Chapter 54: Guardians of the Divine Sword

The old man from the sky was obviously an NPC. Despite his gray hair and long beard, he looked to be in good spirits. The set of red and yellow armor he wore was rather good-looking, it made Li Huailin cast admiring glances towards it.

A two-handed sword was behind his back and made him look like a warrior. In addition to the way the old man arrived, his entrance also made him look like an expert. Li Huailin could see the green name above his head, Isaac Fernando.

Isaac didn’t look very friendly. Perhaps it was because Li Huailin just touched the sword, Li Huailin could feel clear hostility from the old man’s words.

“So it was you who touched the divine sword?” Isaac took a quick glance at Li Huailin from head to toe, he spoke in a straightforward manner, “You can’t lie to me, boy! I can tell from your eyes whether you’re lying or not. Answer me!”

“I find old NPCs like you the most annoying. Stop showing off! You were just born a few years earlier than me,wWhen I reach Level 100, I can slay you within a second!” Li Huailin brushed off the dust from his shoulders and casually continued, “Yes, I touched it. Why would I lie in the first place? What do you want?”

“How dare you, mortal flesh! How dare you profane this divine item!” Isaac gave a sudden roar.

In an instant, the look on Isaac’s face changed and became a bit friendlier.

“Nice work!” He said. “You touched the divine sword without my consent. This shows courage.”

“This is nothing. I can even spend your money, live in your house, sleep with your wife, and beat up your kid. What can you do to me?” Li Huailin said casually.

System Notice: You insulted Isaac Fernando. The Favorability of the guardian of the divine sword, Isaac Fernando, towards you has been increased by 10. Current Favorability: Respectful.

The look on Isaac’s face became much more friendlier now.

“Nice job, my little friend,” He continued. “I underestimated you. You’re even more outstanding than I expected.”

“Stop flattering me. This isn’t something I should be bragging about. Please don’t praise me. I just can’t stand praise.” Li Huailin patted Isaac on the shoulder.

“I didn’t expect that you’re such a respectable person. I was going to give you a few tasks to test you, but now, they seem totally unnecessary.” Isaac nodded with satisfaction. “To tell you the truth, my friend. I am now old and my days of guarding the divine sword are numbered. I wonder if you would like to inherit my will and guard this divine sword named Cyruda.”

System Notice: Isaac Fernando has invited you to join the group, “Guardians of the Divine Sword”. Do you agree?

“Guardians of the Divine Sword?” Li Huailin had never heard of this group before. There was even no relevant post on the forum. And Li Huailin had never seen the group in the main city.

“What is this group?” Li Huailin asked.

“The Guardians of the Divine Sword is a group that exists to protect the divine sword,” Isaac seriously replied. “Our faith is to protect the divine sword with our lives. The birth of the divine sword always results in the turmoil of the world, no matter who becomes its owner. Even those whose only wish is the peace of the world are no exceptions. Therefore, we must stop anyone who attempts to touch the divine sword!”

Li Huailin couldn’t understand this strange cult at all. He asked him more questions, “How many people are there in this group then?”

“When I joined the group 3 years ago, there were about 90 members, and now, we probably have a few more,” Isaac responded.

“Sh*t! You only have about 90 people across the whole continent? What are you guys even doing here? It’s said that the Church has more than a 100 million followers! A small branch from the Church can easily destroy all of you.” Li Huailin almost almost coughed out blood. They sounded like a small village that was trying to make itself a nation.

“The Light Church? Hum!” Issac snorted. “We’re not afraid of them!”

“Oh?”

It seemed that Isaac disliked the Church a lot. In this case, the Guardians of the Divine Sword must be against the Church then? If Li Huailin joined the group, this meant that over 100 million church followers would turn hostile and chase him around. Li Huailin could die anytime he wanted in this way!

Li Huailin nodded and said, “I think you’re right. I should join the Guardians of the Divine Sword.”

“Do you really want to join Guardians of the Divine Sword and devote everything you have to the divine sword, even your life?” Isaac asked seriously.

“Of course!” Li Huailin answered without hesitation. The thing he wanted to devote the most to the divine sword was his life, it wasn’t a lie at all.

System Notice: You have joined “Guardians of the Divine Sword”. Reputation of Guardians of the Divine Sword is now available.

“Very good, my little friend. You’re now one of us. I’ll send your information back to our headquarters,” Isaac said with a smile. “This is our badge. You can wear it to tell others who you are.”

Isaac handed Li Huailin a red badge on, it had the shape of a shield.

“We’re the shields of the divine sword. This is our group’s faith.” Isaac pointed at the badge and informed Li Huailin.

Guardians of the Divine Sword Badge: Cannot be traded. Cannot be destroyed. Cannot be dropped. Usage: Sends a user to the entrance of the Cyruda Altar. Cooldown time: 3 days.

The badge was a piece of equipment and didn’t have any stats. Li Huailin could wear it in front of his chest or put it in his bag. However, to save a slot, Li Huailin decided to wear it.

“My little friend, since you’re still weak right now. I have a quest for you when you reach Level 30. Come to me later,” Isaac said to Li Huailin.

“I need to come back?” Li Huailin asked.

“I need to guard Cyruda, the Divine Sword of Fire. I can’t leave this place. You have to be the one to complete the mission.” Isaac continued, “The quest is about a Hidden Class. You’ll find it very helpful.”

“A Hidden Class?” Li Huailin was quite surprised. A Hidden Class sounded very tempting and wasn’t something like a piece of equipment that could be dropped at any time. He knew that he needed to complete the quest even if it meant he had to lose some experience.

“This is all I can tell you right now. You’re still too weak for this quest right now.” Isaac looked at him with gentle eyes. “When you are strong enough, the quest will be given to you.”

“I see. You’re not a bad guy at all.” Li Huailin nodded and patted on Isaac’s shoulder.
