My Intergalactic Soulmate

Chapter 30:Cat Vs Dog

Natalia eyed Vorian and mouthed, "That's pretty badass?" She pointed her brows to the other side of the room and gestured Vorian to follow her.

Vorian obliged and followed Natalia. Once they were far enough from Alexis, Natalia crossed her arms and tried to look intimidating even though she looked tiny compared to Vorian who was towering in front of Natalia. Then she whispered to Vorian, "What do you think you are doing Mr. Zadoc?"

Vorian tilted his head a little as he was confused by this question. "What did I do?" he whispered back innocently.

"How can you be so insensitive? Can't you see Lexi is shaken to her core? She just found out that she is not who she thought she was. And you dared to smile in front of her. Are you that excited?" Natalia tried to put some sense inside Vorian's inconsiderate head.

Vorian hung his head for not being able to contain his excitement in front of Alexis. "Yeah, I'm sorry I got a little carried away and didn't think about what she might be going through right now." Then he was thrilled all over again. "But I just found out that my girlfriend can fly. How cool is that? And aren't you excited as well? I bet you are."

Natalia didn't want to accept it but at the same time she also wanted to push Alexis from the rooftop to see her flying with her own eyes. She scratched her head with some hesitation and said, "I mean I am a little excited." Then she looked at Vorian sternly, "But at least I didn't dance in front of Alexis when she was looking all gloomy."

Vorian scoffed and spoke from between his teeth, "Don't try to stretch it. I didn't dance, alright."

Natalia teased him by mimicking what he said.

Alexis was hearing both of them now that they were starting to argue in loud voice. They had completely forgotten that Alexis was sitting in the same room. "Guys, I can hear everything. Will you please stop arguing with each other?"

Natalia quickly smiled and turned to face Alexis. "What? Who said we are arguing?"

Vorian also quickly added to what Natalia said, "Yeah, we are not arguing. We were just presenting our thoughts, which… are different."

Natalia turned her head towards Vorian and rolled her disapproving eyes.

"Calm down both of you. Stop fighting and help me figure ME out." Alexis tried to clear out the steam in the room. She got up from the cold floor and patted her uniform. "Nat, you said that you found my bag in P-97 Street right?"

Both Natalia and Vorian walked over to Alexis. Natalia was now in a serious mode, "Yeah, are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

Alexis's pupils dilated as she said, "Mhmm… it had something to do with me."

Vorian was standing beside the girls trying to understand what they were saying. But he was confused when he listened to their conversation, "Wait, do Earthlings have telepathic power?"

Both Alexis and Natalia burst into laughter when they heard Vorian. Natalia looked at Vorian and shook her head saying, "Vorian, I didn't want to say this but you do sound a lot like an alien."

Vorian asked again to re-confirm, not understanding what was going on, "So, it is not an Earth-thing?"

Natalia tried to enlighten the alien boyfriend of her best friend, "It is not an 'Earth-thing' Mr. Zadoc. It is a best friend thing, a connection thing. I'm sorry! but my connection with Alexis is far stronger than yours."

Vorian made a sarcastic comment, "Where did that come from? Are you jealous of me or something, Miss best friend?"

Natalia scoffed and assumed her intimidating posture again, "Pff… jealous? Of you?"

Alexis was tired and irritated of the two of them fighting over and over again. And she was already frustrated enough that she still had so many things which she did not know about herself. She could not control her emotions any longer and she shouted on top her lungs, "Stop fighting like cats and dogs." She sounded so aggressive that Natalia jumped with fear. And Vorian kept on staring at Alexis with his mouth wide open.

Alexis's emerald eyes were now glowing like green balls of fire. Her whole body was lit in azure fire. Her dark ginger hair was floating aggressively behind her. She looked fearsome and at the same time also looked captivating.

Natalia's lips started to tremble and a whisper slipped her mouth, "Alexis. You are scaring me."

Something clicked in Alexis's mind and she felt like she came out of some kind of hypnosis. Then she exhaled slowly and while she did that she slowly started to turn back to normal. "I just changed, didn't I?" This time Alexis did not forget anything but she felt as if her body had taken total control over her mind.

Natalia said with an exaggerated nod, "You did. And I have to speak the truth, if I was alone with you right now, I would have run away immediately."

Alexis was very sad. "I'm sorry." She did not know what she would have done next if she had not snapped out of it. Would she have hurt her best friend and boyfriend? Was she turning into a monster? She had so many questions but did not have a single clue.

Vorian noticed how the expression on Alexis's face had changed and he could tell that she was feeling guilty. He wanted to divert her mind from what just happened. "Alexis, I have a theory regarding you. You said that your father is not from Earth right?"

Alexis nodded her head and waited for Vorian to say some more about his theory. Natalia was also all ears since she knew his intelligence level was higher than theirs.

"I have not yet come across a planet where its inhabitants have similar powers to yours. But it does not mean that they don't exist. I just might not have read about them yet. It might be possible that your father had powers similar to yours. And he passed down his genes to you. It means your abilities were there inside of you, but they were dormant. And I assume that some kind of incident forced you to activate your powers. That makes sense right?" Vorian was standing tall, proud with his own hypothesis.

"Yes, that was what we were talking about earlier. The news channels suggested that they saw the flying crea…" Natalia bit her tongue and corrected herself instantly "that they saw Alexis starting her flight from P-97 Street. And there is one particular spot on that street where everything within a 10 meter radius is damaged - road, walls, trees, and all. I think something happened to Alexis there."

Alexis agreed to her friend, "Yes, something must have happened to me there. And that something must have been something terrible." Her face turned pale and her body was getting cold, "I see these fleeting images sometime, it felt like I was dying. I can still feel the pain deep down."

Once again, Vorian forgot that only his virtual self was present in that room and he tried to hug Alexis who was looking scared. He exhaled sharply in disappointment when his hand passed through Alexis. Then he put a smile on his face and said, "Everything will be alright Alexis. They say that whatever happens, happens for good. I'm not saying that you deserved terrible things to happen to you, but look at it this way, that made you stronger. And if push comes to shove, you'll even be able to defend yourself without getting hurt like the last time."

This was the first time Natalia agreed with what Vorian's said. She smiled and thought, "I'm glad that he can also say such sensible things without sounding stupid like he always does."

"You don't think that I'm a bad person right?" Alexis looked at Vorian with doubt in her eyes. She was afraid that now that Vorian saw her change, he would not like her anymore.

Vorian smiled and then said in a reassuring and deep voice, "No, why would I even think that. I think you are really cool." Vorian thought for a while and then added, "Yeah definitely cooler than every other girls that I've ever met before."

Natalia hung her head down and thought, "And then it all went down the drain." She gave a cold piercing look to Vorian and then pretended to slit her throat with her thumb.

Vorian was surprised to get this reaction from Natalia. He shrugged his shoulders and mouthed, "What?" All he got as answer was Natalia shaking her head in discontentment.

Alexis was once again lost in her own thoughts. The more she tried to understand what was happening to her, the more lost she felt.

Natalia understood that they needed to give some space to Alexis for now. She was going through an identity crisis. It must have been hard for her. So she whispered to Vorian, "Hey! Don't you have some places to go? Like academy or wherever it is that you go in the morning in your planet?"

Vorian looked at his watch and realized that he had an early meeting that he had to attend to. Then he exclaimed, "Holy light! It's already 9 AM. I have to go to the Fed. I'll talk to you later Alexis. Bye."

Alexis mustered up a smile and replied, "Bye."

"You don't have to teach me what to do. Bye."

Vorian vanished from the room. Now that Natalia was alone with Alexis, her heart beat started to get a little faster.
