RWBY: Fireborn

Chapter 11 - Discovery!?!?

Logan could be seen walking through the woods to 'Unus' hours after leaving Kuo Kuana. His mind wondering about what they talked about. Logan had found out that Nicolas Schnee was a supporter of Faunus rights and seemingly 'appointed' Jacques Schnee, his son-in-law. And his new mission "Rise, Fall, and Return!".

Logan: 'Damn!! I didn't think that the hidden factors of this world were so many. I could guess some of them from what the show hinted at, but I never would have expected that Kuo Kuana had ties to the Schnee Dust Company. I really should have seen that in hindsight. It was confirmed that the Schnee household's library was burned down by a Faunus. Now I get a hidden mission that I can't even see the details of. *Sigh* I need to get to Atlas at least to inform General Ironwood that Kuo Kuana is stabilizing, but with all the Anti-Faunus Laws are making it difficult to make trade routes. He, at least, is understanding enough that he will try to make it easier for Kuo Kuana to thrive. Hell, he might even try to broker a deal with Atlas Military and Kuo Kuana for a trade agreement.'

Logan's mind wondered as he walked. He never even realized that he had walked off the path that lead back to 'Unus'. Now Logan was walking in somewhat uncharted woods. By the time he came out of his thoughts, he was standing at the edge of a cliff. Behind him, a sea of trees and brush. Below him, a wide opening leading to a massive valley of trees and boulders spread out. As Logan continued to stare at the valley, he couldn't help but feel something, something useful about this valley. It was as if he could feel a pull that lead into it. Taking his scroll out, Logan found out that he wasn't that far from 'Unus', only a few miles, three at most. Deciding to make a call to his father, Azrael, was necessary before he continued, Logan did so.

Azrael: "Hello? Logan? You never call."

Logan: "Yea... I just found something... Some place... I'll be home late... I don't know why, but I feel a pull to the place I just found..."

Azrael: "Logan? You okay son?"

Logan: "Sorry. I think whatever I found could help us. I'll send you my location. This is surreal."

Azrael: "Logan?-"

Logan hung up. The feeling of the pull was too great, Logan quickly sent his location to his father. Taking a few steeps back, Logan took off his shirt revealing a tattoo that took up most of his back in the shape of his old wings. Throwing his shirt into his [Void Storage], Logan spread his new ash wings and ran towards the edge of the cliff. As he reached the edge, Logan jumped with all his strength, throwing himself as far as he could and taking flight. Logan flew for a few meters before slowly gliding down into the valley.

Upon reaching the valley floor Logan landed and folded his ash wings back. Logan roamed around the valley, searching for that mysterious pull he felt. Finally after searching for a few minutes, Logan came across a large boulder. To other, it was just a large, nondescript rock. But to Logan, he could feel a large amount of heat coming from inside the boulder. As if the rock it self contained hellfire inside it. Taking part of his ash wings and forming a pick-axe, Logan swung at the boulder with all the force he could muster with both hands. As the pick connected against the surface of the boulder, bȧrėly any sort of crack appeared. Undiscouraged, Logan swung again and again; seconds gave way to minutes that soon became hours before Logan managed to break off a fist sized chunk from the boulder.

Logan: 'It's been three hours I think. And all I've got to show for it is a fist sized chunk? Ether I'm very weak, or this rock is stupidly hard.' Logan thought while he breathed heavily.

Logan held the chunk in his hand as he stared at the boulder that was giving him trouble. His mind wonder why it was so hard to break for an unassuming piece of earth. Logan then looked to the ash made pick in his other hand. Logan had taken a good portion of his wings to form this pick he had. The image he had in his head that the pick had formed from had little to no difference to each other. They each had a 3ft handle and a single rock pick at the head that had a point. The only difference was that one was steel and the other was ash.

Logan: 'Wait... Ash?' Logan dropped the chunk of rock and facepalmed himself. "I'M A FUCKING IDIOT!" 'Ash has carbon for fuċks sake! Steel is an alloy of Iron and Carbon! I've just been forming and compressing the ash as is! If I focus on the ash as a whole, I use more aura then I need. I need to focus on the carbon more!'

Logan sighed at his stupidly. As Logan dissipated the pick-axe, it flowed like water back into his ash wings. He then started to focus on his wings, mostly the parts that contained carbon. Slowly raising his hand, Logan began to form the pick once again from scratch. His ash wings stretched out from his back started to eerily glow. Slowly, like water, his wings shrunk and started to form in his hand as a pick-axe with a dark ŀuster. It floated in front of his out stretched hand, just out of reach of his fingertips. Logan opened his eyes and gazed at his creation. As his hand closed around the pick, gravity suddenly returned to it as the weight caused Logan to nearly drop it.

Logan: "Woah.. Heavier then I though."

Logan took the pick and swung it a few times to get used to the weight. After a few minutes, Logan once again approached the boulder with renewed determination. His dėsɨrė to find out what drew him here burning inside him. Taking a deep breath, in and out, Logan raised the new pick above his head and brought it down with great force.

Sophia: "Are you sure he's fine, dear? It's already dusk and he hasn't come back yet."

Ava: "Yea! Where is he? I want to play with him!"

Eva: "Mm!"

Azrael: "Don't worry, Logan will be fine. I got a call from him earlier and he seemed to have found something. Whatever he found is most likely keeping him occupied longer then he expected. Even if something happened to him, Logan will be fine. After all, he's far stronger then most teenagers and some ȧduŀts. Plus, his semblance is very useful as he can store things on his body. Him and I had already made a survival bag in case he needed one. So he is prepared for a night in the woods."

Sophia: "Still, I don't like it... I'm worried. It's getting late."

Ava: "I wanna play!"

Eva: "Play!"

As the twins said this, they proceeded to jump on their father and demand to play again and again. Soon they got their mother involved as well.

Azrael: "FINE! You asked for it!" Azrael roared as he jumped up.

Soon the small group of four began play and fool around with each other. All while one of them worried about Logan who wasn't there to enjoy this with them. A few hours passed and soon the group of four started to eat dinner as the sun had set and night was upon them. Sophia was cleaning dishes as it was her turn. Azrael was reading to Ava and Eva as the two unwound for the night. Soon the two kids fell asleep on the couch, Azrael and Sophia took them to bed.

As the two of them descended the stairs back down to the living room, what they saw surprised them. They found Logan asleep just passed the door of the house. As the got to him, they found him mumbling about 'Fire Opals' and 'Dragon's Breath Opals'. They both new what they were, but seeing his state, they just picked him up and carried him to his bed as they could tell he was dead tired.
