Struggle in the Steam Age

Chapter 8: Gun shop

Half an hour later, they appeared in a quiet alley near the center of the city. Originally, it only took 20 minutes to ride a public carriage, but unfortunately they encountered off work hours.

"It's a long experience to be able to block even a carriage." Lawrence complained about the traffic jam, a big city disease that could not be improved even after changing the world, and then swallowed the hot dog that was left in his hand. On the way, Lawrence found that there were three or four mobile vendors selling various foods beside each horse station. This hot dog was bought at the station when he got off the train before.

"Gunpowder Street, if you want to buy a gun in Eagle Fort, this is the best place." Edward also swallowed the sandwich he bought before, and then gestured to Lawrence: "Come with me, I know There is a store my father often visits."

Unlike the central commercial street just passing by, the shops on this street have darker lights and there are not so many shops. Most importantly, they do not have windows for displaying goods. But through the open door, you can see all kinds of firearms hanging on the wall in the store.

The White Eagle Federation has no prohibition on guns, and any adult citizen has the right to buy guns. However, if you do not apply for a special gun license, the firearms that ordinary people can buy are limited to pistols and smooth-bore rifles.

"Okay, here we are." Just as Lawrence was thinking about these things, Edward, who was leading the way, stopped. "The black iron weapon is this one."

Lawrence looked up and found that this shop was no different from other shops on this street: there were also large-scale gun-related advertising murals painted on the wall, and a small door was open. There is a small iron plate on the door with the name Black Iron Weapon written in white paint.

"Welcome, children." A burly man who was only under Lawrence's chest, with a thick beard hanging from his belt, walked over to welcome him, "Welcome to the black iron weapons, you can buy your favorites here. I guarantee that their quality is good enough."

"It turned out to be a gun shop run by a dwarf." Lawrence instantly recognized the race of the man in front of him. No wonder Edward had vowed to guarantee that this is the best gun shop on this street.

The hometowns of the dwarves are several countries located in the mountains in the northern and central parts of the Old World. However, after the beginning of the Age of Exploration, some of the dwarves left their hometowns with humans to go to the New World. And now this dwarf is probably the descendant of those dwarf pioneers.

Like the legends that Lawrence had heard in his previous life, the dwarves are good at making all kinds of metal objects. For example, two of the five famous firearms brands in Newland were created by dwarves.

"Little Edward, what's the matter with you?" The dwarf uncle asked caringly, looking at his arm hanging from his chest after recognizing Edward. "Who would attack you?"

"I don't know, Uncle Rick." Edward showed a helpless expression, "It may be related to someone who didn't follow the rules in my previous competition."

"It's horrible." The dwarf named Rick said angrily. "If I catch this kind of trickster, I'll use my fist to tell him what he shouldn't do."

After that, he glanced at Lawrence and asked, "Are you a friend of Edward, are you here to buy a gun?"

"Yes." Lawrence lifted his hat slightly to reveal the bandage on his head. "I participated in the same competition with Edward, and we were attacked on the same day. So I want to buy a weapon for self-defense now."

"It's a good practice. Men should fight back against the enemy's conspiracy face to face like this." The dwarf Rick patted Lawrence's forearm approvingly and asked, "By the way, have you used a gun before?"

"Used." Lawrence nodded. "My hometown is in a small town along the mainland railway. That place is full of goblins every year. So when I was eleven or twelve years old, I learned how to use guns to protect myself. It's just that I have always used that kind of outfit. Front-loaded flash hider rifle and revolver with linen shell bullets."

"Experience is good." The dwarf nodded and led them towards the big counter. "But I recommend to you firearms that use metal shell ammunition. They are more convenient and safer to use. It's just that the bullets are more expensive than in the past. They are more expensive, and because they have become popular in the past two years, it may not be easy to replenish ammunition in small places."

Speaking of this, the dwarf lifted a board and went to the back of the counter, then turned around and said to Lawrence. "Of course, if you want old models of guns and ammunition, I also have them here. The quality is guaranteed."

"It's okay, I need to use a new type of ammunition gun." Lawrence immediately made his choice. As a fan of the pseudo army in his previous life, he didn't know how old-style guns would be eliminated sooner or later. Only weapons with metal shells represent the future. Direction.

"You want a rifle and a pistol." Rick the dwarf asked after opening the cabinet door and bending over.

"pistol."

"Then look at this," Rick took out a box made of pine wood from the counter and opened it. "The latest product launched by Volcano, the'Lightning' double-action revolver. She weighs only three pounds, but can fire six at once. A .45 integrated smokeless gunpowder with a large caliber bullet, and the 5.5-inch barrel also gives her very good accuracy. In short, I think this is a great pistol."

"Uncle Rick has a deep research on firearms. If you don't have a clear goal, I personally recommend you to adopt his opinion. At least everyone agrees that his opinions in this regard are very professional." Edward said in a low voice. Lawrence said.

Lawrence stepped forward and looked at the pistol in the box. It was somewhat different from the pistol he had seen in his previous life: it was a pistol made purely of wood and steel, and its components were tightly integrated. The metal surface is covered with beautiful toasted blue, and the black walnut gun handle is also carved with detailed anti-skid patterns and an erupting volcano logo. In short, this gun looks like a work of art, but it also exudes a trace of murderousness.

"This gun is very good, but can you give me a test shot?"

"Of course." Rick picked up the pistol from the box, then took out a box of bullets from a drawer behind him and took Lawrence and the others to the underground shooting range.

The downward aisle is hidden behind a cabinet in the store, UU reading www. uukanshu. After com moved the mechanism and moved the cabinet, the three of them walked down the stone stairs step by step with the light of the iron oil lamp hanging on the ceiling.

"Isn't it brighter like the gas lamp on the road? Why are oil lamps still used here?" Lawrence almost stepped on the air because of the shadow when he went down the stairs. Fortunately, he held the wall next to him.

"Little guy, I want to use a gas lamp, too," said the dwarf walking ahead. "But what are the consequences of using this combustible gas in a confined space? Our dwarves have been taught enough when mining before. I don't want to wake up one day and the whole store is gone."

"So it's like this!" Lawrence finally understood why he had only seen a gas lamp in a relatively empty place such as a classroom or a roadside.

"Okay, here we are." They heard Rick, who led the way, shouting before they had gone far. Sure enough, after walking down three or four steps, Lawrence felt that he was on a flat ground.

"Welcome to the United Firing Range, where all the test firings on this street take place." Rick opened the door and said, after which the sound of gun shooting rushed out of the door, drowning out their conversation.
