RWBY: Fireborn

Chapter 95 - In-Laws and truths

Logan: "I can't believe I f*cked that up." Logan muttered as he snapped the neck of a gang member that was guarding a hideout.

.

After Logan had captured Dove, he had found that Mare Alabaster was Glynda's godchild. Her parents were still alive, it was just that she showed up to see Glynda's husband, Logan. Logan didn't know who she was because he had shut his scroll off before ȧssaulting Dove's hideaway. Now, Logan was embarrassed to even be in the same room as her due to how he treated Mare. That, and he almost put a bullet into the back of her head.

.

Sighing, Logan shook his head to clear his thoughts as he began to enter Cardin's 'safehouse' that was far outside of Vale near the sea. He had already dealt with the other three members of Team CRDL with Cardin being the last one. With Dove and Sky being the easiest to deal with, though Russel Thrush was left alone due to a very annoying reason, Cardin was bound to a very slow and painful death. That, Logan was willing to fight the Brother Gods to make happen.

.

Once inside the 'safehouse', Logan slowly cleared out each room he came across. The first three rooms were empty while the next two had two or three gang members inside. Logan was quick with dispatching any gang members he came across either with a quick throat slice or a suppressed pistol shot to the head. Not one even had the chance to even blink before they fell dead. While Logan was going through the rooms, he did find one gang member that was r*ping a girl that Logan knocked out for torture later and the girl just thanked him quietly and waited for Logan to get back from clearing the rest of the house.

.

As Logan came to the last room of the house, he could hear pained mȯȧns from inside and Cardin's annoying voice as well. Logan didn't hesitate to kick the door open and use his ash to yank Cardin off a young girl and put three where his manhood now once was. The girl, however, was broken beyond recovery when Logan looked into her eyes; he could tell that she would take her own life once she was out of here. With a heavy heart, Logan closed her eyes and put one in her heart so that she may sleep peacefully.

.

Logan released a shaky breath as he turned to Cardin that was trying to crawl away. Carding didn't need to see Logan's eyes to see that he wasn't gonna see the end of today. But what Cardin didn't realize was that his suffering would span weeks before he would finally die. Torture so foul that even the Brother Gods would even fear should they be in the same position.

Logan sighed as he waited for the elevator to arrive at Ozpin's office, having just gotten back from his third day of torturing Cardin. Ozpin had called Logan in is due to the fact that the only one that was let go of Team CRDL was Russel Thrush that now was safely inside Vacuo's borders. A conversation that Logan wasn't looking forward to. After all, Russel's case was an issue with Logan from what he was told by Russel himself and what he got from Junior's files.

.

Logan: "You called?" Logan sighed as the elevator's doors open to Ozpin's office.

Ozpin: "Yes, thank you for coming, Mr. Scarlett." Ozpin answered him in a formal tone. "Please, take a seat. Tea?"

Logan: "Okay, this is a formal questioning." Logan spoke to himself as he walked in. "Let's get this over with."

Ozpin: "As you already know, Team CDRL has been expelled due to their grades being below what was needed to pass, numerous detentions, and several complaints against them." Ozpin started as he poured tea for Logan.

Logan: "Among other things." Logan commented, but Ozpin continued.

Ozpin: "But their latest stunt which involved the destruction of property, theft, and a multitude of other crimes has made them wanted criminals of Vale." Ozpin spoke, finishing what he was saying. "And thanks to your efforts, two of the members are deceased while a third is in police custody. But the fourth remains at large in another Kingdom."

Logan: "Ozpin, how about we just cut to the chase here and get to why you really called me here for." Logan said as soon as Ozpin went to take a breath. "This is about Russel Thrush, isn't it?"

Ozpin: "Yes. Yes, it is." Ozpin sighed. "Please, tell me why you never apprehended him. Or rather, why you let him go."

.

Logan: "It's not as black and white as you might expect." Logan said as he finally took the tea and sipped it.

Ozpin: "It never is, is it?" Ozpin said as he took a sip from his coffee cup. "Please, explain."

.

Logan: " Russel Thrush, ex-member of Team CRDL, and a former Bandit tribe member." Logan started, causing Ozpin to raise an eyebrow. "While his tribe is no longer around thanks to Raven and her tribe, Russel Thrush was the bast*rd child of the tribe chieftain and son of a woman they captured and used as a toy. Upon his birth, he was thrown into the slave group the tribe had as servants. Russel, upon Raven's attack of his tribe's camp, when he was 14, rallied the slaves and attacked from within. Due to both attacks, his tribe was annihilated and he was the only survivor.

.

Raven took pity on him and brought Russel into her tribe for about a year before leaving him in the forests around Vale. She ended kicking him out due to his natural caring nature and the fact that he hated bandit tribes. Not long after, Russel found his semblance; 'White Healing Lilies'. From then, he made a living off of odd jobs just for Lien and food. At 16, Cardin found and forced Russel to work for him under the threat of Russel's heritage being outed and chased out of Vale. Russel accepted and bided his time while stealing small amounts of Lein from Cardin along with gathering a lot of dirt on him as well.

.

Once Cardin was kicked out of Beacon, Russel released all the dirt he had on Cardin and ran with what he managed to steal from him. Hence why he wasn't really a part of the parking garage break-in other than hacking the doors to everything. He was giving everything he had on Cardin to the V.P.D. and was making sure he could get away before anyone, namely me, could get him."

Ozpin: "I see, that's why the police were already trying to track down Cardin before they even heard about the parking garage." Ozpin said, piecing together parts of why Russel was let go. "But, that doesn't explain why you let him go. Even if you knew all this, you would have at least brought him in due to him breaking and entering the pods."

Logan: "Team GUNN." Logan said then continued when he saw that Ozin didn't understand. "As you know, you accepted Team GUNN's transfer to Shade Academy in Vacuo at their request. Their member, Umber Chest, had sėxuȧŀ relations with Russel."

Ozpin: "You don't mean..." Ozpin spoke with surprise.

Logan: "Yeah, Russel had a weak pullout game and is paying for it." Logan, so very Qrow-like, said. "And the reason Russel is on his way to Vacuo is to meet Umber's Parents and to own up to his mistake. He has already talked with Umbra about the child and they're keeping it. Right now, Russel's priority is to meet her parents, inform them about what happened and their plans, then find a job and work to support his and Umber's child. The entire talk I had with him was about what he was doing and planning."

.

Ozin sighed at the reveal that Logan had just dropped onto his already full plate. It would have been one thing if Russel just wanted to start fresh, but with the fact that he has an unborn child on the way, things got a lot more complicated. As birth rates are important for any Kingdom due to Remnant's low population as a whole, pardons could be given to a person for their crimes as long as they follow strict rules and never break a law, even a minor one, ever again. The only ones unable to get the pardon were those with too heinous to be given one. Ozpin could already see the paperwork for Russel's pardon piling up with the rest of what he has to do.

.

Logan could see that Ozpin had far too much to do and now with Russel's pardon coming soon, he decided it was for the best to leave some of his premium coffee beans and leave. Logan knew the pain of paperwork but knew better than to offer help. As the elevator doors closed, he gave Ozpin a salute.

.

But now, Logan had to deal with his god-daughter and his wife. While he could always make his wife happy, in numerous ways, he had no idea about his new god-daughter. Mare was just as happy and innocent as Ruby was at her age (12 years old and she is short for her age) but already was strong enough to be a huntress. It was only her age that was stopping her from getting it. According to Glynda, she was orphaned at ten when her parents left for a bandit extermination mission and never came back. And the only time she ever came around was during her school's summer break.

.

Logan sighed at the thought of how much the girl was hurting. He could still remember parts of his first life. Some of the stares and glares from children whose parents were taken from them by his own hands were still ingrained into his memory. There are even times when the stares make him unable to sleep some nights.

.

Not long after Logan left Ozpin's office, he found himself at Beacon's outside training grounds. There, Teams RWBY and JNPR were fighting each other with extreme intensity. When one lost their weapon due to another disarming them or Phyrra using her semblance to remove them out of the owner's hands. Logan watched how each team acted and responded to the changing battlefield for a while with a smile on his face. Even with the ever-changing battlefield, the two teams still covered each other when they needed it and teamed up when it called for it.

.

Logan: 'Improvise, adapt, and overcome. Grow beyond what you're capable of. Go beyond, Plus Ultra!' Logan joked happily in his head then saddened at the old memories. 'Though, I wish that none of you have to see those them. Those eyes, they can drive a person mad. I'm not an exception to that either, I just know how to hide it well.'

.

Logan sighed as he walked away. His current destination, Glynda's apartment to talk with Mare. Glynda had asked Logan yesterday to talk with Mare and persuade her not to take the Hunter/Huntress exam when she turns 16. While one could get their Hunter license at 16 years of age, the test was far harder than the one given in one of the Huntsmen Academies. The very same one that Logan passed but failed due to Faunus discrimination in Vale's council.

.

But, Logan knew what was going on inside Mare's mind. The dėsɨrė for revenge was clear to both him and Glynda. Mare was doing everything she could to get strong enough to find the bandit's that her parents went after but to do that she had to get her Huntress license as the mission became A rank. While Logan could go and take down the bandits with ease, he knew that Mare would do all she could to make sure either she would go with him or head off to do it herself regardless of the danger.

.

Releasing a deep sigh, Logan shook his head. Numerous thoughts of how he could breach the subject about revenge to Mare and none of them would be easy. By the time Logan got to Glynda's apartment, he was out of ideas of how to confront Mare.

.

Logan: "Screw it." Logan sighed out. "I'll just wing it. I can't do subtle when it comes to things like this. Might as well go with what feels right." Logan mumbled as he entered Glynda's apartment. "I mean, what's the worst-" 'No, no, no, no. Bad Logan! You almost jinxed yourself.'

.

However, as soon as Logan entered the apartment, Logan was met with Mare wearing a determined expression. One that Logan knew would be trouble and a headache at that.

.

Mare: "Mr. Scarlett, please train me!" Mare shouted at Logan before he could even set foot inside the apartment.

Logan: "Not gonna happen."
