1. The Abnormality

Translator: Ning LL

The universe was divided into the Heaven World, the Demon World and the Human World. Among the three of them, Human World was in the lowest status.

However, out of the three worlds, there was another world called the Netherworld.

The Netherworld ruled the Underworld and the Ghost World. So even the Heaven World and the Demon World couldn’t overtake the Netherworld’s position.

Because either the human, Gods, or demons would have to enter into the Netherworld after they had deceased, otherwise they would become wandering souls and might never be reincarnated.

The Underworld was the place where all the wandering souls being reincarnated. Only the wandering souls which passed the review of the Transmigration Palace could enter into the Underworld. However, the date of their reincarnation depended on the things they had done in their last life. And the Hell Palace would make the final judgement.

Lucky wandering souls could be reincarnated in the next second.

As for the unlucky ones, they would have to wait for hundreds of years or even more.

The Ghost World was the destination for the wandering souls who had killed people in their last life.

The wandering souls with light sins could go to the Underworld for Reincarnation after their rages had been cleaned up. However, the ones with greater sins would have to be subjected to all kinds of sufferings in places like the Red Lotus Hell until all of their rages were cleaned up. Even so, they had to wait for hundreds to thousands of years to be reincarnated.

However, the Transmigration Palace’s review was the first stage before any wandering soul went to the two worlds above the ground.

For example, the scholar was brought to the Transmigration Palace by the man in white.

Normally, a dead person would turn into two kinds of wandering souls. The first kind was from the ones who had had a natural death, such as dying of old age or disease. This kind of soul was unconscious for a while after death. Therefore, the soul would fly to the Transmigration Palace on their own to accept the review.

The other kind was from the people who died accidentally, like the scholar who had been killed by a coach.

The people who died an unnatural death always had a strong will of survival. Thus, their souls still had consciousness. And this kind of soul must be brought back by ghost officers or else it would have to wander in the universe and become a ghost forever once the time to go to the Transmigration Palace was overrun.

The man in white was not a real ghost officer. In fact, he was the assistant of the lord of the Transmigration Palace.

A man in a high status like him was not in charge of chores like catching souls. However, over the past hundred years, the number of the souls of the people who had died in accident kept increasing, Transmigration Palace was so short-handed that even he had to get out to catch a soul.

He only felt he had been disgraced. But the lord of the palace was the one who had given the order, so he had to accept the assignment.

However…

A moment before he was still filled with anger, the next second he just wished he could kill himself.

As the man in white was about to arrive at the Transmigration Palace, he found the little ghost’s soul had already disappeared in the Spellbound Bell!

The Spellbound Bell was his tool for collecting souls and had never failed once over the thousands of years.

Since that soul had vanished in the Spellbound Bell without any sound or sign, it only meant that it was not a dead soul but an alive one. So, that young man hadn’t really died?

The man in white was almost driven mad by that fact.

Even he was a high privileged nether official who worked in the Transmigration Palace, his impartial lord would still punish him.

Thinking of his lord, the man in white suddenly recalled that the one who had ordered him to collect the young man’s soul was actually his lord. So it seemed that, the lord of the Transmigration Palace should be blamed for this?

Feeling that there was something fishy going on there, the man in white rushed to the Transmigration Palace in a hurry without thinking too much.

After his lord had heard the man in white’s statement about the whole thing and fallen silent for a short moment, he ordered his secretary to bring him the Book of Life and Death. As the lord tapped the Book of Life and Death gently, there was a string of golden words floating from the page where Feng Xi’s name was written.

Feng Xi, son of the emperor of the Heaven Phoenix Dynasty, wandered in the human’s world for dozens of years, never done any great deed or committed any serious crime, died an unnatural death at a quarter to fourteen o’clock on July seventh, the thirteenth year of the Phoenix Emperor, at the age of nineteen, over.

However, a line of words suddenly popped up.

That was something even the lord hadn’t expected, and the words read as follows,

However, at a quarter past thirteen o’clock on July seventh, the thirteenth year of the Phoenix Emperor, he saved hundreds of citizens with his generous donation, due to the boundless merits he had accumulated, he was rewarded thirty years of life specially, died at the age of forty-nine!

The man in white’s face turned sullen right away. How could that young man gain boundless merits?

How lucky was that! And those words had shown up after the lord had ordered him to catch the young man’s soul. It was like they had been fooled.

The longer he thought, the stranger he had found this thing was. The man in white hadn’t accumulated any boundless merit for over thousands of years. How could a young man gain that merits so easily by only saving hundreds of people?

“My lord, this is so weird!”

“Send my orders. Call all the officers to investigate in this immediately. I must find that soul in three days! Any accident could happen if we fail to catch that man’s soul!” the lord gave his orders to his secretary with no expression on his face. Then he turned to the man in white.

“White Impermanence. Go check if there is anyone special among the people he has saved. As long as you find something, come back and report to me right away.”

The eyes of the man in white lit up as he understood his lord’s order at once. Then he responded quickly, “I’ll do it now.”

After everyone in the palace left, the lord went back to his seat and stared at the Book of Life and Death for a short while. As he was about to put it away, the floating golden words in the air suddenly started to jump violently out of control.

The lord stood up from his seat right away with his eyes wildly opened, showing a look of disbelief on his face.

He felt the rotten and ancient pressure of the way of Heaven from the golden words which had just been rearranged! The way of Heaven hadn’t appeared for over thousands of years, now…
