Chapter 69: In the early summer breeze

After finishing the classes packed mainly in the morning and completing the bridal training-like courses for female students in the afternoon, there was nothing else to do until dinner.

I could go to the library or study on my own in the auditorium, but I didn’t feel like doing anything like that after what happened earlier.

Without feeling like going back to Sanna and the others, I walked towards a small hill inside the campus. The smell of early summer greenery carried by a slightly warm breeze tickled my nose.

At this moment, I didn’t hate immersing myself in nature like this. Shiny jewels and trendy dresses were charming too, but for now, I just wanted to let myself go with the flow.

“Hey, Lady Quatra?”

Unexpectedly, someone called out to me. Surprised that someone was there, I turned around.

“I can’t believe we meet here like this!”

“Tanatora-san.”

Wolle Tanatora, with his pretty face and round glasses, beamed upon seeing me. He graduated from this academy and went on to the adjacent Royal University. He still comes here occasionally, just like he said before.

I didn’t expect to meet him in a place like this, but it was a good opportunity. I turned to face him and pulled back the gloomy expression within me.

“Thank you for your help the other day. I haven’t properly thanked you, and I’m sorry for that.”

Thanks to him, I was able to make a bouquet even within the school in the Isaac Owen incident. I had once thought to properly reward him, but it was put on hold due to the commotion with Princess Chai.

“Don’t worry about it! I simply received permission from the teacher to pick flowers.”

“It was a great help.”

“It’s embarrassing to be called by Lady Quatra.”

While ruffling his fluffy hair, he shyly smiled. But then, as if looking for an assassin, he suddenly began to glance around.

“Are you alone today?”

“Yes, I am.”

“That’s unusual. His Highness Stratis isn’t with you.”

Upon hearing the name uttered from his mouth, my mood sank once again. I turned my body downwind, trying to send it away with the breeze.

“That person doesn’t have time to concern themselves with me right now.”

“By any chance… is it Princess Slophone?”

Even though Tanatora-san seemed ignorant of rumors and was a pharmacy maniac, he returned my gaze with a sad expression.

“There is a son of a minister who serves as a close aide to His Majesty the King at the university. I am somewhat familiar with him, and I heard the rumors from him.”

“I see. Well, I suppose it’s easy to imagine that many within the royal family would also hope for Princess Slophone and Julian-sama to marry.”

“Um… to be honest, I was worried about you. That’s why I was looking around here to see if I could find you.”

He seemed genuinely worried about me. Both him and Sanna, why are so many good people gathering around me?

Sanna said that what goes around comes around, but I can’t believe that’s really the case.

“It’s really a coincidence that we met here. I’m just lucky! But Lady Quatra seems sad, so…”

“It’s kind of you to worry about me.”

“If I can repay the favor I received from you, I’ll do anything!”

Favor, that’s really overdramatic. I only did it to escape from my guilt at that time, not because I was worried about him.

Being thanked like this is just burdensome.

“You said we were friends, didn’t you? Favors like that don’t matter between friends.”

“Lady Quatra…”

“Besides, I’m not feeling down. I’ve decided to do everything I can.”

When I smiled at him, his expression twisted even more painfully.

“I’m just a Viscount’s son. I can’t win against you, a noble Duke, or Prince Stratis no matter how hard I try. But if it will make you smile, I’ll help you with anything. This has nothing to do with favors.”

“Fufu, thank you, Tanatora-san.”

I came here thinking that I wanted to be alone, but thanks to his kindness, I was saved once again.

As I looked at his hair swaying in the wind, the frayed edges of my heart began to gradually calm down.
