The Guardians' Throne - The First Magic Swordsman

  Before Zaos could learn anything practical, he had to learn a lot of things regarding the creation of magic weapons. However, that had been helpful in many ways.. and one of them was the fact that he learned Magitek. While he didn't put the knowledge into practice, the theory made him learn that. In any case, Magitek was like giving some sort of life to an inorganic thing. In a sense, he had to mimic the blood vessels that humans have to turn an ordinary weapon into a magic weapon. That was why he saw those lines when he broke one of the used magic tools.

Regardless, that was very interesting, but it was already noon, and Zaos decided that it was time to have some lunch and then move across town to make Milliendra have some exercise.

"Well if it isn't my favorite guests," the plump lady of the inn greeted them with a large smile. "Wait a little bit, lunch will be served shortly."

"Thanks… did something happen in the middle of the night?" Zaos asked. "I woke up and heard some noise, but then I quickly returned to sleep again."

"... It seems that the house of lord Meriton Melvins was attacked," The grumpy middle-aged man replied. "Some thieves attacked the place and killed the whole family."

"What a terrible tragedy… all this happened overnight?" Zaos asked.

"It seems so," the middle-aged man replied. "Aside from a few guards, no one can really say what happened."

Zaos almost clicked his tongue. It was evident that the demons were the ones who killed the Melvins family, and that happened more than a while ago. Despite that, he had allies who hadn't been taken by the spirits of the fallen but still were working for them. Zaos had to confirm it later, but he was pretty sure that those who escaped didn't return…

"Things seem pretty dangerous lately, bandits everywhere and the kingdom still insists on the war," Zaos said.

"I totally agree," the plump lady said while she was serving lunch. "Why are they trying to expand our country if they can't even get rid of the bandits we already have?"

  Zaos was starting to think that some countries would actually try to help the demon god in his mission of world domination. With the right intelligence network, a king could have, it would be weird if the king of the Ashiris kingdom didn't know that one of his subjects isn't doing shady things. So, there is a chance that those beings that took over the bodies of humans had allied themselves with the royal family… Zaos sighed, wondering why there are so many insane bastards in the world.

"I killed all those who saw my face under the hood, so we must be fine for the time being," Zaos said. "That being said, I don't have any more reason to stay in this place."

  It was time to take the next step and find a nice place to live. Milliendra would learn to walk soon, and they needed a place where she could be free to do what she wanted. Still, leaving right now would be too suspicious.

In the end, Zaos decided to wait for a week before leaving the city. Many travelers began to leave as well since no one knew what happened in the mansion, and they were scared. Leaving with all others seemed the right thing to do. Still, Zaos recognized the fact that they needed to keep an eye on the place in case those who escaped returned and did something else. To cause problems for him.

"You have been pretty quiet as of late," Zaos said as soon as they crossed the gates of the city and left.

  Aleni didn't reply, and that was pretty annoying from Zaos's perspective. While it was natural that someone would feel depressed after a failure, it was also a good chance to improve. However, the fact that Aleni always succeeded in her missions was a problem. Putting her life as an assassin behind, she at least took pride that she could use her skills to kill low lives. However, she knew that she only killed guards who probably didn't know what the target was plotting and when she finally found her true enemies, she couldn't do a single thing.

  For the time being, Zaos decided to let Aleni reflect on her actions while he drives and studies the map. He had plenty of time to decide where they should go, but it was quite hard to decide anything without seeing the places with his own eyes.

Zaos noticed that there was a river one hundred kilometers southwest from their current location. It didn't have mines close to it, and there were some small villages along the way… it seemed like an excellent place to build a house and have some peace to do his research.

"Do you know how to fish?" Zaos asked.

"... No," Aleni replied as if that was the stupidest question she had ever heard.

Why would an assassin need to know how to fish? That was a problem since Zaos didn't have the chance to learn that while he was in the North. He probably could do something by using magic, but…

Although those worries were kind of weird considering the life Zaos had until now, it was much better than most of the others he could have.
