Struggle in the Steam Age

Chapter 22: Night attack

In the darkness, Lawrence lay on the bed and held his pistol tightly. At this time, only this cold weapon could bring him a touch of comfort. Just when he was thinking about whether he stayed here all night pretending to be ignorant or now he walked out of the door to find out what was happening around him, there was a sudden movement in the direction of the door.

"Knowledge." The man at the door quickly opened the door, and then Lawrence heard a familiar voice appear in his ear, as if someone was standing in his ear and whispering.

"Hard work." Lawrence muttered a little and got up from the bed. The door opened, and the High Priest Arthur of the Faith Department of the Church of Knowledge walked in wearing a tight leather armor, a night hammer hung on his left hand belt, and a long iron chain on the other side. A book made purely of steel.

"Little guy, it's nice to see you again." High Priest Arthur looked at Lawrence who stood up and said, "I didn't expect you to be unsuccessful at this time."

"My nerves are tense all the time, even tonight it was just two bites of my own biscuits and some fruit." Lawrence said in a slightly hoarse voice, "Right, do you have any water?"

"Of course." High Priest Arthur did not know where he took out a canteen and handed it to Lawrence. Seeing him take the canister and pour it, the high priest reassured him. "Don't worry, I bring a lot of water. I have to say that you are right to be vigilant. Today, all the food and drinks at your campfire party put some sleeping pills with mediocre effects."

"The effect is average?" Lawrence put down the kettle and asked in a puzzled manner, "Then what is the use of this medicine?"

"Of course it works." High Priest Arthur pointed to the grapefruit tea on the coffee table outside the door. "There is another sleeping pill in the tea, and the one that someone just blown in with a tube is the third one. If these three sleeping pills are mixed together, the effect will be no different from that of a powerful anesthetic. But if you separate them, you will get them step by step. People become sleepy, so that even if you wake up tomorrow, you won’t doubt what happened today."

"No wonder." Lawrence finally figured out why a craft beer with a higher alcohol content was used at today's bonfire party, and why the barbecue smelled slightly salty at the time. Because after eating these things, people will be very thirsty, so naturally they will drink the tea in the room.

"Okay." After seeing Lawrence drinking almost the water, High Priest Arthur began to inquire about the business tonight. "Can you tell me what happened in the ruins today? We just stayed in ambush around the whole day and don't know what happened underground."

"Actually, I didn't go deep into the ruins. It was just a temporary camp established with the doctor next door." Lawrence said honestly. After hearing these words, Arthur's eyes were slightly dim, but very Hurry up, Lawrence's next sentence cheered him up. "But I treated a wounded person, and he told me what happened next."

Then Lawrence introduced all the information he had learned, from discovering the uniform tattoos on the shoulders of the workers at the beginning, to the news about the great lake he heard from the wounded man. In the middle, the high priest Arthur interrupted him several times and asked for some details.

"I think I might know something." After hearing what Lauren said, the face of High Priest Arthur suddenly became serious. "The situation may be worse than we thought."

"What?" Lawrence asked suspiciously. "I didn't see anything strange."

"That's because you are not an extraordinary person, so the understanding of the extraordinary world is only a little understanding on the surface." High Priest Arthur said seriously. "Those things you said that would lie under the sand like fishes are not normal transcendent creatures at all, but demonized sandfish. The places where such demonized creatures live often contain great danger."

Just as Arthur was explaining, there was a sudden sound of horseshoes outside. Soon four men wearing blue inlaid iron armor, swords and large-caliber revolvers at their waists walked in, and Lawrence recognized them as members of the samurai group belonging to the Church of Knowledge.

After they entered the door, the six people in the room looked at the people who arrived at the construction site through the gap in the curtain. Soon, a carriage stopped in their field of vision. When the car stopped, four people wearing uniform leather jackets and cowboy hats but carrying various weapons with them came down. .

"The Demon Hunter." Arthur recognized who it was. "It seems that the two Demon Hunters who left at noon today also reported today's affairs to the Demon Hunter Guild."

After speaking, he released a blue light at his fingertips, and this light formed a blue quill and parchment holy symbol in the room. And the group of demon hunters suddenly sensed something and looked at the house where Lawrence lived.

Arthur walked to the window at this time and opened the curtains and waved to the group of demon hunters who were looking here. Soon, the group of demon hunters also squeezed into the house.

The first thing everyone did after getting together was to exchange information with each other. From these demon hunters, Lawrence learned that the people from the Church of the Lord of Dawn had already entered the underground.

"They are too impatient." An angry expression appeared on the face of High Priest Arthur. UU reading www.uukanshu. com "We previously informed them that we were letting everyone enter the ruins together, rather than letting them go on their own without knowing anything."

"Ah, don't worry about this, because we also gave them the information we got before. They are not ignorant of the following situation." said the leading middle-aged demon hunter with double swords behind them. "But the Church of the Lord of Dawn has always been like this. When facing evil, they always attacked in such an impatient manner. To be honest, they have been very patient to persist until the night before rushing in."

"But whether it is to prevent them from falling into a lonely struggle, or to prevent them from completely eliminating the demonized creatures by themselves, let us go for nothing. I think we should act now."

"You are right." High Priest Arthur nodded. "Lawrence, then you—"

"I'll go down with you. I'm not someone who has no resistance at all." Lawrence said and patted his pistol. "I will wait for you outside the ruins at that time, in case there is really any problem inside. I can also run out and give you a letter."

"Yeah-your proposal is valuable." High Priest Arthur thought for a while and nodded, then from behind his waist he took out a strange alchemy instrument the size of a palm and handed it over with his pocket watch, and then pointed to the alchemy. Said a blue button on the instrument. "If you see this button, you will count the time after we enter the ruins. If we haven't come out for 15 minutes and the red crystal on it doesn't light up, then you can press the blue button."

"Understood." Lawrence nodded, and then walked towards the sewer entrance with the Church of Knowledge and the Demon Hunters.
