62 – Precious Memories

Lawton managed to open his eyes, coughing up blood.

Realizing that the house was on fire due to black smoke and intense heat, Lawton forced himself to stand up, feeling exhausted as if his whole body was drained of energy.

Because it is a stone statue, even if it catches fire, only scorched traces will remain, but Lawton could not leave his beloved Rael alone in the pit of fire.

Rael was always by her side, and she was by her side.

Under any circumstances, he could not give up on her.

Walking into the blazing fire, Lawton coughed up blood, but through the blinding black smoke, he found Rael’s statue with the senses of decades.

Rael’s statue was heated up by the flames, and the skin of the hand she was holding was pressed against the statue, causing intense pain, but Lawton held the statue into his arms even more.

Lawton barely managed to get out of the house with Rael’s statue, coughing up blood several times. His legs gave out and he immediately fell to the cold floor.

Lawton, burned all over his body from a fire, lay on the ground, looking up at the statue of Rael, all blackened and dirty with ashes and burned skin.

Dark clouds hung low in the sky. Lawton suddenly wondered if it was because of the smoke, or if it was going to rain today.

‘Wizard is….’

It was so funny that he wondered if it would rain today, even though he knew he was dying.

As a small dying animal does, Lawton let out a troubled laugh that bordered on a painful moan.

As if falling asleep, my consciousness gradually faded, and my eyelids began to feel heavy against my will.

At that moment, the sound of horseshoe hoofs in Lawton’s ears forced him to hold on to his consciousness.

“Grandpa… !!!”

As if falling off a horse, Ross jumped dangerously and grabbed Lawton’s ugly hand, where his skin was melting.

Lawton couldn’t feel anything in his hands, but he felt Ross’s hands warm.

Lawton, barely conscious of Ross’ voice, struggled to call his name.

“Lo, Ross….”

There were many things I wanted to tell Ross. However, the time allowed to him was only an instant.

Lawton gathered the last handful of mana and created his red thread.

“This… girl….”

Lorton struggled to pass the red thread to Ross. As Ross took it, Lawton was finally able to smile very lightly.

Raindrops fell like tears on Lawton’s face, who closed his eyes with a relaxed expression as if he was in a deep sleep.

“Keep it off!”

Like a wounded beast, an inexplicable scream escaped my mouth. I bit my lip until it bled, but it was a scream that echoed in my chest.

It hurts.

I couldn’t pinpoint where it was, and I felt the pain as if an invisible spear had pierced my chest. He couldn’t even repay Luna for fixing him… There were so many things I wanted to say….

I couldn’t do anything.

If only it was a little faster.

If you hadn’t struggled in the alley… How was it?

As if to wash away my sorrow, the thick raindrops hit my body painfully.

The rain-soaked hair that covered my face was annoying, and my head was dizzy from the surge of emotions.

I took out a cloak from the space storage and covered Lawton from the rain.

I wanted to bring Lawton right away to a warm house, not to this cold land.

The last will Lawton left me tickled my palms, and I couldn’t ignore it.

I got up and, following the red thread Lawton had left, headed for the house where the fire was being extinguished by the ceaseless rain.

Following the red thread through the blackened house, I saw through the ashes that the red thread was connected to a box that was undamaged even in the flames.

Let’s clear the ashes and take out the box. As if waiting, the box opened by itself with a bright light.

Let’s examine the contents, to see if there is even space magic installed in the box. Unlike the small size that can be held with one hand, there was a pocket watch with a huge amount of research materials.

A red thread ran through the pocket watch. Was this the last thing Lawton wanted to leave me with?

With a mixture of questions and curiosity rising from the bottom of my heart. I picked up the pocket watch with the hand holding the red thread.

As if winding a spring, the red thread he was holding was sucked into the pocket watch, and the hands began to move on their own.

Magic energy from the palm of my hand began to be sucked into the pocket watch.

I suddenly felt like the whole world was going round and round and I was falling forever.

My vision was distorted, and the sudden sunlight hurt my eyes. Before I could grasp the situation, I heard someone’s voice next to me.

“Phew, shall we stop here for today?”

A handsome man with a book covered turned his head to look at me. Unable to understand what was going on in the sudden situation, I first greeted him.

“Hello… ?”

I greeted him in a cautious voice, but the man looked at me to see if I couldn’t hear my voice, touched his chin, or straightened his bangs.

I thought that the man’s gaze was not looking at me, so I turned around and saw a mirror hanging on the wall.

Even though I was in front of the mirror, I realized that this was an illusion when I saw the face of a handsome man passing through me.

“If you have finished reading ‘Edio and the Golden Dragon’ by Rotten, can I borrow it?”

A man with a soft expression appeared and said. I was greatly surprised and observed the handsome man in the mirror again.

I thought it was Lawton, and I saw a little bit of it on his face.

Lawton’s youthful appearance was very far from the sad eyes and shabby clothes I knew.

“Tarantra, I have already read it more than four times. You’re the only one in the Mage Tower who hasn’t read it yet, right? Hurry up and read it. Don’t read before bed so that it doesn’t change day and night.”

Lawton warned with a mischievous grin.

I remembered that Tarantra’s name was the green mage lord, and I glared at his face.

A soft impression that instinctively relieves one’s wariness.

When he came to Lawton with Luna, he was a young man with a benevolent face.

Tarrantra took out a book from the bookshelf, smiled softly, and tapped Lawton on the shoulder with his free hand.

“Thank you. I’ll see you. Looking at the decorations, are you going to meet Rael today?”

Tarantra’s question reminded me of Rael, Lawton’s lover.

“Yeah, you can’t miss even one day. Because it’s Rael.”

Tarantra snorted at Lawton’s figure as she held her hands together and looked up at the ceiling, as if she were a devout.

“Oops, you’re already out of your arms. Solo should read a book or something.”

“I was able to meet you because you introduced me to Rael. Thanks friend.”

Tarantra snorted at Lawton’s expression of sincere gratitude.

“Yes yes~ I will stay in the Mage Tower and read a book while the genius wizard goes on a date.”

As Lawton left the room, smiling at Tarantra, who beckoned her to leave, the surroundings contorted like a haze and the background began to change.

Deep in the mountains. Arriving at the little house, Lawton knocked on the door, but no sound came from inside.

“Rael, it’s me Lawton!”

As Lawton was knocking again, he saw someone creeping up behind Lawton from behind.

Looking at the strikingly beautiful blonde haired woman, I realized that she resembled Lawton’s favorite statue.

So, that woman is Lawton’s lover. Could she be Rael… ?

She cautiously approached and hugged Lawton tightly around the waist.

“Here it is!”

“What, are you kidding again?”

Lawton turned around after loosening his hands around his waist, and gave a bright smile full of sincerity that he had never seen before.

Like Lawton, Rael, who met his eyes, smiled brightly and hugged each other.

Even though I was just watching this scene from the side. It was clear how much these two love and care for each other.

“What are you staring at?”

“I thought you were pretty today too.”

Lawton must have been a lover.

The Lawton I met was a person who always grumbled with a phlegmatic voice, but the Lawton of the past was a person who knew how to whisper a sweet voice to his loved ones.

The fact that he learned about Lawton’s new look and that he won’t have a chance to make fun of it in the future made his heart ache again.

Lawton looked down at Rael as he held Rael in her arms with a happy smile.

“You didn’t come here to play around, did you?”

“I’m late because I have to work until tomorrow.”

Rael, who was suspicious of Lawton’s quick reply, gave her a playful expression. She didn’t know it when she was a statue, but Rael’s warm brown eyes looking at Lawton were so transparent. It seemed that he could not hide the sincerity in his heart.

Feeling each other’s warmth, the two silently exchanged glances and kissed each other softly.

“Let’s get married.”

“That sound again!”

Rael, who was being held by Lawton, pinched Lawton’s side.

“Ouch! You know it’s not a joke.”

“Huh, you’re the one to be scolded, Lawton~”

Holding Rael’s hand, Lawton kissed the back of her hand and confessed while looking into each other’s eyes.

“You are the most precious thing to me. Now you have become a more precious person than me. You know I’m serious.”

Rael’s big brown eyes started to get watery at the sincerity in his eyes and voice.

“I know, but you are a great wizard who is evaluated as capable of becoming a green mage lord. Unlike me, who is a commoner, it’s a count family….”

“What does it matter? If I can be with you, whether it’s a green mage tower or a clan. These are things of no value to me. When I’m with you, I can feel myself whole. I finally realized that the reason I was alive was to meet you.”

Lawton continued talking while gently stroking the back of Rael’s hand with his finger.

“Wizards are creatures of curiosity. Whether it’s invention or discovery, it starts with a little curiosity. I have been curious since I met you. Do you think that the moment you are with me is meaningful, or does it come to mind and smile like me. There are so many things I want to ask you, who are full of doubts.”

“If you marry me, you will only lose money…. I want to be selfish… ?”

Rael untied the waist he was hugging and separated from Lawton’s body.

“I don’t want to be selfish by getting in your way Lawton….”

As if he really thought so, Lawton said as if he was frustrated at Rael’s tearful expression.

“I am not asking you to block the road. I want you to walk by my side.”

As Lawton finished speaking, an awkward silence crept between the two. A tear fell from Rael’s beautiful brown eyes and ran down his cheek.

Rael’s wet eyes met Lawton’s gaze, and he approached and gently wiped away his tears with his hand.

“I love you, Rael. If you ask me to pick the stars in the sky, I will do it even if I steal the dragon’s magic.”

“Chi, stupid.”

The two of them pouting their lips at Lawton’s words, but finally facing each other again, attracted by each other’s warmth, was so beautiful that I, who knew the ending of the story, felt so… Looked sad
