60. The Assessment (5)

After the boy had sat on the man’s seat as a matter of course, the hall fell into silence again.

The man with slanted eyes tried very hard to stop twitching his mouth. Then he said to the boy in a sharp tone, “Young Master, you are sitting on my seat. Here is yours.” He pointed to the chair beside the door, trying to make the expression on his face look less scary.

Feng Xi took a glance at the dusty chair. Since it had been put in the corner, it must be broken or couldn’t be used anymore. As Feng Xi remembered the evil intention he had sensed from this man, he was more certain that he wouldn’t do as the man told. That explained what Feng Xi had just done. After all, Feng Xi was quite clever and would never sit on a chair which he knew was broken. Obviously this man with slanted eyes only wanted to embarrass Feng Xi whom he regarded as an ignorant boy. Thinking of that, Feng Xi put on a beaming smile and said, “It’s all right. I’ll just sit here. You can sit on the chair over there!”

Hearing that, the man with slanted eyes started to wonder if Feng Xi had seen through his intention right away.

Although the man’s plan had failed, he didn’t show a sign of awkwardness on his face. Instead, he patted on his head and pretended that he had just realized something, saying, “Oh, my, I am too careless. The chair has been put in the corner for a long time. How can I let you sit on a dusty chair, Young Master! Let them carry out another two chairs.”

When saying this, he winked at that staffer who was still tidying up the table and chair not far away.

The latter who was well aware what the man was up to ran to the inside and brought two chairs over right away. Although the chairs both looked brand new, anyone with  sharp eyes could see that one had been damaged secretly on purpose.

What was happening now made all the attenders who had been confused open their eyes wide in shock.

After witnessing what had happened, everyone knew that the people of the Green Nether Union wanted to give the boy who had ridden the silver tiger a hard time. Although they didn’t know how the boy had offended the Green Nether Union, they still weren’t willing to miss a chance to watch the fun. Then, the attenders all opened their eyes wide and prepared to see how the boy was going to be fooled.

God of Books and God of Bad Luck detected something wrong long ago and acknowledged those people’s intention.

The two Gods would never let anything bad happen to their master. Moreover, Uncle White and King of the Netherworld had made it clear that they had sent Feng Xi here alone only to let this boy make a name for himself.

At that time, Qing Mingyu had insisted on rejecting Feng Xi into the Green Nether Hunting Group but had to yield to the King’s order. Therefore, Qing Mingyu still held the grudge.

Thus it could be seen that those people who tried to embarrass Feng Xi must have acted at Qing Mingyu’s instigation, otherwise they wouldn’t dare to play tricks on Feng Xi when they already knew about Feng Xi’s distinguished identity. After all, those people feared nothing with Qing Mingyu at their back.

If Feng Xi hadn’t advanced in his cultivation, he wouldn’t straighten those things out.

However, things were different now. Not only had Feng Xi reached a higher level of his cultivation, but he still remembered Qing Mingyu’s secret that God of Books had told him. ‘The Green Nether Union is ruled by Qing Mingyu. Since he already knows I have my leader at my back, he must also know that I have come. Now that he still hasn’t come out to greet me, clearly he has a hidden agenda.’ Feng Xi thought.

It was a very rare thing that Feng Xi could have a clear mind and figure out the cause and effect of the whole thing. Thinking of that, he winked at God of Bad Luck. Although the latter had lost tens of thousands of years’ cultivation because of Feng Xi, that misfortune actually came to him as a blessing in disguise. After God of Bad Luck had taken in Fruit of the World, more than half of his former cultivation was recovered and he was finally able to speak. What was more, he even felt that the energy inside his body became purer, which made him able to employ the Bad Luck Art at will.

After God of Bad Luck realized that staying with Feng Xi was way better for himself than fighting alone, he was finally willing to serve Feng Xi because he had a feeling that he would be blessed by bigger opportunities in the future. As a result, seeing the look in Feng Xi’s eyes, God of Bad Luck knew here came a chance for him to project himself as a powerful god.

Before Feng Xi gave any orders, God of Bad Luck had already attached himself to the intact chair.

In the meantime, the chair which Feng Xi had been sitting on was dragged away for the reason that the chair was too dirty and another chair which looked brand new was brought to him. After that, the man with slanted eyes asked Feng Xi to sit down politely and reverently. If Feng Xi hadn’t caught their weird eye contact, he would really assume that those people of the Green Nether Union were treating him sincerely.

Right now, Feng Xi stared at the two men who were putting on hypocritical smiles on their faces, then at… the chair beside the man with slanted eyes. The boy’s eyes were sparkling as if he was up to something again.

With a twitch of the man’s eyelids, he, fearing that the boy would grab his chair again, moved that chair behind him right away with a warm smile which could let anyone put their guard down. After that, he sat on the chair while saying, “Young Master, please sit down.”

Feng Xi returned a warmer smile to him and sat down.

As everyone was expecting to see the boy suffering, a shocking accident happened all of a sudden. The man with slanted eyes fell behind while shouting ‘Ah’. The next second, the chair was crushed to pieces with a cracking sound. The man with slanted eyes lay in the broken pieces of wood in a very inelegant posture with heartrending cry.

That was not what everyone had expected!

The boy who should have been the one who fell down was sitting on his chair steadily. On the contrary, the man with slanted eyes who was supposed to be perfectly fine made a fool of himself in front of all the people. He would have to live with this moment for a long while.

The one who tried to play tricks on others only embarrassed himself. Everyone was struck dumb with astonishment by such a dramatic change.

After a short moment of silence in the hall, the crowd suddenly burst into laughter! It was just too funny!

The staffer whose name was Qinghai got dazed already, not daring to believe what had happened with his eyes wide open. He had picked the two chairs by himself, so he was well aware of which one was broken and which one was not. He had even marked the chair which the boy was sitting on as a double guarantee! There was no way he could screw up!

However, he still couldn’t figure out why things turned out like this.

The man with slanted eyes who had been waiting to have a good laugh at Feng Xi was in a trance now after a heavy fall. It took him quite a while to come back to his sense. Only after the people around him started to laugh was he awakened with his countenance changing constantly.

Now, it was hard for him not to make a reputation out of this!

As the laughter kept striking his ears, he jumped up from the ground in anger and abused Qinghai,

“You bastard! Are you setting me up on purpose? Why did you bring me a broken chair! Are you looking for death?!”

Qinghai murmured something in a low voice. However, the truth was, he didn’t know what had happened either.

The man with slanted eyes regarded Qinghai’s reaction as another way of confession. Also, since he had asked Qinghai to bring a broken and a perfect chair and now he was the one who had fallen onto the ground while the boy was sitting steadily, the man with slanted eyes assumed that Qinghai had either mixed the two chairs up or brought him the broken one deliberately.

The man with slanted eyes who had a bad temper didn’t believe that Qinghai would bring the wrong chair by accident. Therefore, he firmly believed that Qinghai had done that on purpose.

Seeing the two man getting into a quarrel, Feng Xi covered his mouth and tittered.

No matter how sturdy that chair was, it would still fall apart since God of Bad Luck had attached himself to it.

As for the reason why Feng Xi was perfectly fine, he had to give the credit to God of Books. As Feng Xi’s buddy, God of Books had to make all-out efforts to help his master. Therefore when Feng Xi ordered God of Books to slip under the chair to support him, God of Books, reluctant as he was, still agreed to do so. That was the reason for what had happened.

“Sir, don’t be mad about him. He probably didn’t mean it. Please don’t blame him. Why don’t you sit on my chair? I am only here for registering anyway. Please have it.” Feng Xi waved his hand to the man with slanted eyes and offered his chair to the latter in earnest.

In order to show how sincere he was, he even moved the chair to the man by himself while giving an innocent smile to two men in front of him.

After he had said that, the look of the man with slanted eyes was less sullen than before. The man had only spoken without thinking in public because he had been furious at that moment and now he already regretted over what he had done. Since Feng Xi happened to give him an out, he even started to have a good feeling about this boy. However, he still glowered at Qinghai again.

Qinghai was quite aggrieved but didn’t know how to retort. Luckily, Feng Xi helped him before this thing went serious. If the people in the top level of the Green Nether Union knew about this, he would have to bear all the consequences. Now he just found the boy looking more adorable.

God of Books and God of Bad Luck kept rolling in the air with laughter behind Feng Xi’s back.

What a shrewd boy Feng Xi was! ‘Master’s ability of pretending is getting stronger and stronger! Thanks to King of the Netherworld!”

“Humph!”

The man with slanted eyes shook the application form in his hand and snorted to Qinghai. Then he looked to Feng Xi with a better attitude than before. Since the boy had already offered him a chair, he just pulled it over and sat down while saying to Feng Xi,

“What is your…”

Before he could utter the word ‘name’, there was another cracking sound. The man with slanted eyes fell from the chair in front of everyone again! What a tragedy!
