3. Cao Mo Has Received a Scholar Name

Translator: Sissy That Walk

Cao Mo felt a bit sorry, he shook his head and said “Such a shame she likes to run her mouth and defame people.”

Xiao Yi’s lips curled, he asked Cao Mo gently, “Do you really know the craftsmanship of making a mirror?”

Cao Mo yawned and nodded, he opened his eyes with some effort, “Why would I lie about that? It takes some time though, if it’s really that rare, I’m keen to make some for some quick cash.”

Xiao Yi interrupted him, “Don’t mention this to anyone, if anyone asks you what happened to the mirror, you just… …”

Xiao Yi whispered at Cao Mo’s ear, but Cao Mo had no reaction.

Xiao Yi patted Cao Mo on the shoulder only to find Cao Mo fell asleep.

Xiao Yi touched Cao Mo on his cheek and was more certain this young man had nothing to do with that scheming Lu.

Xiao Yi asked a younger maid to bring one more quilt for Cao Mo and with that he decided to call it a day.

The next morning, Cao Mo woke up in a good mood, what met his eyes was a beautiful pale man, he sat up straight and thought for a while.

Xiao Yi was a light sleeper, he sensed the movement and opened his eyes, “Are you awake? How did you sleep last night?”

Cao Mo smiled awkwardly, “Yeah, sorry I didn’t even know when I fell asleep last night, have I snored? Was I annoying?”

Xiao Yi smiled, “No, you are fine. Do you want to get up now?”

Cao Mo was served by several maids which he didn’t appreciate, but Xiao Yi insisted certain rules must be followed in this family.

Xiao Yi looked much more gentle than the day before, “Don’t worry, you will get used to it soon.”

Cao Mo was seated by the dressing table now, a maid was combing his hair gently, he looked at Xiao Yi and said, “You look better than yesterday.”

“Is that so?” Xiao Yi rolled to the side of the bed and signaled Cao Mo to support him to get up.

Xiao Yi relied on Cao Mo’s chest, Cao Mo thought that was too intimate for he could almost feel Xiao Yi’s breath.

The maid was done combing Cao Mo’s hair and she asked Cao Mo to pick a hairpin.

Cao Mo was at a loss, he turned to Xiao Yi, “Which one should I pick?”

Xiao Yi took a closer look at the ornament drawer and picked a green jade hairpin with magnolia carvings, “How about this one?”

Cao Mo had absolutely no idea about this, he had been a nerd his whole life, he just smiled awkwardly, “Well, better than a rubber band I guess, it looks pricy though.”

Xiao Yi said gently, “It suits you well.”

Cao Mo missed his short spikes hair.

“Do you have a scholar name?” asked Xiao Yi.

“My name is Cao Mo.” answered Cao Mo in a silly way.

“I’m Xiao Yi (means unrestrained), my scholar name is Zi’an (means peaceful), you can call me by my scholar name if you prefer. Do you mind me giving you a scholar name if you don’t have one?” asked Xiao Yi with tenderness in his eyes, Cao Mo felt a bit uncomfortable, he felt like he was a puppy waiting to be named.

Before Cao Mo replied, Xiao Yi murmured, “Your name is Mo (means silence), how about Yin’zhi (means eremitic)?”

Cao Mo didn’t mind much, he chuckled, “Sounds good.”

Xiao Yi was a bit disappointed by Cao Mo’s reaction, ‘why isn’t he excited about the scholar name I gave him?’

The maid wanted to powder Cao Mo up, Cao Mo shook his head, “I might have to skip the powder!”

The maid giggled, which amused Cao Mo as well, he asked, “What’s your name?”

The maid was good at reading the context, she knew Bailu would be driven out, she figured this could be her opportunity, she answered in a delightful voice, “My name is Xue’er (means snow), do I have the honor to ask Madam to grant me a new name?”

Cao Mo had no idea it was considered as an honor to be granted a name by the master, he just didn’t have the heart to refuse the girl now that she had asked for it, he thought for a while, “You have a lovely name already, but if you want a new one, how about Qingxue (means sparkling snowflake reflecting the sunlight)?”

Xiao Yi asked with great interest, “Oh? Why Qingxue?”

Cao Mo recalled a poem he once read, “All the scholars gathered together illuminating the Jade Hall, like sparkling snowflake on the plum blossoms reflecting the sunlight.”

Xiao Yi was more than satisfied seeing his wife reciting poems, he was glad that Lu had miscalculated and arranged him such a great wife.

Qingxue kowtowed to Cao Mo, “Thank you so much for granting me the honor, Madam, may you and Young Master lead a happy life forever and blessed with a lot of children and grandchildren!”

The other maids in the room suppressed their laughter.

It took Cao Mo a little while to realize why other maids laughed, he was a man, how could he possibly give birth to kids!

Cao Mo turned around and looked at Xiao Yi, “I couldn’t help with the kids part, it looks like you need to marry a woman.”

Qing Xue smiled shyly, “I’m happy to help.”

“Ah~” answered Cao Mo with a meaningful tone, his eyes flickered, he looked at Xiao Yi and said, “What a good maid you have!”

Xiao Yi’s face darkened, “You may leave the room now, don’t enter my room without my order.”

Qing Xue pouted and withdrew.

Soon a maid outside announced, “Mammy Wang is here.”

“Ask Mammy Wang to come in, I feel so much better today, I might as well go pay greetings to the Lady today, I need to thank her for arranging me such a good wife.” replied Xiao Yi, and he meant to thank Lu because he was quite happy about his wife.

Xiao Yi thought he and Cao Mo were made for each other, their fates were both controlled by other people.

Mammy Wang brought Bailu with her, “Look, Mammy, I didn’t lie, the mirror is broken, look at the floor.”

Mammy Wang felt encouraged, “Young Master, pardon me for nagging you, you and The Lordship Marquis Valour are the only two who are using mirrors in the whole mansion, it’s self-evident how precious it is, but now it’s in pieces, from the little bit I know, the mirror was broken by Madam!”

Cao Mo felt his hand was caught hold of when he was about to defend himself, it was Xiao Yi, he whispered at his ear, “I will protect you.”

Cao Mo felt Xiao Yi’s hand was so feeble and cold, yet he felt great strength from the grip, he said, “Thank you, I remember you said servant who shows disrespect to the masters shall receive punishments from being sold to being beaten to death, this old woman is courting death then.”
