The principle of this suspension is similar to twisting the towel. When the towel is tightened, the hand will feel a reaction force on the towel, which is the elastic force generated after the towel is twisted.

Torsion bar suspension is the same principle.

One side of the torsion bar is installed on the side wall of the vehicle body, and the other side passes through the hole of the vehicle body and is connected to the swing arm. The weight load on the wheel causes the torsion bar to twist through the swing arm, and the obtained elastic force is used to support the vehicle body. This is the principle of torsion bar suspension. It is very simple and takes up very little space.

The characteristic of torsion bar suspension is that the dynamic stroke is very large. Theoretically, the total length of stroke can be close to twice the length of swing arm. There is no problem that other suspension needs to consider the length of spring. In addition, the structure is not very complex and takes up very little body space. Therefore, almost all tanks began to use this suspension.

If its disadvantage is that the torsion bar crosses the vehicle body, it is inconvenient to maintain in the field.
