Qing Zhen’s pupils dilated after he saw his cousin turning away resolutely. After the man and the beast both died, the light circle gradually disappeared.

Normally, one family could only take charge of the ritual for five years. At the end of that, a new family will be selected to control the ritual. The Hoare family has been in charge of the selection the whole time, since it is the most powerful family in the northern area. The families which have gained the possession of the Transmission Ritual have to share half of the profits, in other words, half of the crystal stones they would earn with the Hoare family.”

Speaking of that, Carendra showed a gloomy look on his calm face. Clearly, he was not in favor of that rule.

Actually, no one ever liked that rule except for the people of the Hoare family. First, the Hoare family could gain half of the profits without making the slightest effort. More importantly, opening the ritual required a lot of crystal stones, which meant that the family which controlled the ritual might not be able to make ends meet even if they kept all the crystal stones they earned. If they gave half of the profits to the Hoare family, they would eventually go broke. Therefore, although some families had won the contest in the former years, they still didn’t have enough crystal stones to employ the Transmission Ritual. So most of those families actually had given up opening the ritual halfway.

Well, that was actually the best result for those families, because a long time ago, the Hoare family had set a rule which was even more absurd.

It was said that the Hoare family had made an agreement with the families which controlled the Transmission Ritual that no matter how many crystal stones they earned, they had to give a certain number of the stones to the Hoare family. At that time, some families which didn’t understand the whole situation agreed to that. However, after they took charge of the ritual, they realized that it required a great number of crystal stones to open the ritual and that they had been fooled.

After the Hoare family had implemented that rule for years, a few families finally stood up and fought them. Under certain circumstances, the Hoare family could only agree by asking for half of the profits. Even that change had also been criticized by a lot of people. However, they could only put up with this because the Hoare family was too powerful.
