Chapter 42: Small Senpai with Round Glasses

As we arrived at an unpopular spot, I quickly released my arm from his grip.

“I’m sorry for touching you without permission.”

“Uh…um, that is…”

As usual, the short male student was trembling. His round glasses had a crack on one side, his hair was covered in grass, and his uniform was covered in mud.

“Are you going to leave now? If anything happens in the future with those people, tell me. Just say you’re just a toy for Aliseteen-sama.”

The male student didn’t move and continued staring at me with his cracked glasses.

He doesn’t seem to be trembling anymore.

“D-Did you help me…?”

He still sounded scared, making it hard to hear him.

“Did you not hear me? You became my exclusive toy.”

“B-But you said I could leave now…”

“Yes, I did say that. I’m not in the mood right now.”

Although I tried to sound strict, this male student seemed unexpectedly stubborn. For some reason, he didn’t seem to want to leave this place.

“Duke’s daughter, Quatra. Thank you so much.”

“Why are you thanking me, weirdo?”

“Well, if it weren’t for you, it would have been thrown away.”

He clutched tightly a worn-out book that he had kept safe all this time. Perhaps he endured being kicked around because he was protecting that book.

“What kind of book is it?”

“It’s an old pharmacology book. It’s very valuable, and I had to beg the librarian at the library many times to finally borrow it.”

“I see.”

Even though I asked, I wasn’t very interested.

It’s more important to him than his own life, so it’s good that he didn’t throw it away.

“Oh, by the way, my name is Wolle. I’m the second son of the Tanatora Viscount family, currently in my fourth year.”

“Well, you seem much older than that.”

“Please don’t mind. I’ve never been seen as my actual age before.”

Wolle, the male student who introduced himself, smiled lightly and lifted the bridge of his glasses with his index finger.

“You’re quite strange. Valuing an old book more than your own body.”

“Ahaha, people often say this to me. What’s so interesting about life when you’re always reading books.”

Tanatora-san’s expression was cheerful, but his fingers holding the book were turning white. It was a sign of how tightly he was gripping it.

Did I just make another thoughtless comment?

“People who achieve things are like that. It’s something that others can’t understand.”

“D-Duke’s daughter, Quatra…”

At that moment, Tanatora-san’s face began to shine. His glasses seemed to fog up.

“Well then, I’ll be going. Goodbye.”

“Ah, yes! Goodbye!”

Since he didn’t seem to be leaving anytime soon, I decided to leave. Despite being called a toy, Tanatora-san kept bowing his head multiple times. You could hear him bobbing.

Grass from his hair was fluttering around as a result of the impact.

I didn’t intend to blame the male students who were bullying him or claim that I was trying to help him. After all, I was okay with doing much worse things.

Even if I pretended as if nothing had happened and put on a show of being a good person with a cloak of justice, my true nature couldn’t be changed in the end. However, I couldn’t just turn a blind eye to it either.

“I should have intervened earlier…”

That small murmur was carried away somewhere by the brisk spring breeze.
