༺ My House Has Become a Filming Set! – 6 ༻

Returning from his walk, Yeonwoo handed the portable camera he had received from Han Taegu back to the staff.

When he got home, Kang Do-jun was already preparing a meal.

  “You’re back? Let’s eat.”

“Oh, I could have prepared it.”

“I made kimchi fried rice because there was kimchi and ham in the fridge. Is that okay?”

  “Yes, I love it.”

Even though it had only been a day since Yeonwoo had arrived, Kang Do-jun was living like he owned the place, and Yeonwoo was unconsciously taking things for granted. The two got along quite well.

“Oh right, hyung. Here. Ah, one of them broke.”

Yeonwoo rummaged through the pocket of his windbreaker, pulled out four eggs, and handed them to Do-jun.

  “Why the eggs?”

“I secretly took them from Granny Kyungyi’s chicken coop.”

It seemed like it was a routine in this countryside neighborhood to give and take.

Yeonwoo made a disgusted face as his hand felt sticky due to the broken egg in his pocket. Kang Do-jun ruffled his hair and spoke.

“I’ll fry them, so go wash your hands. And take off your windbreaker and give it to me.”

  “The windbreaker?”

“Yes, I’m running the washing machine now. I’ll wash that too.”

“The washing machine? Then, I’ll hang the clothes later.”

Saying that, Yeonwoo took off his windbreaker, tossed it aside, and went to wash his hands.

After washing his hands thoroughly with cold water and coming to the living room, Kang Do-jun was already seated with the meal prepared, waiting for Yeonwoo.

“You should have started without me, you must have been waiting?”

  “We should eat together.”

  “Thank you.”

Yeonwoo quickly took his seat and picked up his spoon. Kang Do-jun stared at him for a moment before asking,

“Why are your hands so red?”

“I washed them with cold water.”

  “There’s warm water, you know.”

“Well… It’s not like I’ll freeze to death by washing with cold water.”

At Yeonwoo’s foolish remark, Kang Do-jun silently turned up the temperature on the boiler. After eating the kimchi fried rice, Yeonwoo sucked in his breath, seemingly finding it a bit spicy.

  “Do you want some water?”

  “Thank you.”

While moving naturally to the kitchen to fetch water, Do-jun found himself surprisingly puzzled. He realized that he had been taking care of Yeonwoo without even noticing.

He wondered who the real owner of the house was… It felt like their roles had been reversed. As he handed over the water and cup, Yeonwoo thanked him once again.

  “Thank you.”

Whether it was his habit or something else, the steady accumulation of thank yous made serving him surprisingly pleasant.

After gulping down the water, Yeonwoo glanced at Kang Do-jun and made a comment.

“You know, now that I think about it, I think I’ve heard your name in the army.”

  “In the army?”

“Yes, you were a stalker, right?”

  “…What?”

Kang Do-jun, who was holding a spoon, paused and looked at Yeonwoo. Realizing his words could be misunderstood, Yeonwoo hastily added to his comment.

“Ah, no, I’m sorry. I meant your role in the drama.”

  “Ah, ‘Your Shadow’.”

“That’s right. My peers really enjoyed watching it.”

‘Your Shadow’ was a crime thriller drama featuring Kang Do-jun. In the show, he played a criminal who fell in love with the female lead, stalked her, and brutally killed those around her.

It was a quite popular drama. Despite his crazy antics in the show, the public opinion was largely that his good looks could forgive it all.

“I don’t really enjoy dramas so I didn’t watch it much, but I did think the actor was handsome at that time. But to think that it was you. This is quite a connection.”

  “Indeed.”

“But your kimchi fried rice is really delicious.”

  “Really?”

“Yes, it’s a little spicy but just right.”

Yeonwoo chattered nonstop, whether he was swallowing his food through his mouth or his nose. Kang Do-jun responded with nods and murmurs. There was never a dull moment, as Yeonwoo kept talking even when Do-jun remained silent.

  “What are you doing today?”

  “Farming.”

  “Farming?”

Yeonwoo was taken aback and spoke in a surprisingly loud voice, as if he were using a loudspeaker.

  “Yes.”

It was one of the schedules that PD Han Taegu had planned in advance.

“Wow, that must be really hard.”

Yeonwoo, who had helped Grandpa Jongsu with farming the previous year, expressed sympathy for Kang Do-jun.

“I’ll come to play with the newly hatched chicks later.”

“What are you talking about? You’re doing it too.”

  “…Me?”

At Kang Do-jun’s obvious response, Yeonwoo blinked his eyes. Then, with a confused expression, he asked again.

  “Me? Why?”

What didn’t make sense was, in fact, to Kang Do-jun.

“Didn’t you hear from the PD?”

  “What…did he say?”

Yeonwoo’s head slowly turned and stopped at Han Taegu, who was sitting in front of him, peering into the camera. His gaze was icy.

“Ah…I’m sorry, Yeonwoo. I should have told you beforehand.”

Finally, Han Taegu gestured to the crew to pause for a moment and called Yeonwoo outside.

  “What is it?”

Yeonwoo, who had been dragged outside, glared at Han Taegu with a frown.

Again. Han Taegu was the cause of his troubles. The talk of farming was absurd and out of place.

“No matter what, I don’t like it. I won’t do it.”

“Yeonwoo, don’t say that and think about it for a moment. The chemistry between Do-jun and you is good. We will pay you more for your appearance….”

  “Appearance fee?”

Han Taegu, reading a hint of curiosity in Yeonwoo’s eyes, tried to persuade him.

“Of course! If your screen time increases, we should give you a larger appearance fee!”

‘If the screen time increases… the appearance fee…’

“Hyung, for farming, a hat and sunscreen are essential.”

  “Uh-huh.”

“You should at least wear a straw hat to feel better, would you like to use mine?”

  “It’s okay.”

Kang Do-jun spoke with rounded eyes. Yeonwoo glared at him, grumbling.

“I’m here to help you because I think it would be hard for you to farm alone.”

Kang Do-jun simply nodded, having quickly figured out that Yeonwoo’s purpose was the appearance fee.

The first day ended unexpectedly as he gathered his senses. However, no matter how healing the variety show was, it was still a variety show, and Kang Do-jun didn’t feel confident to be funny on his own.

But with Yeonwoo babbling beside him, he didn’t have to talk much and it was comfortable, and it was two birds with one stone since he also helped with farming.

It was a proposal that was nothing but beneficial for Kang Do-jun.

“You get it, right? I’ve got other things to do, but especially….”

  “Yeonwoo.”

  “Yes?”

Yeonwoo, who had finished his preparations, flinched and asked again as he came out after opening the front door for the last time. Although it was a simple call, his mind blanked when he heard his name.

Kang Do-jun pointed to the front door.

  “You should lock the door.”

  “Oh….”

Without realizing it, he rushed around. He definitely remembered that Kang Do-jun gave him the keys in the morning, but he had completely forgotten where he left them.

  “Front pocket of your pants.”

As Kang Do-jun said, the key was in the front pocket of his pants. As Yeonwoo locked the front door with a glance at him, he came to his senses.

‘Why am I… locking the door?’

Strange emotions rose up. As if to block such thoughts, Kang Do-jun spoke to Yeonwoo, who had hesitated.

  “Is it all locked?”

  “Uh-huh, yes.”

  “Let’s go.”

Well, whatever. Yeonwoo simply thought as he pulled his straw hat down deep and followed Kang Do-jun.

“Hyung, do you know how to operate a tractor?”

  “No, do you?”

  “Of course.”

Yeonwoo shrugged as he answered. Upon close inspection, he seemed a bit boastful. But it was not annoying, it was a very cute boast.

Kang Do-jun decided to play along a bit.

“At this time, you probably have to do the field leveling work….”

  “Field leveling?”

“Yes, it’s called the flattening process.”

“You don’t seem to lack any knowledge.”

At his praise, the corners of Yeonwoo’s mouth rose slightly.

“Well, since it’s your first time, I’ll teach you by your side.”

Kang Do-jun had figured out how to handle Yeonwoo in just two days of being in the countryside.

Having a steady conversation, they arrived at their destination before they knew it. An elderly man was sitting on a tractor, waiting for the filming crew.

“Hyung, this is Grandpa Jongsu who farms here.”

  “Hello.”

“Yes. But why are you here? To sightsee? You, boy, go away without disturbing the Seoul folks at work!”

  “I’m here to work too!”

Yeonwoo raised his voice in protest. Han Taegu explained to Grandpa Jongsu and took Yeonwoo’s side.

  “What? You’re going to farm?”

Grandpa Jongsu looked at Yeonwoo with wide-open eyes.

“Why not? If I want to do it, I can do it.”

At Yeonwoo’s confident words, Grandpa Jongsu turned to Kang Do-jun and firmly warned him.

“This one here is a slippery one, always looking for an escape. Keep a close eye on him.”

“Ah, what do you mean escape? You’re talking nonsense again.”

Yeonwoo’s face disappeared into his straw hat. He was at a loss for what to do out of embarrassment.

“Then, young man, I’ll teach you how to start the tractor. Follow me.”

  “Yes.”

Kang Do-jun swallowed a laugh as he looked at Yeonwoo and followed Grandpa Jongsu.

“Even if that lad is lazy, he’s smart. So if you don’t know something, you can ask him. Really, just as long as he doesn’t run away.”

  “Did something happen before?”

“Well, it was that brat over there…”

Last year, Yeonwoo had, again, caught some silly idea somewhere and asked Grandpa Jongsu to spare a small spot in his field because he wanted to cultivate corn.

He had promised to help with the farm work in exchange for a small space.

‘As it turns out, corn was originally for consumption!’

‘You brat! Where did you go! Aren’t you coming back!?’

Of course, this plan ended with Yeonwoo running away in the middle of helping with the farm work.

“So it was. Therefore, you should also keep a close eye on him.”

Kang Do-jun couldn’t hold back his laughter at the predictable antics of Yeonwoo.

  “What? What’s so funny?”

  “Ah, pfft…, Ahem. Sorry.”

The more he knew, the more spirited and hilarious the kid was. It was amazing how PD Han Taegu managed to find and cast this gem of a boy, Yeonwoo.

At some point, Kang Do-jun’s gaze was naturally seeking Yeonwoo. And sure enough, he was planning some kind of outrageous act again.

While Kang Do-jun was learning how to start the tractor, Yeonwoo was working hard to create evidence.

This time, he needed comparison photos of before and after farming to prove to Grandpa Jongsu that he had helped with the farming and not run away.

Yeonwoo fumbled in his pocket, thought of his phone left at home, and called over a staff member.

  “Sister.”

The staff member was surprised and responded.

  “…Me?”

  “Yes.”

Usually, they say ‘Excuse me’… but those innocent eyes belonging to a cute face were unhesitatingly approaching, calling her ‘Sister’.

“You know, the portable camera I returned this morning.”

  “Oh, the self-cam?”

“Yes. Can I borrow that for a moment?”

  “Of course. Just a moment.”

The staff member immediately turned on the camera, switched it to recording mode, and handed it over to him. Upon receiving the camera, Yeonwoo fiddled with it a few times, seemingly dissatisfied, and called the staff member again.

“Sister, does this have any other functions?”

“Do you mean other than the recording mode?”

“Yes, I left my phone at home, so I wanted to take some pictures with this. Can’t I?”

Seeing that the staff member did not respond, Yeonwoo wondered if she had not understood him and explained it again himself.

  “Pictures. Selfies.”

In his black eyes, there was nothing but pure innocence, nothing more, nothing less. After examining the camera by himself, he added another question.

“Sister, does this have a Bluetooth function by any chance? I heard that all cameras these days have it. I want to transfer the photos directly to my phone after taking them.”

This was the first time in her entire career that the staff member had encountered someone who wanted to use a broadcasting camera for personal photos.
