The next day.

Because it was Saturday and she had been busy running around for a few days, Ruan Zhiyin slept in until it was almost ten o’clock before she woke up.

She blinked her eyes sleepily. The sunlight streamed through the bedroom window from between the clouds in the sky. It was warm and bright, and it brought a smile to her lips.

After washing up, Ruan Zhiyin changed into a set of exercise clothes and went to the gym room set up on the terrace.

When she was abroad and busy with her studies, she was surrounded by many excellent students. Ruan Zhiyin would sometimes feel a lot of pressure and stress.

It was one of her roommates who could not stand her putting her head down and only studying who started to drag her to the gym. She said that exercise was good for dopamine and it would help her feel better and improve her efficiency.

After Ruan Zhiyin tried it for some time, she was able to feel the benefits and she began to exercise regularly.

After finishing a three-kilometer jog, she turned off the treadmill and picked up the towel hanging by her side to wipe the sweat off her forehead. She also picked up a bottle of water from the cabinet.

That was when she noticed that there was one less bottle in the rows of bottles.

Ruan Zhiyin froze.

A minute later, she walked downstairs and saw the man wearing some loose sports clothes lazily sitting on the sofa while he focused on his laptop.

Ruan Zhiyin’s eyes opened a little wide, and she asked in surprise. “You’re back so early?”

Before he went on his business trip, Cheng Yuelin had clearly said he would only be back on Sunday night.

Cheng Yuelin glanced at her and his thin lips twitched. His tone was lazy. “When I came back last night, I knocked on your door. No response.”

There was actually still some work left to do, but he had left Bai Bo there. He had flown back by himself.

Originally, he had hoped that she would notice his absence and feel a little bit uncomfortable. But now, with her glowing appearance, it appeared that she was quite comfortable.

Cheng Yuelin’s heart was a bit complicated. It seemed that the only person who had missed the other person while they were apart was just him.

Hearing that he had come back last night, Ruan Zhiyin paused and thought for a moment.

Thinking back for a moment, when he knocked, she might have been taking a bath. She had also brought her tablet in to listen to the news, so she might not have heard.

But for some inexplicable reason, she felt that there was something that she could not quite catch. It happened too quickly that she soon forgot.

“Did you eat breakfast yet? There is still a sandwich in the fridge. I can go heat it up for you?”

Cheng Yuelin liked to eat a sandwich in the morning. She did not know if it was because it was tasty or if he liked that he could bring it with him and it was convenient.

The sandwich in the fridge was because Ruan Zhiyin accidentally made extra. It was only when she finished making it did she remember that Cheng Yuelin was not at home.

Cheng Yuelin was silent and shook his head. “No need, I do not have to work today. I can eat with you.”

The kitchen still had the congee that Ruan Zhiyin had made the night before. Cheng Yuelin stood up and filled up two bowls. When he returned to the kitchen, he placed one in front of Ruan Zhiyin.

It was almost noon, so they did not eat much. The two people ate a bit to pad their stomachs.

The dining room was quiet and no one spoke.

But Ruan Zhiyin was used to eating with him like this and the atmosphere was not awkward.

After Cheng Yuelin finished his congee, he placed down his spoon.

He paused for a moment before he looked at her and finally opened his mouth. “Ruan Yingying, when I am not here, you seem quite comfortable.”

Ruan Zhiyin felt that she heard some sort of hidden meaning in his words. She looked up at the man for a moment.

After thinking for a moment, she shook her head and her lips lifted in a gentle smile. “That’s not true, because you suddenly went on a trip, It was… a bit strange.”

It was said that a person could build a new habit in 21 days and she had lived with Cheng Yuelin for almost two months.

Probably because they had been living together for some time now, she would often notice Cheng Yuelin missing when she did a lot of things.

“Really?”

The man lifted a brow as though he did not believe her.

Ruan Zhiyin gave a light hmm in response. “Truly.”

“It looks like… I have not been doing these dishes in vain.” Cheng Yuelin smiled lightly and reached out a hand to pick up Ruan Zhiyin’s bowl and stacked it with his.

However, it seemed as though he had thought of something. He was in no hurry to leave and leisurely leaned back with his long, slender hands resting on the table.

After thinking for a moment, the man casually opened his mouth and spoke, “Ruan Yingying, how do you think I have been doing as your husband during this time?”

Ruan Zhiyin did not expect him to suddenly ask for her to evaluate him. She pondered for a moment and nodded. “You have been doing well. You have fulfilled all of your responsibilities.”

In front of outsiders, Cheng Yuelin would protect her. As for when they were at home, he would often nitpick over trivial matters, but it did not make her think it was unbearable.

Compared to her expectations, Cheng Yuelin’s performance during this time was indeed very dutiful and responsible.

But as soon as she said that, she saw Cheng Yuelin’s dark eyes staring at her. His eyes had an indescribable emotion in them, and she felt that something was not quite right.

Immediately after, she received some strange advice from him—

“So Ruan Yingying, even if it is a fake marriage, I will still play the part of a good husband. Since you are taking advantage of me, I would hope that you can play the role of a good wife. Do not cheat on me.”

“Qin Jue’s matters I will not bother you about. But that Zhou Hongfei or Wang Hongfei, you best…”

“Restrain yourself a little. Okay?”

In the man’s lazy voice, a strong suggestive undertone shrouded it.

After speaking, he smiled and fixed his shirt before he slowly stood up and picked up the two bowls.

Ruan Zhiyin suddenly looked up and met Cheng Yuelin’s smiling eyes. She had finally realized why she had felt something was off when he said that he had returned last night.

She struggled to take a deep, slow breath, but she also felt a headache. She had to install a soundproof barrier between their rooms. Right away. Immediately.
