RWBY: Fireborn

Chapter 100 - Atlas (3)

Ironwood: "Are you sure it's ours?" Ironwood asked with fear in his voice.

Winter: "Unfortunately sir, it is." Winter replied seriously. "The markings are there and numerous pieces of what was left of the core, all match. These drones are our prototypes from the Great War that went missing. And from the state of it, even after its battle with Mr. Scarlett, it almost seems to have been kept maintained ever since."

.

Ironwood and Winter stood inside Ironwood's office. Both dreading the fallout should it come to light that Old Atlas tech attacked the only SSS ranked Hunter. While Logan never really care about it, his opinion could destroy a Kingdom should he say it. It was only due to his professional demeanor that kept it from happening. But, right now, Ironwood was feeling fear that this might cause a mass panic if the people of Remnant believed that Atlas was attacking.

.

Ironwood: "This isn't good." Ironwood sighed.

Winter: "Do you wish for me to call him, or will you handle it?" Winter asked.

Ironwood: "I will." Ironwood said after some thought. "I'm the General. If anyone should deliver the news, it should be me. That way if Logan should feel... upset, he might at least be reasonable if I tell him the truth about the matter."

Winter: 'I wonder if I should start looking for a new job...' Winter thought as she just stared at Ironwood who dismiss her.

.

[With Logan]

.

Logan: "And that's why you shouldn't underestimate someone based on their looks or equipment." Logan said to the tired and beaten looks of his students. "Cardboard Knight, thank you for the help. I'll wire the money to your account later on tonight."

.

The person known as Cardboard Knight, someone covered head to toe in cardboard with a shield and sword made from it as well, nodded their head and left soon after. Logan had brought the person, he didn't know their gender and never asked, and had them fight his class due to their semblance, Scales. Simply put, it reverses the scales of anything that touches them.

Logan chuckled at the memory he had of fighting CK, and how much of a pain in the ȧss it was to pin them after mistaking them for attacking a caravan.

.

Yang: "Remind me to never get on his bad side." Yang ġrȯȧnėd out from the mass of students struggling to get up.

Jaune: "I thought he was a she." Jaune grunted as he sat up. "With that flexibility and how dainty his hands were."

Logan: "I never asked and CK never told me." Logan said as he spread out his golden flames to each of the students. "And honestly, CK never talked in the first place either so I couldn't tell by voice. So I just always called CK, CK"

.

Once all the students were back to being healthy and uninjured, Logan had them leave to go change into their combat outfits and meet him back at the amphitheater arena for Glynda's lesson he had to teach since she was called by Salem.

.

After a few minutes, those that had Glynda's lesson arrived and sat in the bleachers.

Logan: "Alright, today's lesson is about how to use improvised weapons when you've lost your main one." Logan read out from Glynda's lesson sheet. "For this lesson, I'll randomly select two people to duel while one is chosen by a coin flip to wield a random object that will be selected as well," Logan shouted to the students.

.

First up was Jaune Arc, who had to use a steel folding chair, versus Random Student A who used a sword that transformed into a chainsaw sword.

.

As soon as the fight started, the Random Student A (RSA) attacked hard and fast with precise strikes aimed to disarm Jaune. Jaune for his part; kited and parried RSA around the best he could until he had a crazy idea. Quickly backing off, Jaune baited RSA to switch to his chainsaw sword and strike. As soon as he did, Jaune used the chair's legs to catch the sword and disarm RSA in one fluid motion before bashing his skull in with the chair. Once RSA's aura was in the red, Logan called the match in Jaune's favor.

.

Up next was Nora Valkyrie versus Random Student B (RSB). Nora got to use her hammer and RSB had to use a brick. The match ended very quickly when RSB just decided to throw the brick as hard as she could at Nora. Nora, just played baseball and shot the brick back into RSB'S face and knocking her out cold. Logan had to stop himself from laughing when RSB did a full backflip from the impact. The best part was that she never moved from her starting position.

.

The Third Match was Weiss versus Ren with Weiss getting stuck using a swordfish as a weapon.

As the match started, Weiss took off using the swordfish just as well as she did with her weapon, Myrtenaster. Ren did his best to keep her at bay and whittle her down with his weapon, Stormflower. But Weiss was too fast as she used her glyphs to speed herself up and get several good hits on him. Taking a gamble, Ren waited until she got close before dropping his weapon and grabbing the swordfish to try and disarm Weiss. However, Weiss used this chance to let go of the swordfish and grab Stormflower off the ground. From there, Weiss stayed away from Ren and dropped his aura into the red by continuously firing into Ren.

.

After calling the match, Logan congratulated Weiss on her quick thinking of grabbing Ren's discarded weapon. Dismissing them, Logan called the next match.

.

The fourth match was Ruby versus Pyrrha. Ruby got stuck using a sock that had a bar of soap in it.

.

Even with all the training Logan had given her when they were younger, Ruby lost. Pyrrha just cut the sock as soon as it came close enough. With just a piece of cut fabric left in her hand, Ruby couldn't do much to a combatant as skill as Pyrrha.

.

The fifth match came around with Blake using a tin cup versus Random Student C getting to use his weapon, a bladed double-barrel shotgun.

Blake had a deadpan look on her face as she faced RSC with a tin cup in hand. RSC just had a giant smirk on his face as he faced Blake while also openly ogling her body. As soon as the match started, Blake vanished and kicked RSC in the groin as hard as she could. When RSC grabbed his groin after the kick, Blake just wailed on his head. Logan had to step in when Blake when she went for an unprotected hit to his groin when RSC's broke. Though she did manage to get a quick snap kick to his groin when Logan looked away to get one of RSC teammates to take him away.

.

Logan: "Okay! Since we only have time for one more match, I go with whoever wants to!" Logan spoke loudly after Random Student C was taken to get some ice. "I'll take the random object for anyone who is curious about it."

.

In the end, Team RWBY decided to be the ones that took the offer. As they got ready, Logan went and picked up his improvised weapon, a bench. Two members of RWBY paled at the sight of Logan, who was currently twirling the bench like a baton, as an old memory overlapped with their sight.

.

Yang: "I would rather face him using the brick." Yang whispered to her sister.

Ruby: "I'd take the frying pan." Ruby replied. "At least then I would be able to do something."

.

Logan: "Let's move it, ladies!" Logan shouted from the area. "Let's get this match started so you'll have time to change before your next class!"

.

Yang: "Welp, off to our execution!~" Yang said sarcastically.

Blake: "Come on, Yang. It won't be that bad." Blake retorted.

Yang: "Are you sure about that?" Yang deadpanned.

Weiss: "You're overreacting." Weiss scoffed."

Ruby: "She's not." Ruby sighed in defeat. "Just prepare for Logan to tear us a new one."

.

As soon as Team RWBY got down into the area and got ready, Logan started a countdown. When the countdown ended, Logan stood in the center of the area while RWBY surrounded him on four sides. Logan calmly sat the bench down and waited for one of Team RWBY to move first.

.

Weiss was the first to start by covering the ground in ice With Yang jumping up and creating a fog cover with their team move, 'Freezerburn'. Logan never moved and waited until he felt one of the four to move with his [Presence Detection]. He soon felt Blake move into his blind spot and charge at him. As Blake came into his range, Logan quickly turned the bench longways, pointing at her, and slide down onto one end; lifting one side up into the air. Blake didn't catch sight of it until it hit her right in the chin and sent her airborne. Yang came rushing directly at Logan's front with a heel drop. Logan stood quickly and turned to the side as Yang's heel came down on the end of the bench. She ended up getting a face full of a bench.

.

As Yang stumbled back after her face met a bench, Logan grabbed the upturned end and knocked away Ruby's scythe as it came for his head. As Ruby stumbled from the unexpected blow, Logan twirled the bench as Weiss came in with a swipe aimed at Logan's legs. With a twirl, Logan smack away her attack but she managed to dodge backward as Yang come from the side with a smashing hook to Logan's body. Logan held onto the bench with two hands and redirected Yang's punch into Blake's hidden pincer move. Yang hit Blake's midsection and sent her flying out of the area and into the bleachers above.

.

Logan: "Well, Blake's out." Logan commented helplessly as he spotted her aura go red while dodging Yang's frenzied blows.

.

Logan then ducked under a swift stab from Weiss and then a hop over Ruby's scythe aimed at his leg; the bench still in hand. Waving the bench in one hand, Logan smacked Weiss's weapon from her hand and redirected another one of Yang's blows. Weiss was unfortunately in the path of said blow and was knocked out of the area.

.

As Ruby and Yang grouped together to try to regain some sense of solidarity as the fog finally added. Both stood on guard as Logan sat down on the bench facing them. Deciding to antagonize them, Logan crossed one of his legs over his knee and rested his elbow on his legs while his face was in his hand. Add in one condescending smile and the result is both Ruby and Yang being very annoyed.

.

Logan: "Well? Come on-" Logan went to say but was cut off by the dismissal bell for classes. "Next time then. Alright, you're dismissed! And don't be late for your next class!" Logan shouted as he left the area with the bench under his arm while the other was answering his scroll that started ringing.

.

Answering the call, Ironwood spoke. The entire conversation was about the drones that attacked Logan. Ironwood openly apologized to Logan for the oversight as the drones that attacked him went missing during the Great War and no search teams were sent out to look for them. Logan just sighed deeply and told him to just let it go for now and focus on where and who had them. Logan rather not have this happen again after all. Ironwood agreed with the sentiment and soon hung up after finishing up telling Logan what they found.

.

Once the call was over, Logan made his way into the parking garage and headed towards his pod on the second floor. Inside, he took one of the flak drones out of his [Inventory] and set it down on the floor. After sending a message to Ozpin, asking to meet him in his pod, Logan got to work disassembling the drone. Armor, weapons, and the cores to it were the first things he removed before he started to examine the inner workings. By the time Ozpin arrived with Glynda and Salem in tow, Logan had pulled out a computer and started to look over the coding of the drone's core.

.

Ozpin: "I'm guessing that this is what you asked to see me is about?" Ozpin asked after greeting Logan.

Logan: "Yeah." Logan sighed. "Apparently, this drone here is one of Atlas' drone prototypes from the Great War. I just got off the phone with Ironwood not that long ago."

Salem: "It's in remarkably good condition for its age." Salem mused as she looked over the drone's body. "It wouldn't be too far of a guess that someone has been maintaining this drone."

Logan: "You would be right, this one along with the four hundred or so others like it." Logan said, his eyes not leaving the computer screen. They attacked me after I left Atlas not that long ago."

Glynda: "You okay?" Glynda asked as she sat down next to Logan while Ozpin and Salem look over the drone.

Logan: "Just tired." Logan said as he rubbed his eyes. "I just feel like there is always something that just makes things harder and harder."

.

Glynda said nothing but started to rub Logan's back while leaning against him.

.

Ozpin: "As much as I'd like to leave the two of you alone, I can't." Ozpin spoke, breaking Logan and Glynda out of their moment. "Logan, how many of these drones did you manage to grab before you called Atlas?"

Logan: "The entire force except for a few that were turned to ash." Logan said, holding onto Glynda's hand. "I got them all inside my void-storage (Inventory). I just pulled this one out to see if I can't find anything Ironwood's guys might have missed."

Salem: "There is one I've noticed." Salem said.

Logan: "Magic." Logan spoke before Salem did.

.

Salem: "Yes, they have trace amounts of magic on them." Salem explained. "I can just make out a spell matrix that was hastily removed."

Ozpin: "I see." Ozpin spoke before entering into a deep thought process. "From the records of the Great War, there were once extreme range prototype drones Atlas once tried to make but were unsuccessful due to it being extremely resource-heavy. Logan, remember the Vital Dance?"

Logan: "Yea, I still remember the hole I got during then. Why?" Logan had a feeling he knew where Ozpin was going.

Ozpin: "That prototype could be the one that shot you." Ozpin explained. "If that prototype is missing from Atlas, then that could be the culprit to the attack."

.

The more Logan thought about it, the more it seemed possible. But one thing was left uncertain.

.

Logan: "If that prototype was the cause, then the mastermind behind this is also related to the mage Alica, the massive summoning circle, and possibly the blue-eyed Grimms as well." Logan stated, causing all those present eyes to widen in surprise.

Ozpin: "This war is far deeper than we once thought I fear." Ozpin said solemnly.

.

.

A/N: I was going to do a Halloween chapter but I just didn't have the time to write it for one. And two, I suck at making anything spooky or horror filled. Plus, the story line I had just didn't fit in anywhere too. Now on to the important part.

I want to end this story.

No, I'm not gonna drop this. I just feel like I've almost just finished the course of Logan Scarlett as a story. And I just rather end on a good note rather then stretching this out for far too long.

The story of Logan Scarlett will still go on for a while, just enough so that I can wrap up some plot points and unresolved ideas that I left unanswered before one massive final arc. For that, I won't spoil anything for it (I can't as I don't have an outline for it yet).

That's all, please leave any comments below and I'll do my best to answer them.
