RWBY: Fireborn

Chapter 40 - Initiation...Start!

Glynda: "You could have gone easy on them." Glynda scolded Logan as they left the infirmary. Logan didn't say anything as he sat inside Glynda's purple bubble she made. "But in all seriousness, what did they do that made you do all that?" Glynda asked after sighing.

Logan: "They were picking on their fellow student and even outright called him a slave." Logan said before grumbling. "Plus they spit into my coffee. I was going to let them off with less, but that just crossed a line you don't ever cross."

Glynda: "Coffee? They spit into your coffee?" Glynda asked incredibly. "You did all that, because they spit into your coffee?" She asked and received a nod in return. "What is wrong with you?"

Logan: "Are you really asking ME, of all people, that?" Logan countered her question with one of his own. "But in all honesty, they weren't Huntsmen material. School life mirrors real world situations, no matter how small. How they act here demonstrates their real selves."

Glynda: "I understand your point of view. But if they weren't huntsmen material for what they were doing, then what about you?"

Logan: "I'm not sure. But, I know I'm not a Hunter. I'm a soldier fighting a war... but just without the war."

Glynda: "*Sigh* Oh Logan..." Glynda grumbled under her breath. "Come on, there's less then twenty minutes left til breakfast is over." Glynda said as she released Logan from her bubble.

~~~~~~~~ With Logan~~~~~~~~
Logan stood in front of an old collapsing temple deep in the northern part of the Emerald forest. Something had been bothering him ever since Logan flew over to the temple before the students gathered at the cliff facing the forest. And as he walked around as he examined the temple, he had figured it out. Even though there is a massive and deep lake cutting part of it off, the Grimm in the forest don't attack due the the students or teachers. Logan noticed that there were recent tracks from people around the temple. As he was thinking about this, his scroll vibrated.
Logan: "Students Launched. Landing in 20 seconds. Eta 5 minutes for closest." Logan read as he mumbled to himself. "Oh Oum, this is gonna be fun." Logan said as he cracked a smile and started to chuckle evilly to himself.
Ash started to swirl around Logan. His form started to enlarge and widen. When it stopped, Logan stood tall at 8 feet with fiery red eyes. Giggling to himself, for added measure, Logan made a throne as well. Sitting in it, Logan waited for who would ever get here first.
~~~~~~~~ With Ruby~~~~~~~~

Ruby just landed by using her scythe to scale down a tree while losing any unneeded speed and momentum. Doing a quick 360 spin, Ruby searched for any Grimm or other students nearby. Deciding to move, Ruby rushed off using her semblance to get distance from her landing zone. As she rushed through the grove of trees, Ruby kept-ed her head on a swivel to keep away unwanted surprises and a look out for a partner. As she ran into a small clearing, she came face to face with Weiss.

Ruby and Weiss looked at each other for a few seconds then Ruby stuck her hand out in a mutual agreement handshake. Weiss just sighed then shook Ruby's hand. As they let go of each others hands, a feminine scream was heard overhead followed by a thunk. With a single glance at each other, Ruby and Weiss decided to find the source of the scream.

It didn't take long for the two of them to find the source of the scream. They found Jaune about twenty feet up in a tree, pinned by a red and gold spear from his hood. Jaune was a fairly tall blonde haired, blue eyed, teen. Jaune was wearing a black short-sleeved hoodie with detached, reddish-orange sleeves and a dark brown image could be slightly seen under his white diamond-shaped ċhėst plate cut off above his lower abdomen. Placed over his shoulders were a pair of white spaulders with rerebraces set under them and tie to his upper arms. He was also wearing blue jeans with a white patch placed on the left knee and black sneakers; there were two belts crisscrossing his waist, both different shades of brown, with a pair of small pouches on them. Brown wrist-length gloves with exposed fingertips and small metal plates over the back could be seen on his hands as he dangled from the tree.

Ruby: "Oh! Jaune!" Ruby shouted, then looked to Weiss. "Well, I guess we found the screamer."

Weiss: "*Eye roll* Great. Now what are we supposed to do?" Weiss asked sarcastically.

As she said that, a red headed girl poked her head out from a bush nearby. When Ruby, Weiss, and Jaune turned to look at her, Weiss straightened her posture while admiration shined in her eyes. As a top, she wore a brown over-bust corset with a vertical strip of lighter brown in the center. Additionally, Pyrrha wore an elastic, black, A-line mini skirt and brown opera-length gloves on both arms. She wore a red ankle-length sash that wrapped around her skirt. For accessories, there was a small circular bronze plate on her right hip opposite two pouches with both connected to a belt. The plate bore her emblem. Underneath her hair, she always wore a brown circlet adorned with a pair of small, green, teardrop-shaped emeralds on thin chains. She also sported a large bronze gorget around her neck and a bronze bracelet on the upper half of her left arm.

Weiss: "Pyrrha! It's good to see you again!" Weiss said, her personality doing a 180.

Pyrrha: "You too, Weiss." Pyrrha replied to her then turned to Ruby. "And may I ask who you are?"

Ruby: "Ruby Rose! So are we gonna get Jaune out of the tree?" Ruby said and got a thank you from Jaune.

When they got Jaune out of the tree, the four of them decided to stay as a group til the Temple. Weiss tried to head in one direction to lead the group until Ruby intervened. Ruby then pulled a compass out from one of her pouches and told Weiss that she was heading west. After a small argument between the two, Pyrrha agreed with Ruby and so did Jaune. Weiss huffed and puffed but followed along.

~~~~~~~~ With Yang~~~~~~~~
After Yang was launched, she used her gauntlets to push herself up higher and farther then it should have. After having her fun, Yang forced herself down with a blast. As she raced to the ground, she landed on an Ursa major hard enough to kill it out right. As she stood from her crater, Yang glanced around while catching a arm of an Ursa and not moving. Sighing, Yang just punch/blasted the Ursa in the head. Yang just walked away as it slumped to the ground as it was turning into black particles. After a few steps, Yang stopped and pulled out a compass.
As Yang was checking her direction, Blake appeared from the tree line with a small horde of Ursas behind her. Yang just sighed and put away her compass. As she passed by Blake, Yang just nodded and casually walked towards the incoming horde. The first Ursa that attacked was leading the charge, and suffered a punch straight to the sternum accompanied by a shotgun blast. As it flew back with a new hole in its ċhėst, several blast followed with devastating force. Out of the twenty or so Ursas, a little more then half survived. The others were shaken by the blasts but kept on charging, with Yang as their new target.
Blake stopped behind Yang and used he as cover while she switched her magazine out for a dust coated one. Her weapon, Gambol Shroud, was a mix between a katana, a cleaver, a pistol-slash-Kusarigama(sickle). The blade was a smokey grey and black while the gun portion was more of a darken gunmetal grey. Jumping aside and away from Yang, Blake rapidly fired Gambol Shroud. After every impact there was a small explosion of fire.
Yang fought with a mixture of punches, kicks, and counters that broke something every time she landed a blow to an Ursa. A punch to the jaw, a broken jaw or neck. A counter to a wide swipe, a shattered limb. A kick to a knee, completely bent the wrong way. Everything was almost without wasted movement. As Yang finished what was in front of her, a Ursa came up from behind her. Yang pivoted quickly in order to throw a counter only to find a sword pierced through it's skull like it was buŧŧer. Looking up, Yang found Blake standing on it's head.
Yang: "Nice!" Yang exclaimed as Blake hopped off the disappearing Ursa. "So, it looks like we're partners!" She said with a goofy smile as she put her hands behind her head.
Blake: "Looks like it." Blake said as she scanned the surroundings for anymore Grimm.
Yang: "We're fine!" Yang said as she saw what Blake was doing. "Listen. Hear the birds and insects? When they quiet down, there's Grimm nearby." She told Blake as numerous birds and insects began to buzz and chirp again.
Blake: "Oh. I didn't know that." Blake said as she started to relax a bit but still kept her guard up.
Yang: "Well you learn a thing or two if you had Logan as your teacher." Yang said as she watched Blake and nodded at her vigilance.
Blake: "Logan taught you?" Blake asked, her ears twitched at the mention of Logan. "What's it like?"
Yang: "Well..."
~~~~~~~~ With Ruby~~~~~~~~

Ruby: "... He doesn't really teach." Ruby said after her and her group defeated a few Beowolfs.

Pyrrha: "What do you mean?" Pyrrha asked curiously as she kept Weiss and Jaune between her and Ruby.

Jaune: "How could he have taught you but didn't teach you?"

Weiss: "Sounds like a moron." Weiss said.

Ruby: "He just points you in the right direction and gave hints or points things out." Ruby explained as she glanced to the side. "He never gives you a straight answer. He makes you arrive at it yourself." Her left hand slowly reaching for her scythe.

~~~~~~~~ With Yang~~~~~~~~
Blake: "That can't be all he did!" Blake nearly shouted. "The way you moved made you look like a professional Hunter!"
Yang: "Hehehe. That's what happens when you spar almost every day for almost six years." Yang giggled and said as the two of them headed north.
Blake: "SIX YEARS!?!" Blake shouted, disturbing nearby birds that then flew away. "That's insane!"
Yang: "We know." Yang replied calmly. "It's not all that bad; he never did use the same weapon twice in the span of a month. And besides, me and Ruby got tonnes of combat experience out of it."
~~~~~~~~ With Ruby~~~~~~~~

Weiss: "While I will admit that sparing that much could provide benefits. There is no way that it could provide you that much experience!" Weiss said after she and the rest watched Ruby bisect a Boarbatusk in half during its rolling charge.

Ruby: "Well, you pick up little tricks like this when your with him." Ruby says as she stows away her scythe. "That's why I said about six years. The other two years he was busy with a lot of things."

Jaune: "Busy with what?" Jaune asked with amazement.

Weiss: "Probably goofing off." Weiss said offhandedly.

Ruby: "Well for one, he's not like that. Logan hates standing around and doing nothing for too long. You know that almanac of Grimm that was recently released? Logan had the idea for it since nobody thought of it before. He saw how under prepared Hunters were with Grimm they never seen before, he couldn't stand it and did something about it."

~~~~~~~~ With Yang~~~~~~~~
Blake: "Didn't Atlas try to take credit for that?" Blake asked as even she had a copy of the almanac they were talking about.
Yang: "Key word there is 'try'." Yang said with a bit of edge to her voice. "They want to be seen as peace-keepers. So they'll do anything to keep or improve that image." She just sighed, calming herself down. "Logan made sure they couldn't when it reached the stores and schools."
Blake: "I'm not surprised. It was Logan who made Menagerie what it is today." Blake replied with pride and wonder in her voice. "All it took was for one idea to be heard and someone to make it happen. Logan did just that."
Yang: "Yea, I can agree with that." Yang said and fist pumped the air. "Plus he's good looking to boot!"
Blake: "You'll have your work cut out for you." Blake deadpanned before saying. "Back on Menagerie, he never liked being in the Aquatic District. Some of the Faunus there don't like wearing clothes."
Yang: "Crap!"
Pyrrha: "But I'm curious about what he is like a person." Pyrrha said. "What's he like as a person?"
Ruby: "Well, he's smart, kind, thoughtful, and understanding." Ruby said while her hand and finger went to her face. "He's can also be the most ruthless monster that isn't a Grimm should you piss him off though." as she said this, the rest of the group stopped and were stunned.
Jaune: "Wait, Ruby... was that fight at breakfast.... did..." Jaune couldn't find the right words and kept stumbling over them.
Weiss: "I think the dolt trying to say, 'Was that Logan at breakfast that got into the fight with the older students?'"
Ruby: "Yes. Yes that was." Ruby said tiredly
