42 – Escape

As the masked Ross beckoned, the black and white world changed and a huge throne appeared in space.

Ross walked towards the throne and sat there looking at me. He asked Ross the questions that popped into his head as he looked at me.

“Why did you do that… ? You like Ellie.”

At my question, Ross looked at me with his chin on his chin, and after a while he opened his mouth.

“Have I ever been greedy with others? No, I never had any expectations of being loved by anyone. Because there is only one Ellie in this world who can have such expectations.”

How lonely Ross must have felt when he became a lump of inferiority overshadowed by his older brother. I could only imagine. The details of Ross’ gloomy past weren’t set up by me.

“What could Ross, a loner with no talent and inferiority complex, do for Ellie, the only one who sympathizes with, believes in, and protects him?”

Ross, who was shaking his body with a laugh of deep emotion, raised his hand and pointed at me.

“In the first place, I existed. Wasn’t it you who set Ellie up as a greedy person who could even sell her soul to the devil if she could own it?”

With a giggle, Ross leaned back on the throne in an arrogant posture.

At Ross’s words, I swept his face once and said.

“You’d better take off that mask.”

I don’t know what that mask was, but it looked so different from the Ross I knew.

Perhaps that mask was having some kind of adverse effect on the original Ross.

But Ross was just laughing like someone who had heard a funny joke.

“People are not cross-sectional. Good bad. Black and white. I can’t share like this. Look at Roel, he had a brilliant talent, reached out to the weak first, and smiled brightly at everyone, but he turned a blind eye to his younger brother who was crumbling next to him.”

Ross continued his remarks in a sarcastic tone.

“Ellie? Although he is a good friend who believed in me more than anyone else as a friend and sympathized with me. In the end, she accepted to use me for her own feelings.”

Ross jumped out of his throne and came in front of me.

“There is cause and effect in everything. If Ellie had turned down my offer, I wouldn’t have been able to take advantage of Roel’s personality. He must have looked at Ellie as always and watched as Roel and Ellie were doing well with an inferiority complex.”

Raising his index finger and waving it in front of my eyes, Ross tapped the mask.

“But Ellie used me, and she was used in return.”

“If I had told Elly the truth… !”

Ross sighed as he interrupted me.

“Forgot my settings? No one will love a lump of inferiority complex that is depressed just by looking at it. Why? Did you want to write in a novel that you confessed and were kicked out and your childhood friends grew apart?”

As I frowned at the mocking voice, Ross put a hand on my shoulder.

“Didn’t I give you a choice? Either let go of Ellie or make it yours. Now it’s your choice.”

Ross, who had been talking in a whisper, suddenly disappeared into darkness along with black smoke.

“You did not choose. Luna and Ellie are greedy like Roel. I just wanted to find a way to have both.”

I shook my head and made an excuse at the voice that seemed to be coming from afar.

“It’s not like that. Because of the Geas constraint… !”

“Then why not just kill Ellie?”

“What… ?”

I asked in a stupid voice at Ross’s cool voice that pierced my ears.

“If you stab Ellie with her spear toward her heart from behind, she will die before the constraint has time to activate, and the constraint will be lifted. Then the problem is solved.”

I answered with a trembling voice to the voice of insensitivity that I couldn’t feel any emotion.

“You… After all, it’s not Ross.”

“Why?”

I gritted my teeth at Ross’ voice as if he didn’t understand.

“If it’s Ross who values Ellie. I would never say something like that.”

“Puck puck puck puck!”

Ross emerged from the darkness with a terrifying, strange laugh, clutching at his stomach and shaking his body convulsively.

“No, I am Ross. He just transcended himself.”

Ross, who erased his emotions in an instant, spoke in a low-pitched voice.

“Everything is not static. It flows and mixes and falls into chaos.”

As he said that, Ross, who was fiddling with the mask, asked.

“Roel, Ellie, Bella and Rosalyn. Everyone is trying to use you. Roel grew up feeding on you, and Ellie took advantage of her feelings for herself. Bella tried to use your life, and Rosalyn tried to use your fact that you’re Roel’s sister….”

Ross suddenly brought his face closer and whispered softly.

“What are Nelson and the Messiah members trying to use?”

At that, I punched Ross, but Ross disappeared in smoke.

“Isn’t it strange? Nelson shows interest in Ross, who no one likes, and gives him all sorts of things as gifts.”

“Shut up.”

“What does Nelson want? Your life? Sacrifice? Despair? Or else… Is it chaos?”

As soon as I finished those words, something began to fall right in front of my eyes. Those whose heads explode with a pop and die…. They were Messiah members.

“Nelson could just be a bad boy who wants to get you on the top and then he’ll drop you to the bottom.”

“Don’t talk bullsh*t.”

Responded like a growl to the rising anger.

“Oh, my friend. Even in the world you created, the empty space you didn’t create is filled with things you don’t even know. This is true chaos.”

Reappearing in front of the throne, Ross raised his hands and shouted.

“Stop the sound of a heroic dream! We can be greater than that. Pushing away those who want to take advantage of you, the weak who reach out to you. You can stand on this throne with confidence.”

I clasped my outstretched hands tightly. He whispered softly as if tempting.

“If you want to protect someone dear to you, you need a lot of strength. And I can give you that power If we become one.”

The bloodied Messiah members who had fallen on the floor rose up.

“Manager, help me….”

“Help me, manager.”

“Ross….”

“Please save me….”

I closed my eyes tightly as I saw the members clinging to me with pleading voices.

“Kill Bella. That b*tch is just a stumbling block for you.”

Aria’s voice whispers like that.

“Ellie shackled your ankles. She has to kill that b*tch too to be free.”

I heard Kane’s urgent voice.

“No, you have to kill all the women around Roel.”

Laccar’s serious voice speaks to me as if giving advice.

“So that we can suffocate in loneliness like we do.”

Luna’s sweet voice whispers as if tempting.

I shouted as I shook my head vigorously to get rid of the things that were burrowing into my head.

“Shut up!”

“Puck puck pach puck!!! Are you still out of your mind? This is our true intention!”

I spit out my anger at the taunting Ross.

“No, it was Ross, a lump of gloomy inferiority complex. The reason for that inferiority complex was because he wanted to be a hero like his older brother. He wanted to be a hero helping lesser people like himself, never a monster like you who feeds on others.”

I took out the spear of destruction from the space warehouse.

“Don’t tempt me. You only confuse me.”

Saying that, he thrust the spear of destruction toward the entrance of the dimension.

Ross, whose mask was shattered with a thud, collapsed in front of the throne.

Let’s approach the fallen Ross. He said as the mask, which had been half attached to his face, moved by itself.

“Someday you will regret today. Watching precious things die in front of you.”

I bent down and brought my face closer to the mask that spoke as if it were prophesying.

“No, even if I regret it and fall down, I will rise again.”

Let’s hold the remaining mask on Ross’ face with our hands. I felt a sharp pain in my fingers along with a crackling sound, but I didn’t let go of the mask.

“As you said, you can’t lose precious things in regret.”

As I said that, I ripped the mask off Ross’s face. Something stirred and the mask in my hand began to distort.

“Ah…. Hey I hope you don’t get lost Puck puck pah puch puch puch puch puch puch puch puch!!!!”

As if being sucked somewhere, my voice and mask disappeared and at the same time I was thrown out of the world.

The surrounding space changed, and it changed to the principal’s office that we saw earlier.

With a cold expression that you don’t usually see, Principal Nelson asked me in a low voice.

“What did you see?”

I answered that question with a hard face.

“I met things that seduce me.”

At my words, Principal Nelson looked at me with shining eyes.

“Now do you know why I don’t need this?”

Showing the snow globe, Nelson asked calmly.

“Because Principal Nelson is now an archmage… ?”

In response to my question, Nelson shook his head with a warm smile as always.

“At first, it was really helpful. At the time, I didn’t know what to do, and I didn’t know what the goal I really wanted was.”

I nodded in sympathy with Nelson’s words. Ross, the first person I met there, set the goal for me to go to.

To be a hero who fights for those in need, for those without power and lacking.

Nelson lifted the snow globe from the table.

“I once got so wrapped up in this that I even tried to get rid of my little mistake. When I came to my senses, I became a weak person who lost my dream and avoided trials. Just because an ugly evil exists in the heart, is that person a bad person? No, the important thing is the choice. That is the difference between a person who succumbs to temptation and takes the easy road, and a person who walks into the fire knowing that he will be hurt and hurt towards trials.”

Nelson raised his hand and patted his chest.

“A person who shines a light despite the darkness is a truly courageous person, rather than a person without darkness in their heart. The light already exists within me and I no longer need its help. There are things that seduce you, so there’s no need to be ashamed. You already have the light to overcome it.”

At Nelson’s warm words, I lowered my head and wiggled my fingers. What is this feeling It feels like something piled up in a corner of my heart has melted away and disappeared.

It was not a regret for loss, but rather a sense of coolness in letting go of what had accumulated.

“Principal Nelson…. Why are you nice to me?”

I wonder if what Ross said while wearing the mask remained in his heart. I hurriedly shut my mouth at the words that jumped out without my knowledge, but the words had already been spat out.

“It’s because you’re not enough.”

Nelson answered in a plain voice.

“Because I was a person who was lacking for a long time, the things you need are visible even without looking closely. That’s why I want to help you so that you don’t wander like me and don’t collapse.”

After saying that, Nelson added his words while running his well-groomed beard.

“Of course, all students at the academy are the same. Because I am the principal!”

Seeing Nelson wink in one eye, something rose up in my chest and bit his lip.

Even if I hadn’t known about Nelson’s setup, I would have believed him.

Like Roel, there was only warmth in Nelson’s eyes as he looked at me.

“Just as I reach out to your shortcomings, I hope you can become a person who knows how to reach out to other people’s inadequacies.”

With pale green eyes shining, Nelson smiled.

“And you are doing well enough.”

I couldn’t help but shake my head as my vision turned hazy at Nelson’s voice saying that proudly.

Even though I shed tears, I couldn’t get rid of the smile of joy just a little… Because I was ashamed.
