Lin Lan took out the ribs to thaw them and went to prepare other ingredients. Hearing what Eldest Aunt Han said ever so calmly, she smiled, “There are seven people in our family and we don’t even have enough food for ourselves, when did you assume that there would be food for you too?”

Even if she did have any leftovers, they wouldn’t be relinquished to the mother and son duo!

Just then, Han Qingsong came back from his outing and there was a bag tied on the back of the bicycle, which seemed to contain some grains.

It was rare for her to address her siblings as such, so with how enthusiastic her tone was when she called out to him, Han Qingsong was slightly startled.

After clearly seeing that it was his sister, he nodded, “Eldest sister, you’re here.”

Eldest Aunt Han was extremely thrilled and helped Han Qingsong carry the bag into the room, “What’s in it?”

Han Qingsong invited her into the house whilst carrying his bag, “Rice.”

Eldest Aunt Han immediately entered the house with her chin held high like a victorious rooster as she gave Lin Lan a sideways look in protest.

Lin Lan: “…” Let’s see how long you can keep that up.

Han Qingsong showed her the bag, “Luo Haicheng got some catties of glutinous rice, though I’m not sure where it is from. He doesn’t know how to eat it himself, so he had me bring it to you to see if there was anything you could do about it.”

“What is glutinous rice?” Eldest Aunt Han was very curious as she had never heard of it.

Han Qingsong, “Sticky rice.”

They didn’t grow rice in the village and many people have never seen glutinous rice in their entire lives. Naturally, they wouldn’t know about its existence or uses. Even the nearby cities didn’t call it glutinous rice, merely referring to it as sticky rice.

For example, there was a snack called sticky rice stick.  The glutinous rice flour would be kneaded into strips before being deep-fried and rolled in sugar. It tasted crunchy and sweet, so it was loved by adults and children.

It’s a pity that it was also very expensive, which resulted in the villagers from the countryside not being able to eat the sweet treat more than twice a year at best.

When Eldest Aunt Han heard that it was sticky rice, she curiously reached out and was going to claw a handful out of the bag.

Lin Lan squeezed the mouth of the cloth bag and said to Han Qingsong, “Your eldest sister came with your nephew and asked you to arrange a job for her. You should go to mother’s place to talk about any important matters; I’m going to start cooking.”

Lin Lan was clearly saying that she was not happy and did not want to serve the two of them a meal, so he should send them away quickly.

She brought out a large bowl of glutinous rice, intending to soak the ribs with some steamed glutinous rice. In addition, steaming the glutinous rice to make simple rice balls was also delicious. The children would definitely like it.
