“Look at the PowerPoint. Today, we’ll be focusing on….”

Today’s lesson was related to workplace terms, which had many mini exercises meant for students to understand what phrases to use for different occasions.

“We’ll do groups of two. For five minutes, ask each other questions according to the sentence structure I just mentioned. For example, your family’s occupation….”

The sentence structure Yan Chuan just mentioned was for asking about people’s occupation.

Lu Yuanyuan held a pen in one hand and moved her eyes from the PowerPoint to the person next to her.

Su Lin was wearing a mask. Probably because he was feeling unwell, his eyes were not very expressive. They were half-lidded, giving a very sleepy feel to him.

But, to be honest, even if good-looking people only showed a small portion of their face, you could tell at a glance that they were good-looking.

The good-looking person suddenly looked at her and spoke, “Want to have a conversation?”

  “…… Mhm.”

“What… are your family members’ occupations?”

  Family members….

Lu Yuanyuan was in thought for a moment.

Actually, if she really thought about it, her family members were probably her grandparents.

“…… My grandfather is a traditional medicine doctor,” She casually flipped through the material, “But it doesn’t seem to have this profession….”

“What kind of traditional medicine?” He suddenly asked.

Lu Yuanyuan was still lost in thought, “…… Hmm?”

Su Lin explained, “If he works in a hospital, then he could be considered a doctor.”

“Nope,” She shook her head, “My grandfather was doing it on his own before. Now that he’s older, he works out of home. Patients have to be introduced by acquaintances before he gives treatment.”

Su Lin originally didn’t think too much about her words.

Suddenly, he accurately caught a few words.

  Traditional medicine. At home. Acquaintances.

  And now, he was sick.

  Sicknesses…. had to be treated.

His mood fluctuated, and he could hear his heartbeat thumping. He lifted a hand to press on his temples, locking eyes with her, “You remember saying before that we were close.”

The little girl nodded her head blankly, “…… Mhm.”

  “So…. we’re kind of acquaintances.”

  “……”

“Then can I go to your grandfather to get treatment?”

  “……”

Go to her grandfather… to get treatment?

Lu Yuanyuan widened her eyes. For a moment, she didn’t know how to reply to him. After all, she had never brought a classmate home before.

She said tentatively: “Senior, are you…. especially sick? If it’s a cold, it’s actually faster to take Western medicine….”

“It’s not a simple cold.” Su Lin looked straight at her, “My head especially hurts.”

  He used the word “especially”.

This wording, with his exposed bloodshot eyes and the faint dark circles under his eyes, was extra convincing.

Lu Yuanyuan bit her lip and began to waver.

He then said, “If it’s inconvenient, then that’s alri-“

Hearing his words, she blurted out, “Convenient. I’ll talk to my grandfather after class. Later on, tell me when you don’t have class, senior.”

  “…… Okay.”

During their conversation, the five minutes given by Yan Chuan had passed. When he called time, Su Lin also turned his head to look at the podium in front.

With his eyes slightly squinted, the corners of his lips hooking up under his mask.

Taking advantage of their weakness…. turned out to be true.

  ***

Because their class schedules were too different during the week, the two finally settled on Saturday. On Friday evening, Lu Yuanyuan stayed at school so it would be convenient to bring the patient “home” the next day.

After the half hour subway ride, when they reached the neighborhood, Lu Yuanyuan introduced while they walked, “Most of the people living in this neighborhood are older. Because it’s not noisy and the environment is also quite good, it’s very suitable for retirement….”

  “Mm.” He nodded his head.

Su Lin has never been to this area of S City before. This wasn’t considered in the city and like she said, the neighborhood was large and the community was without the noisiness and heavy traffic of the city—quiet and cozy.

It didn’t take long to get to the entrance of the building. He watched as Lu Yuanyuan opened the door then followed her into the elevator.

It was only after he exited the elevator that he belatedly became nervous.

  This….

  Seemed like….

  Like meeting the parents, right?

The door opened before he could think any further.

It seemed like only her grandfather was home. After greeting him, they entered and switched into slippers. Lu Yuanyuan went into a room while he was invited to the sofa.

Lu Yuanyuan’s grandfather had pure white hair and looked very kind. After taking his pulse for a few minutes, Old Zhongyi Lu began to ask him questions.

“I heard Yuanyuan say that your name was Su Lin?”

  “Mm.”

  “Does your throat hurt?”

  “……” He nodded.

  “Does your head hurt?”

  “……” Nodded again.

“How did you catch a cold?”

Su Lin told him the general course of events.

Then he saw a look of understanding cross the old man’s face in front of him, “You have a headache and a sore throat caused by the so-called external unhealthy wind invading your body causing the veins of your qi and blood to be obstructed.”

“……” If you don’t understand, just nod your head.

“How many days have you been in pain?”

  “Four days.”

Old Zhongyi Lu pondered for half a minute, pushed off his knees, and stood up, “You come with me.”

Su Lin followed him around a corner and arrived at a room.

Inside were three instruments he couldn’t name, and a somewhat sloped table that looked like it was used for people to recline on.

Old Zhongyi Lu took out a blanket from the cabinet on the side, spread it on the table, then patted it and turned his head to look at him, “You lie down on it.”

Su Lin didn’t know what this was for, but did as he was told.

“You play with your phone for a while and give me a moment.”

Remembering that just now, he had told Su Lin to call him “Grandpa” like Lu Yuanyuan did, Su Lin nodded: “Mm. Thank you, Grandpa.”

He smiled, turned around, and left the room.

After living so many years, Su Lin had gotten sick several times, but this was the first time he went to a traditional medicine doctor. He was a little curious and didn’t go on his phone, only surveying the room as he laid down.

Until the sound of footsteps arrived.

Old Zhongyi Lu came in while saying, “I’m going to prick your classmate on the spine point and the wind point. If I tell you the other points, you won’t understand….”

  ……Hm?

Su Lin turned his head in the direction of the door and saw Lu Yuanyuan and Old Zhongyi Lu entering together. He didn’t know what Old Zhongyi Lu was holding in his hand, but it reflected the sunlight coming in through the window, somewhat blinding his eyes.

When he drew closer, Su Lin could see it clearly.

  ……?!!!!

  His eyes instantly widened.

Perspiration seeped out of his palms and his heart began to beat violently.

Old Zhongyi Lu held a row of silver needles. He disinfected them with alcohol swabs while smiling at him, “In your case, drinking medicine will take too long. Pricking the acupuncture points at the back of your head will be most effective.”

“Turn over. Grandpa will give you acupuncture,” Old Zhongyi Lu said.

  Su Lin: “……………”
