Chapter 30: Compensation

“Everybody! Attention! This quack just poisoned me twice! A single bottle of his toxic potion took away my life in 10 seconds! This is incredibly cruel! How can a human heart be so sinister?!” Li Huailin stood in front of Old Ed’s door and roared bitterly.

“We can talk, boy. Please, let’s talk!” Old Ed quickly dragged Li Huailin into the house again.

“We have nothing to talk about! You poisoned me once earlier, but since that wasn’t enough, you poisoned me again! ‘I can’t watch you die in front of me’— My ass! You’re a murderer!”

Li Huailin was actually extremely happy inside. He died twice so easily and gained so much experience. However, he was still thinking of a plan to get the recipe out from Old Ed.

“T-this…” Old Ed truly didn’t know what went wrong. He was really innocent. “W-why don’t we try again?”

“And now you want to poison me for the third time?” Li Huailin said to Old Ed with a cold stare.

“I really didn’t make any poison!” Old Ed said aloud and tried to sound more reliable. However, he suddenly lowered his voice to a mumble and continued, “Maybe there was a little accident since I haven’t practiced for a long time…”

“So you were testing your potions?! A single dose was toxic enough to kill me! How can you be so cruel?” Li Huailin said with a righteous demeanor, “Tell me how you plan to compensate me. I’ll give you a chance and give me a few hundred bottles of this potion. I’ll forget about this matter once you do so.”

“A few… A few hundred bottles?!” Old Ed nearly spat out blood. “I don’t have nearly enough ingredients for that many. Maybe we can do it this way— I’ll give you a quest to collect the ingredients, and after bringing them back, I’ll make the potion for you. You’ll also gain lots of experience this way, you’ll earn much more than what you lost.”

Obviously, Li Huailin wouldn’t agree to this. First off, collecting the ingredients was extremely troublesome. Second, completing a quest would make him lose a lot of experience instead. The reason why he was doing this in the first place was to gain experience, there was no way that he would agree to such a thing where he would lose a ton of experience in the first place!

“I won’t accept the quest. If you don’t want to give me the potions, you’d better kill me right now! Heed my words, I’ll come here every day. You’ll have to kill me at least ten times from now on!” Li Huailin said in a serious tone. If Old Ed was willing to kill him, then this would be a really good solution. He wouldn’t even have to drink potions anymore.

“How can I do such a thing?!” Old Ed was sweating all over. If he didn’t do as the player said, he would definitely fall into endless trouble. Everyone knew that these players could simply respawn. “T-that’s right! With all the ingredients I have right now, I can make about a dozen bottles. I can give them to you without sending a quest!”

“Only a dozen?” Li Huailin frowned. A dozen bottles of that potion could only net him an increase of a single level. Of course he wasn’t satisfied with this.

“I’ll also give you the recipe for the potion. You can start learning alchemy and make it on your own in the future,” Old Ed hurriedly continued when he saw Li Huailin frown.

“I’m not learning any alchemy. I’m not interested in those kinds of things at all.” Li Huailin waved his hand. Investing time in his Supporting Classes was a tragedy to him. His level of proficiency would only grow lower every time he tried. This meant he would remain as a lifetime apprentice.

“Then you can give it to your friend who’s studying alchemy instead! He can make the medicine for you,” Old Ed said immediately.

“Huh?” Li Huailin was a little astonished at first, he then suddenly found that what this guy was saying was right. A few hundred bottles of the potion wouldn’t last forever. However, getting the recipe and finding an alchemist to make the potion for him was a way better solution.

It seemed that he didn’t know any friends who dabbled in alchemy, Li Huailin started thinking to himself. What about the Spiritual World guild? They weren’t any good. They were so big that even though he would give them the recipe, all the potions made would be prioritized for the leading pioneer raiders, not him.

What about those women then? Li Huailin’s eyes suddenly lit up. They should also have alchemists, right?. Their guild was quite small and the number of their main forces who recently reached level 15 was lower than 5. Although they still needed to support their pioneer raiders, their consumption would be quite low. The rest of the potions would belong to Li Huailin.

After thinking of this, Li Huailin nodded. He turned to Old Ed and said, “Well, your words do make sense. I’m gonna do you a favor and accept it.”

“Do me a favor…” Old Ed was on the edge of going mad. He spent his entire life on developing this recipe, but this boy was unbelievably arrogant.

After calming down, Old Ed started working. He was of course, still a master of alchemy able to produce potions in batches. He could make up to 10 bottles at a time. Very soon, he completed all the potions he was able to make.

“Take them,” Old Ed said with great heartache. The ingredients used for these were very precious.

Li Huailin then kept them in his storage. There were a total of 14 bottles of Advanced Fountain of Life Potion and 3 bottles of Super Fountain of Life Potion, alongside three recipes.

Recipe—Fountain of Life Potion: Restores 2% of Health Points per second for 40 seconds. Attacks will interrupt the healing effect. Acquisition: Medium-grade Alchemy (The required ingredients are shown after the recipe is learned).

Recipe—Advanced Fountain of Life Potion: Restores 5% of Health Points per second for 25 seconds. Attacks will interrupt the healing effect. Acquisition: Advanced-grade Alchemy.

Recipe—Super Fountain of Life Potion: Restores 10% of Health Points per second for 12 seconds. Attacks will interrupt the healing effect. Acquisition: Master-grade Alchemy.

This was such a great deal for Li Huailin, as they were much more reliable than some random Health Potions.

“Take them and leave. I feel I’m having a heart attack.” Old Ed didn’t want Li Huailin to stay any longer.

“Hey, old man, if it weren’t for my good mood today, I would have slapped your face.” Li Huailin smiled as he said this, “Well, it seems that you’ve given me everything you have, I don’t have time to chat with you any longer. Take a good rest. I’m leaving.”

“Hurry up!” Old Ed bellowed at Li Huailin’s words and drove him out of the house.

“What a bad day…” After seeing Li Huailin leave, Old Ed scratched his head with confusion. “What went wrong with my potion? It’s so strange. I have to figure it out.”

With this said, Old Ed went back to his study and began researching once more.

“It looks like I need to get in touch with those women,” Li Huailin murmured to himself. Since it was impossible for him to learn alchemy, he would give these recipes to those women. This was also based on the premise that he would be given a certain amount of potions every month. In this way, he didn’t need to worry too much about leveling up in the future.

When he was just about to contact Red Moon, the leader of the guild, someone called him first. Li Huailin looked at the name. It was Red Face Drinks Water.

Li Huailin was a bit surprised by this coincidence. He picked up the call.

“Brother-in-law!” Red Face Drinks Water’s voice instantly boomed out. “Brother-in-law, are you done with your business? Are you busy right now?”

“Not really. I’m just wandering around in the main city. What is it?” Li Huailin asked.

“Brother-in-law, come and carry us in the dungeon, will you? After you left, we entered the dungeon again. It was a tragedy! I died 4 times! I’m so close to falling back to level 14 now,” Red Face Drinks Water said sorrowly. “This dungeon is so difficult. After you left, it suddenly became unbelievably difficult. Sister Moon’s Health Points kept going up and down. I don’t have time to take care of all of them at all.”

“You ladies are still in that dungeon…?” Li Huailin smiled. “I’m also looking for Red Moon. Stay there and I’ll be with you ladies shortly.”

“Really? Brother-in-law is the best!” Red Face Drinks Water happily said.
