Chapter 60: Just a Little More

He clearly confessed his feelings to me, but I couldn’t answer him. Due to Princess Chai’s appearance, we haven’t been able to exchange words properly for the past few days.

I feel relieved yet restless at the same time. It’s also because of her behavior, which is different from before, that I feel confused.

While watching him guide Princess Chai around the school, I struggled to come up with a name for this emotion that’s boiling inside of me.

“Alise.”

As I walked under the atrium of the school building, someone suddenly pulled me by the hand. I was momentarily surprised but soon understood who it was.

“Julian-sama.”

“I can finally touch you.”

He let out a sigh of relief and leaned his head on my shoulder. I squirmed in embarrassment, but my back was against the wall and I couldn’t move easily.

“I missed you.”

“We see each other every day though.”

“That’s not the same as actually meeting you.”

It was refreshing to hear him sound like he was pouting for once, and I couldn’t help but smile.

“We’re too close. Please, step back a little.”

“I don’t want to.”

“It seems like Julian-sama is acting like a child today.”

Feeling embarrassed, I could only speak words that weren’t cute. When I thought about how if it were “her”, she could say and do things that would make a man happy, my heart twinged with pain.

“Being with Princess Slophone is tiring.”

“You shouldn’t say things like that.”

“Because the queen herself told me to treat her with respect, it’s even more demanding.”

The line about “the queen herself” bothered me a little. I realized later, but Her Majesty didn’t seem to have a very favorable impression of Julian-sama.

Princess Chai is also the fourth princess, so it is hard to say for sure, but one can only speculate that the Queen may be trying to drive him out of Slophone if given the opportunity.

And it seemed like I wasn’t the only one thinking that.

Julian-sama rested his forehead against my shoulder and intertwined his fingers together.

“U-Um, Julian-sama…”

“I won’t be swayed by that person anymore.”

A flat, hushed voice. But his fingertips were warm, and the warmth spread to me.

“Currently, I am engaged to you of my own will. I have no intention of overturning that.”

“…Princess Chai is a charming person.”

Unconsciously, words that even sounded like resentment spilled from my lips. Julian-sama lifted his head, his eyes trembling with a poignant expression.

At the same time, my shimmering gray body swayed in his eyes.

“You know how I feel, yet you are cruel, Alise.”

“It’s just my personality, I’ve always been like this.”

I pouted and looked away, and Julian-sama chuckled softly.

“Alise is cute.”

His voice was sweet, and for a moment, I felt like crying.

I couldn’t help but think about how many more times he would say things like that.
