Chapter 31: Getting Drunk

The old man brought them to a small cubicle. The pure wood decor made it look like an island. Kimberly couldn’t help but exclaim, “This place is amazing.”

“This is a private restaurant. It usually only serves regular customers.” James poured a cup of tea and pushed it over. He said apologetically, “But I’m afraid I can’t order any dishes. The menu here depends on the ingredients that are caught every day.”

“I still have to thank you. If you hadn’t brought me here, I’m afraid I would never have known that there was such a romantic private restaurant.” Kimberly half-jokingly asked, “What do you want to drink to celebrate later?”

“Do you want to try the signature warm yellow rice wine? Seafood is cold in nature, so the yellow rice wine is good for warming up.”

“Of course, this is my first time coming into contact with this wine.”

While they were chatting, the dishes were served one after another, and the signature yellow rice wine was also served for the two of them.

“It feels so historical. Is it really soil? Fermented underground?” Kimberly sounded like she was going out to the world for the first time. She fiddled with the small bottle of yellow rice wine and sighed. “It tastes very historical. It must be very expensive.”

She pursed her lips and the warm wine flowed down her throat. Unlike the fiery taste of white wine, this wine seemed to be more mellow and gentle, like a gentle beauty smiling quietly.

Kimberly unconsciously drank two more mouthfuls. When she was not paying attention, her face had become redder and her eyes had gradually become blurred.

“Oh…” She felt that she was still very clear-headed, but for some reason, she became more and more audacious. She no longer thought about what she was going to say. She pointed at James, who was eating quietly across from her, and giggled. “Hahahaha, you have quite a few heads.”

James raised his head in surprise and realized that she had already finished a whole jar of wine without him noticing. The wine glass was placed casually on the tea tray at the side.

Oh no…

James recalled that he seemed to have forgotten to remind her that although this wine was considered mild, it revealed a slower and stronger effect at the end. Even he would feel tipsy if he drank too much.

“Oh no, let her sleep for a while.” James looked at the weak and spineless woman with a headache. This was the first time he realized how fluid a woman could be. He carefully tried to lift her up with his back, however, he repeatedly failed because of her lack of cooperation.

“What are you doing? It’s so uncomfortable.” Kimberly twisted and turned in his arms, trying to break free. She even hit his chest with her fist, she said softly and fiercely, “Meanie!”

Kimberly’s strength was more like a spoiled child to him. Her punch made James look at her with a deeper gaze. He turned his face and couldn’t help but choke twice. It took him a long time to calm down.

“I really owe you…” He sighed helplessly as he squatted down and carried her on his back.

“Ugh…” The dazed Kimberly, who was carried on his back, was restless. She mumbled, “Keith is a horrible person…he lied to me…”

“Yes, he has already been punished.”

“No… he… he still bullied me… he also bullied my parents…”

“Then let him suffer a little more.”

“Sob, sob, sob…” As she spoke, Kimberly inadvertently shed tears. She sobbed and complained, “My life is so miserable…I don’t have money…I have nothing…I have nothing…”

James’s heart was torn. He thought about the pampered woman who had probably been shocked by this incident. After all, if he had come a little later, she might have been bitten by a snake. Thinking about how Kimberly would also be in the hospital, he could not suppress the violence in his heart. He wanted nothing more than to personally teach Keith and those behind-the-scenes thugs a lesson.

Forget it. He would leave them for his woman to take revenge. “This was all that was left of their value,” James thought indifferently.

In the dark alley, there were only a few flickering streetlights illuminating the passers-by. On both sides of the street, people had already turned off their lights and fallen into sweet dreams. James carried the sleeping Kimberly on his back as he walked past one house after another, it was not until he came to the small courtyard at the end of the alley, which looked a little dilapidated.

“I can only let her suffer for one night,” James said with a headache. “She had to blame herself for getting drunk before she even told me where her home was.”

The courtyard looked old. A thick and sturdy parasol tree on-site had witnessed how the small courtyard went from flourishing to declining, from bustling with noise to being ignored.

It was also the first time James returned to this place after he had grown up. Everywhere was familiar to him, but it was completely different from his memories.
