23. The Little Boy (4)

Translator: Superbomb

It was incredible that a nurse would have said something terrifying like that! I firmly believed that I had misheard it, so I mustered the courage and continue walking upstairs.

As soon as we reached the 3rd floor, I felt uncomfortable for no reason. The footsteps in the corridor and the strange chilly wind popped into my mind again.

However, Sister Qunfang didn’t seem to care and she walked straight to the No. 3 Clinic of the General Surgery Department.

Standing at the door of the No. 3 Clinic, I felt a chill running up my spine little by little. In spite of the torchlight in front of me, I felt as if there were eyes quietly watching us in the darkness.

Suddenly, a loud noise broke the stifling silence.

Bang!

The sound came from the No. 3 Clinic!

Could it be that kid was making trouble again? How dare him! Wasn’t he afraid of seeing a ghost at this late hour?!

Sister Qunfang quickly turned the knob. To our surprise, the door wasn’t locked and she pushed it open without difficulty.

There was nobody inside.

We scanned around the small room in the torchlight.

The bookshelf, chair, table… everything was fine.

I felt increasingly tenser. I suddenly thought of something and immediately shone the torch on the floor.

Footprints!

A row of footprints!

We exchanged glances. Sister Qunfang was even paler, and I was sure I didn’t look better than her.

As I wiped my sweat, I stepped in.

Sure enough, the window was open and the glass was making a beeping sound in the wind. There were two fresh footprints on the windowsill. The tips of them pointed to the room as if someone once stood there before entering the room.

Still, these were left by a kid of seven or eight years old.

I moved the torch following the footprints and found that they disappeared at the door.

I hurriedly walked over and shone the torch outside.

Sister Qunfang’s shoes and mine were dry, so we left no footprints.

The wet footprints also disappeared at the door.

Could it be that something opened the window, got into the room and walked to the door? But where did it go after opening the door?

“Sister Qunfang, go ask if the night watchmen had seen anyone in the hospital. I’ll look around to see if anyone is there!” I said to Sister Qunfang, my legs feeble.

Sister Qunfang replied and walked upstairs. I stayed there and did something that I thought I had to do.

The next day, I woke up in a nightmare.

As soon as I arrived at the hospital, I said good morning to Dr. Liu, and then rushed to the Inpatient Department.

I wanted to ask Gao Letian if he was making pranks!

Gao Letian was watching a cartoon. He banged the bed and laughed loudly with a pile of snacks around him. His mother seemed to have gone downstairs to buy him something.

When he saw me enter, he laughed even more loudly. “You must be freaked out! Haha!”

I glared at him. What did he mean?

The boy looked up at me and said smugly, “Don’t try to cover it. I know everything, haha!”

“So you did it?” I rushed to him and picked him up.

He struggled in midair. “No! I didn’t do it! I heard about it! Haha, I threw a bug into that young nurse’s clothes and she told me everything!”

I threw him onto the bed. “Drop the act! You know nothing at all!”

He blinked. “Do you know why the footprints disappeared when they reached the door?”

I looked at him disdainfully. “Why?”

He stared at me and continued, “Because you opened the door!”

What? My brain suddenly went blank. Gao Letian looked at me, but he didn’t look like he was looking at me. From the look in his eyes, he seemed to be much more mature than an 8-year-old boy.

He suddenly clapped his hands and laughed loudly. “He’s on your back like this!”

This is my first story.

Although I call it a story, it is actually true.

All the ghost stories I told are true.

Who was it that night? This must be someone who could enter my office, knew my hours, and tried to get close to me…

When I wrote this, I turned around and scratched my back.

There was no ghost behind me, let alone on my back!

I’d rather listen to New Concept English than read these ghost stories!
