with a sigh.

“Everybody calm down. I’m not giving up already, but it’s better to bet on Ellie.”

At my words, the tumultuous table fell into silence. Curious glances gathered at me. It was a look that demanded an explanation.

I scratched the back of my head and made up for the lack of words.

“I can’t use space magic for some reason.”

“What?!”

At my words, Arya opened her eyes wide and let out a roar that bordered on her scream.

“Why! That kind of fraudulent magic is meant to be used at times like this!”

At Aria’s words, Kane, who was sitting next to her, eagerly nodded her head. Luna also looked at me with her eyes full of curiosity, as if she was curious about the reason in her heart.

I was in a situation where I couldn’t confide in the religious leaders. I had to scratch my cheeks and lie like it was nothing.

“I made an appointment with Principal Nelson.”

I could have told a more plausible lie, but nothing came to my mind. Fortunately, it’s because of the value of the name Nelson. Everyone nodded their heads, assuming it was so without any suspicion.

“Well, the duel must have ended easily because it was so fraudulent.”

Listening to Arya’s words, immediately convinced by the name Nelson, in my heart I thanked Principal Nelson for always helping with lies.

“Space Magic… ?”

Elena tilted her head with a puzzled look on her face as if she hadn’t caught up with the conversation. Come to think of it, few people knew about space magic. Members and Nelson. And Roel, Elly, and Bella.

Ah, I couldn’t forget Estelle, who warned me not to use spatial magic.

Aria answered Elena’s question on my behalf.

“Oh, I bet you haven’t seen Elena before? There’s magic notarized by Principal Nelson. It’s really great magic! I could have easily won with that… Too bad!”

At Aria’s fuss, Elena gave her body a big jump for some reason and stared blankly at me.

“Jeong, are you sure?”

“Yes.”

Elena, as if shocked by my words, shook her body and bowed her head.

“Th-That wasn’t power….”

Feeling awkward at the sight of Elena muttering with her melancholy face, I scratched her cheek.

“The fact that she made it to the finals despite the restrictions is because her manager is so good.”

La Carre looked at me with a strained gaze, nodded her head, and comforted Elena.

“Elena did well enough against her manager.”

“That’s right, even if I had space magic, I would have struggled the same.”

I also added words to Lakar’s consolation.

“Yes…. Thank you.”

Fortunately, as if the consolation worked, Elena’s gloomy face brightened a little.

When I let out a sigh of relief at not having an awkward relationship with Lakar’s fiancé. Avoiding her gaze, Luna tapped her on my thigh under the table.

“Still, I believe Ross will win….”

Unknowingly, the corners of her mouth went up at the sight of Luna whispering softly. She looks at me, biting her lower lip at the sight of her eyes full of trust.

Luna must have remembered something of hers, but she suddenly pursed her lips and started talking gibberish in a stuttering voice, avoiding my gaze on her.

“Yeah, but I don’t mean to pressure you to win, uhm… Being in the finals is great too, so don’t be pressured by my, my words….”

I couldn’t hold it in any longer and couldn’t help but burst out laughing at Luna who wanted to tell me that she supported me even though I was worried that her words would become a burden to me.

“Okay. I’ll do well.”

Luna, muttering unorganized thoughts at my words, put on a pretty smile with her flushed face.

“Yes!”

When I received the signal from the faculty and went up to the stadium, I heard the cheers of the huge crowd that made the floor of the stadium vibrate.

As expected from the last final to determine the top grade, the enthusiasm of the crowd was intense.

As Ellie appeared on the other side of the stadium, I took a deep breath as I made up my mind.

Ross, an under-average, inferior lump expendable, pits a future archmage for the top of the grade.

If I had heard this the first time I possessed it, I would have laughed and said, “Don’t talk nonsense.” Because it was impossible for Ross in the novel.

But there is no Ross in the novel anymore. Only the newly changed Ross remained.

I was able to come to this position thanks to everyone’s help. Nelson and Lawton, and even my precious members.

Just as the ending of Ross has changed, I have a new goal to change the ending of my precious relationships.

The most perfect happy ending created by me as a writer.

That was my goal now.

Today will be a huge turning point between the novel I created and this world I possess.

“Hello.”

Funny enough, my heart reacted first to Ellie’s voice. The setting of Ross still lingered in me.

But I have already accepted that feeling. There was no reason to force it or reject it. Now, it was enough to let this feeling flow.

“Nice to meet you. You never imagined we would meet in the finals, did you?”

Ellie’s obsidian-like eyes stared at the playful words. A strange atmosphere different from the usual bright appearance.

Are you nervous before the final? I moistened my dry lips with my tongue in embarrassment.

Ahead of the finals, I could hear the emcee’s voice introducing me and Ellie, warming up the atmosphere.

Looking at the sound of ‘fighting team fighting!’ Among the cheers of the crowd, it seemed that there were many students who came to cheer for the same combat team. Since it is a confrontation between seniors, it seems that the interest is more focused.

“No, I thought Ross would make it to the finals.”

I couldn’t hide my embarrassment at Ellie’s sudden words. At Ellie’s answer, a feeling of joy began to surge from the depths of her heart.

Black eyes like obsidian stared at me. There were several emotions in that gaze. Ellie’s eyes looking at me were different from before, and things that were pooled at the bottom of her emotions began to float.

My head was confused by the sudden situation. I heard Ellie’s voice filled with emotions in my ears.

“Yes, because I am here.”

I didn’t understand Ellie’s words. Confused emotions have now gone beyond them and into chaos.

Before I could understand the meaning of the words, the host’s countdown to announce the start of the game began.

He shook his head with a deep breath. First, we had to focus on the game.

At the same time as the match started, synthesis magic combining fire and wind elemental magic appeared at the tip of Ellie’s wand, drawing her spell.

A huge ball of fire rushed towards me, distorting the entire atmosphere.

Kwawaang――!!!

With a huge explosion, the synthesis magic was destroyed by the power of destruction. However, its power was so great that the flesh in the palm of the hand holding the spear was about to burst.

Sparks flew in the air. Seeing Ellie swing her wand, I immediately threw her body in front of her.

Kwaaang――!!!

A huge lightning strike hit the spot where I was standing a moment ago. A huge crack appeared on the floor of the arena, accompanied by intense earth-shaking vibrations.

In an instant, she used a series of powerful magics, but Ellie swung her staff for her next magic without a break in her breath.

I bit my lip and stood up. An ice spear bigger than Elena’s was rushing right at me. As she swung her spear to shatter her icy spear, sharp boulders rose straight from under her feet.

I intuitively read her trajectory and raised the window to block it, but I couldn’t fully absorb her shock.

As she fell through the air to the arena floor, the color of the artifact on her chest changed to yellow.

I bit my lower lip and struggled to get up, then raised my head and met Ellie’s gaze. At the end of the wand pointed at me, synthesis magic was already ready to fire, waiting.

“f*ck.”

A huge ball of magic shimmering filled my field of vision.
