Chapter 6: Fighting With the Cat for Food

It was already the wee hours, but Huo Ling still had not returned home. He did not even reply to Quan Meng’s messages.

Quan Meng looked at the dishes on the table that had turned cold completely and stretched herself.

Forget it. It was up to him whether he wanted to eat it or not. Quan Meng still had to go to work tomorrow and should go to bed early.

Not long after Quan Meng fell asleep, Huo Ling came back.

The moment he entered the door, he saw a pair of women’s shoes at the entrance. He was a little shocked, and then he remembered that he had gotten married to a woman this morning.

“She doesn’t even know how to put her shoes away,” Huo Ling thought with a frown. When he walked in, he realized that the kitchen light was still on. Did she forget to turn it off? Huo Ling walked over and realized that there was no one there.

On the table, there were a few dishes, a soup, and a steak with a heart drawn in sauce on it. It seemed to have been left there for a long time. Only then did Huo Ling remember that he had forgotten to tell Quan Meng that he had to attend a social event and would not be back for dinner.

Huo Ling did not give it a second thought and turned off the lights before returning to his room. He had already eaten outside anyway. Besides, the food made by a pampered young lady was probably just some gimmicky stuff that was made blindly according to some obscure recipe. It would not taste very good.

Quan Meng slept all the way until dawn. She did not sleep well at all, probably because she was in a new environment. It was only 5 am when she checked her phone.

However, she couldn’t fall asleep again after she woke up. She was prepared to go downstairs for a morning run before making breakfast, and then go to work in high spirits.

She passed by the kitchen and saw that the dishes were still there. Huo Ling probably didn’t come back all night.

Quan Meng shrugged her shoulders. It couldn’t be helped then. Huo Ling would only have a chance to taste her cooking next time.

After Quan Meng changed her clothes and came to the entrance, she realized that her shoes were nowhere to be found. She searched all over the place but couldn’t find them. Just when she suspected that Little Floss had hidden them, she realized that she hadn’t checked the shoe cabinet next to her.

Therefore, even though Huo Ling came back, he did not touch the food she had left for him. He really didn’t spare any thought for her at all.

As she mulled over these thoughts, Quan Meng tied her shoelaces and went downstairs to do warm-up exercises.

When Huo Ling got up, it was already 6:30 am. To be more precise, he was awakened by the aroma from outside.

He put on his clothes and pushed the door open. He saw Quan Meng with her hair tied up and dressed in sports attire. Rays of sunshine streamed through the window onto the girl’s body, causing her to exude a gentle glow. She looked like an angel as she sat at the dining table and fought for food with Little Floss.

Wait a minute. Fighting for food?

That was right. There was a bowl of noodles in front of Quan Meng. Little Floss kept trying to put its head into that bowl of noodles, and Quan Meng was desperately protecting that bowl of noodles, muttering all the while, “This is mine.”

When they heard the door open, both woman and cat stopped in their tracks and raised their heads to look at Huo Ling.

“Good morning,” Quan Meng spoke up awkwardly and smiled. “Did we wake you up?”

“No, I usually wake up at this time.” Huo Ling walked over casually and carried Little Floss down from the table. “The food you want is here, okay?”

He placed Little Floss by the side of the cat dish, but no matter how hard he tried to coax it, Little Floss refused to eat.

“It might not be hungry.” Huo Ling suddenly said out loud to find some excuse for himself. Perhaps because its master was just beside it, Little Floss was no longer in the mood to fight for food with Quan Meng. It turned its head and went off to play on one side.

Huo Ling then went to the refrigerator to get some breakfast for himself. However, when he opened it, he found that it was full, but his bread was nowhere to be found.

“Er… Huo Ling, I made more. You can have some too.” With that, Quan Meng got up and walked into the kitchen. She did not care whether Huo Ling wanted it or not and simply scooped out a bowl of noodles. There was even a nicely cooked poached egg on it.

Huo Ling subconsciously swallowed his saliva when he smelled the aroma. It was really fragrant, but Huo Ling still turned his head away awkwardly. He clenched his fist and put it to his mouth to cough twice deliberately.

“No need. I’ll just buy a cup of coffee later.”

“I’ve already cooked it. It’ll be a waste if you don’t eat it, Huo Ling.” Quan Meng put on an aggrieved expression and blinked her big watery eyes at Huo Ling. “Do I have to throw it into the trash can like those dishes last night?”

Huo Ling still wanted to refuse, but Quan Meng didn’t give him the chance. She picked up the noodles with the chopsticks and brought it into his mouth.

Huo Ling’s face turned red instantly. He widened his eyes in shock. The taste was indeed good, but Quan Meng was being somewhat over-familiar. Huo Ling had no choice but to take the bowl of noodles from Quan Meng’s hands. Then, he sat down at the table and began eating slowly.

“How is it? Isn’t it delicious?” Quan Meng sat opposite him and looked at Huo Ling with a beaming smile.

She was very satisfied with her cooking, but in the past, she could only cook for herself. Even Liang Ye had never tried her cooking before because he always said that he didn’t want Quan Meng’s precious hands to be stained with oil and smoke. In reality, it was because he looked down on the food she cooked.
