Naruto - A Cursed System

Chapter 55 - Curing Gambling Addictions

Gazing at the neighborhood not so far away was Yukio. He was sitting on top of the Kazekage Building as he held a wooden mask in his hands. It resembled the face of the monster that had targeted the man the night before.

"That took the entire night... I need to try something else."

Yukio was the figure that infiltrated the man's house last night. He had used the sandslash figurine to look for the house and quietly enter it.

Nearly everything that had happened to the man last night was related to genjutsu. From the 'persuasive' whispers to the mouths filled with eyes to his reflection being that of the monster. Yukio also utilized chakra threads to restrain the man, mimicking the effects of paralyzation.

The goal for this entire event was to have the man ruin his own life by taking his own life. Although the man's brother nearly prevented it, Yukio still manage to trick the man into killing himself.

However, the entire night wasted a substantial amount of chakra. He could have spent it more efficiently, but that's in the past now.

Thenceforth, he decided not to create any more events and focus on another cheaper way to ruin lives. However, while he was contemplating what to do, an idea sprouted in his head.

During his studies in the Jujutsu Kaisen World, he learned about Imaginary Vengeful Cursed Spirits, one of the three classifications of cursed spirits.

Imaginary Vengeful Cursed Spirits are born from the ċumulative fear of the masses. To be more specific, entities from myths and stories (and perhaps any work of fiction) become realized if many people share a fear towards that entity, that image of fear.

Yukio was curious if he could create his own image of fear and whether or not his cursed technique could manifest an imaginary vengeful cursed spirit if the conditions were met.

Going against his previous decision, Yukio planned on continuing his sleep paralysis tricks but to a lesser extent. At most, all he needed to do was have a clone watch them while they were asleep and restrain them from moving for a certain period of time.

Hopefully, by the time he left Sunagakure, he would have constructed and defeated a dungeon that housed an imaginary vengeful cursed spirit.

All he would need to do is to persuade them into making terrible decisions while making sure that they would continue playing.

He looked up at the sky and asked himself, "What was I supposed to be doing? Right, I need more wood." And he flickered away.

=====

At the same time, Yukio was sitting at his handmade stall. He was currently selling the figurines that he wasn't able to sell the day before.

He had sent a shadow clone to steal some wood so that he could carve more goods to sell. He was also waiting for Chiyo but he doubted that she would come anyway.

'Isn't she important? Would she even have free time? Even then, would Sasori even agree to come?'

After two hours, the rest of his stock was sold. When the line of disappointed customers dispersed, an elderly voice called out to him, "Already packing up, Yukio? I didn't think I would be late again."

Chiyo came just like she said she would. Yukio looked behind her but didn't see anybody else. She probably couldn't get Sasori to come with her.

"Hello, Miss Chiyo. I'm sorry but I don't have any more left. I need to collect more wood, so it might take me a month or two for us to meet again."

"I have prepared enough supplies for this trip which was cheaper than buying wood directly or posting a mission for it. I don't need to waste money on something that I can get myself.

Chiyo sighed at his answer, "You're not wrong. The price of wood has increased since the war started... Be safe, Yukio. Travel with caution."

"Don't worry, I'll take care of myself. Thank you for worrying."

=====

In the Kazekage's Office, the Third Kazekage was working on his paperwork when someone knocked on the door.

"Come in."

The door opened and a man entered the office. When the Third Kazekage saw him, he put down his papers.

"Greetings Lord Kazekage."

"Hello, Asahi. What brings you here?"

"Bad news? Continue."

"Nearly half of the messenger birds being raised by the Suna Aviary have been killed."

"Half of them? Killed? Are they sure? Messenger birds take a while to be trained."

"Yes, it is believed that something had entered the aviary and hunted down the birds. There's traces of blood and stray feathers. The aviary is requesting ȧssistance in hunting the ȧssailant or relocating the aviary to somewhere else."

The Third Kazekage closed his eyes for several seconds and gave out an order, "We're already low on funds to relocate the aviary. Let's see if the genins could look for it, post it as a rank-d mission. Is there anything else?"

"Understood, Lord Kazekage. And I'm not sure whether or not you need to know."

"Since you brought it up, just tell me."

"Last night, the brother of a shinobi killed themselves."

"That is unfortunate, but is that all?"

"He was under a genjutsu?"

"The shinobi who have investigated are not sure. It did sound like the brother was under a genjutsu, but there were no traces of chakra whatsoever. Either the chakra had simply dissipated quickly or that there wasn't any chakra in the first place."

The Third Kazekage squinted his eyes, "Is it somehow the One-Tail's doings? Or is it a ploy from one of our enemies? Asahi, try to increase security in the area that crime took place."

"Understood.. I will be taking my leave, Lord Kazekage."
