106. Old Friend

Translator: Joy

Of the eighteen levels of hell, there was one layer called the Fallen God Ravine.

The Fallen God Ravine was where degenerate gods and demons fell. After they died, their souls would decay and eventually become evil objects. Once their souls completely deteriorated, the Blood Tower in the middle of the Fallen God Ravine would gave off a golden beam of light that was able to envelop anyone. Even if the fallen souls were thousands of miles away, they would eventually be pulled into the Fallen God Ravine. Hence, the Fallen God Ravine was also known as the final resting place for gods and demons.

According to the records, the Fallen God Ravine shared similarities to the God and Demon Kingdom with its vast territory and endless skies.

No one truly knew how large the Fallen God Ravine was, only that it appeared before the Ghost World. It contained fallen souls from ancient times to the present. While the souls could cultivate, they could never reach the highest stage.

Since the Fallen God Ravine was the final resting place for fallen souls, even if they cultivated, their progress would be suppressed by the space. They could not exceed the Heaven God realm because they had no way to overcome that barrier.

However, these fallen souls were distinctly different from the sinful souls of the eighteen layers of hell.

When they were alive, the sinful souls committed unforgivable crimes, leaving many regrets. After they died, their souls descended into the eighteen layers of hell. However, their souls had not undergone metamorphosis so they could not be considered fallen souls.

The sinful souls were sorted by the sins that they had committed. Black souls were imprisoned on the sixteenth level while the red souls were confined to the seventeenth and eighteenth floors.

The red souls were divided between the seventeenth and eighteenth floors depending on their strength. The ones on the eighteenth could undergo degeneration at any time so they were closest to the Fallen God Ravine. The moment they underwent decay, they would be pulled into the ravine. Those sinful souls seemed to be aware of this point, so they dared not do anything out of the ordinary.

An extremely strong red soul was imprisoned in the deepest layer of the seventeenth level of hell.

This red soul was in no way inferior to the red souls on the eighteenth floor. It could be said it was because of him that the red souls were afraid to cause any trouble. No one knew where he came from, but he’d been in hell for millions of years. With nothing suppressing him, most of the ghosts were too afraid to get close to him. Some even believed that he willingly came to hell.

Normally, he would pass the endless years in a deep sleep as the other red souls dared not disturb him.

However today, a strange wave of energy surged out of the depths of hell. The wave generated by the strong force encompassed a crushing pressure which caused the red souls to shudder in fear. It gradually surged up and began to overflow, eventually flooding the entire seventeenth floor. As all the souls began to panic, a few of the weaker ones scurried together and huddled up in fear. While they were thinking that the reckless red soul had angered the leader, the pressure was quickly withdrawn, and the air instantly became tranquil.

“It’s you. Since when do you have the free time to come look for me?”

The red soul suddenly spoke. His tone sounded like he was talking to an old friend that he hadn’t seen for many years, but his voice was as lifeless as a pool of dead water. It was a very ancient sound that, over the years, had been polished to the smoothness of a mirror on which there was not a single crack.

“You’ve stayed here for long enough.” The King of the Netherworld had his hands behind his back while his upright posture resembled that of the peak of a mountain. His black pupils were even darker than the shadow behind him. A glance into his eyes was enough to push someone into the darkness.

Upon hearing this, the red soul started laughing as if he heard a funny joke.

After a long time, he finally stifled his laughter and scoffed: “My king, are you trying to chase me out? We’ve been friends for so long, if you really thought that way, then it would be too mean!”

“You’ve run away for tens of thousands of years. It’s time to put an end to this,” the King of the Netherworld said lightly, his expression unchanging.

“Bah! Why didn’t you say this a thousand or ten thousand years ago? You purposely waited until now! Isn’t it because you want me to solve some trouble? Oh King of the Netherworld, you haven’t changed! No matter what the reason, there’s no way you can kick me out of here!” The red soul understood the King of the Netherworld very well, so he jumped straight to the point while complaining.

He didn’t believe the King of the Netherworld was a nosy person. If he really wanted to say that sentence, he wouldn’t have waited until now.

Moreover, he’d lost track of the number of times he had fallen into the traps over the last ten thousand years. If he carelessly agreed, he would definitely die.

“Ha ha ha!!”

Feng Xi, who had been hiding behind the King the whole time, couldn’t help but laugh. He originally couldn’t believe that this person was the Leader’s friend, but after hearing the person complaining like this, he believed it.

Since he moved into the Heaven Peak Palace, he saw many types of people. No matter who it was, every single person was very respectful to the Leader. No one ever overstepped the boundaries, and their attitudes remained proper and humble. Even if they could freely talk, they maintained their reverence toward the Leader.

However, this red soul was the most carefree and disrespectful person he had ever met.

The red soul already knew that there was someone standing behind the King, but thought it was just one of the King’s subordinates, so he didn’t care. However, when he heard the boy’s laughter, he began to feel a bit suspicious. He knew that the King’s subordinates would never laugh in front of the King, especially when he and the King were talking. Interrupting at this time would undoubtedly result in death.

“Boy, what are you laughing at?”

The red soul shifted his gaze. When he saw a handsome but cute boy standing behind the King, he couldn’t help but widen his eyes full of curiosity.

This boy’s power was only at the sixth grade of the God King realm. Any sinful soul in this place would be able to beat him to a pulp but the King of the Netherworld had brought him here. In these ten thousand years, he had never seen the King bring another person but now the King had unexpectedly broken the pattern. How could he not be surprised?

Could this boy actually have outstanding abilities?

“This person is so strange, who is he?” Feng Xi lifted the King’s sleeve and peeped. His sight fell on the red soul’s bloody red eyes glowing in the darkness and was filled with curiosity that rivaled the other.

“Little boy, did your parents not teach you that you have to politely answer a question when asked?” Seeing that he was ignored, as if his question wasn’t heard, the red soul immediately became unhappy and glared at the boy.

“Eh…. I wasn’t taught.” Upon hearing the red soul’s ruthless words, Feng Xi froze.

Feng Xi’s words weren’t meant to provoke the soul. In his past life, he was originally an orphan. Although he later found out that he was the prince of the Heaven Phoenix Dynasty, it made no difference. His parents weren’t involved in his nineteen years of growth and never taught him anything, so it didn’t matter whether it was his outward personality or his inherent nature. What he said wasn’t wrong and the people who knew him all understood this point.

However, the red soul felt the boy was clearly trying to provoke him!

“Little boy,  I can still deal with you though I’ve been locked up here. If you have the power, then stop hiding behind someone else like a little girl.” The red soul said angrily. He didn’t believe that as an ancient demon, it was tasteless to argue against a boy who wasn’t even twenty years old.

Feng Xi immediately poked his head out and made a face, “Do you think I’ll come out just because you want me to? If you’re so strong, then stop hiding like a turtle in its shell.”

“You little brat! You dare talk back to me! If you’re so powerful, then fight me one on one.”

It was his first time talking to someone like this and it was to a barely mature brat. The red soul was immediately agitated and angrily replied like a little child, while preparing to rush out of the darkness.

“You don’t have the right to talk. If you’re so strong, you can fight with my Leader, but I don’t think you have that sort of power. My Leader can crush you with one finger!” Feng Xi shook his finger, hinting that he would not be the one to fight.

“You brat, you’re the first person who dares to call me weak. A fight is a fight, do you think I’m scared of your Leader? However, what are you going to do if you lose?” When the red soul was alive, he was definitely a very short-tempered person. Feng Xi had barely said anything, and he was already angry. The last sentence came out very naturally, as if the red soul was used to gambling with other people.

“If I lose, I’ll do whatever you want, but if you lose, you have to make one promise to me.” Feng Xi sneakily glanced at the King of the Netherworld and saw that the latter’s face remained calm. He saw that the King had no intention to stop him, so he added this condition.

“Okay, no problem. You said one promise, even if it was a hundred, it would be okay. However, the prerequisite is that you win.” The red soul said valiantly, like a generous gentleman.

The moment he finished talking, the depths of the darkness immediately started shaking and a beam of red light suddenly flew out like a falling meteor. But this light was brighter than a meteor. In a few seconds, a red flame appeared before them and suddenly expanded. A humanlike figure walked toward them.

The man seemed valiant and heroic. His face was young and handsome but not of the beautiful type. He looked noble and elegant. His body was strong and tall while his facial features were sharp. His bright and piercing eyes revealed his bold and unconstrained arrogance. At first glance, he looked like a reliable person. He wore a long, green cloak, but was enveloped by a red light. This was the aura that souls naturally gave off and this person might have killed countless people when he was alive.

When the boy saw his true form, Feng Xi’s eyes flashed with surprise.

What was this man doing in hell?
